anyway musically can you post #13 now
― let's get high off our own supply (The Brainwasher)
i would but i don't feel that we have discussed 808s and heartbreak enough
― lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:25 (seventeen years ago)
it's okay, we'll keep talking about it regardless of what you post
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:25 (seventeen years ago)
I'M AMAZINGYEAH IM ALL THATIF I AINT ON THE GRINDTHEN WHAT YOU CALL THAT
shit doesn't even have anything to do w/ the album but it's still so poignant imo
― big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:26 (seventeen years ago)
okay j0rdan I don't mean to antagonize you butttttt..... how is that 'poignant'? it's just a generic jeezy rhyme
― let's get high off our own supply (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:27 (seventeen years ago)
exactly
― big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

woops wrong "Amazing" but still so poignant
^i don't endorse this as a hot jeezy rhyme fwiw
btw maybe he is @ 13...
― big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
just getting my complaining out of the way now and we don't have to discuss it further, i'm really surprised of montreal did not place; i checked the other thread and counted 51.5 points on people prematurely posting their ballots alone, and seeing as the #50 album had only 80 points, i thought it would poke into the bottom fifth somewhere for sure
― some black dude (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:30 (seventeen years ago)
of montreal is #13
― let's get high off our own supply (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:31 (seventeen years ago)
anywaythey don't know you like I dothey'll never know you
The emotional manipulation in this song is breathtaking. More than half of this album is like a laundry list of reasons for no one to ever fuck Kanye again!
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:31 (seventeen years ago)
lord fuckin willin', but i can't see itxpost
― some black dude (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:32 (seventeen years ago)
I gave OM like 6 or 7 points, maybe that'll make the difference
― there's no antivote to (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:32 (seventeen years ago)
i'm really surprised of montreal did not place― k3vin k
― k3vin k
why u said this? i would put god money on skeletal lamping placing, maybe placing v. high. if i had money, i mean
― contenderizer, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:34 (seventeen years ago)
I'm happy to have been quoted re. 808s, I love it now more than I did a few months ago. It's indie-friendly electrodribble!
― Euler, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:36 (seventeen years ago)
and it is
― contenderizer, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:36 (seventeen years ago)
hmm, my indifference to fleet foxes strikes an almost perfect balance with my indifference to kanye. ok, not quite. at least kanye's on my ipod. until i need the space. i know this is a boring thing to say, but my interest in kanye has declined about 20 percent with every album. (still listen to college dropout some.)
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:37 (seventeen years ago)
It's indie-friendly electrodribble!
maybe this is part of the reason I don't like it that much? The beat on "Paranoid" is very clunky to me for some reason/
― i want to see you in your pantyhose (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:39 (seventeen years ago)
conversely, I like Kanye more with each subsequent album (tho if pressed I'd probably agree that Late Registration is his best)
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:39 (seventeen years ago)
lol i don't know, reactions were totally mixed. i gave it twenty points at leastof the two albums i positively loved and lived last year--OM and erykah--OM offered so many chances to be drawn in. i can see people liking it for an enormous amount of different reasons, which means they could have gotten a lot of 2-5 point votes. badu, on the other hand, i can't see having a point-per-vote of less than 14 or 15. it's one of those records where if you liked it, i can't imagine how you didnt totally immerse yourself in it and have it as one of your top three
xxxxxpost

so is no 13 more rap more r&b or more electrodribble?

(also poor "Pinocchio Story", what a load of balls)(although there was a moment where I thought it was on the verge of greatness until I realized he'd said "there is no GUCCI I could buy")
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
i never listened to it, thought it was okay on snl tho
― big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
what's weird about 808 is that's the technopop/electro/nuwave vibe is not uncommon in rap, but this sounds WAY more like straight indie electrodribble than any other rap/R&B record i've ever heard. which is, i think, what he was shooting for
― contenderizer, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:44 (seventeen years ago)
so is 'indie electrodribble' in the ilx canon to the point where i'm gonna have to read that thread?
― call all destroyer, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:45 (seventeen years ago)
no

First spin through, I'm hearing a lot of New Order, OMD and Cocteau Twins references. All very good stuff, and track 3 in particular with the girl's vocals is *killer*, that drum part, WOW. Love this album so far.
― stephen
one of the best albums of 08
thought id throw that down because it seems to be getting no love in the best of 08 threads. no album has captured the spirit and feel of the 80's like this in a long time.
― gman
Every time I think I'm totally over this album, I go back and put it on again and it's fucking awesome.

This is starting out promising but that album cover is begging me to punch it in the throat.
― Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:48 (seventeen years ago)
I tried listening to that M83 album but it sounded really 80s in a bad way
― i want to see you in your pantyhose (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:49 (seventeen years ago)
i need to go back to that one. there was a song io really liked like a year ago that i can't remember now
― Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:49 (seventeen years ago)
Some really nice tracks on this. Not as good as the previous one, IMO

it sounded nothing like the other stuff of theirs I'm familiar with like the first single from their last album and "Run Into Flowers" or whatever that song is called
― i want to see you in your pantyhose (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:50 (seventeen years ago)
Dan, the album's a lot better than its cover may suggest.
― ilxor, Friday, 13 February 2009 22:50 (seventeen years ago)
this is a great record, except whenever i listen to it, i don't like it much

didn't vote for it but support it - "we own the night" is my jam
― big fatass rick ross (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 22:50 (seventeen years ago)
I guess I am a hopeless obscurantist because I haven't heard a lot of these higher placing ones, I think I would like Santogold and hate Fleet Foxes. The Dream sounds too glossy for me, M83 never did much but maybe I shoudl reinvestigate.
Can't check out the videos b/c I am on a ridiculous slow 3rd world computer right now.

"Graveyard Girl"

Loved 'Kim & Jessie', the rest I could take or leave, but mostly leave. Will have to revisit it to see if it clicks this time.
