i thought they would be one of the surprises that didnt make it, maybe tvotr didnt make it then.

i dont see the appeal of fleet foxes or TVOTR myself

On a side note, the TVOTR album isn't bad by any means. It just didn't grab me the way the first EP/album did together. I've been disappointed by their last two albums -- some good individual songs, but not as fully gripping as their early work.

I was really mad about the Fleet Foxes SNL performance because, before then, I just pretended that they sounded like this:

i know i've told this story before but i saw FFs (heh) as an opening band before they were a thing and was really, really impressed. but the p4k/britisher freakout about them kinda turned me off and i avoided hearing the album. i should cop it off a friend or something.

My initial guess of TVOTR as the album that didn't make it still sticks, either that or Kanye. I have no real reason to justify these guesses.

I could see voting up the Sun Giant EP maybe, because it has "Mykonos" and that's a great song. But the Fleet Foxes LP itself is breezy xanax.

Fleet oxes are Paul Weller's favourite american band, as much as i did think his latest album was ok, he really has shite taste in modern bands

honestly i completely see their appeal (FF), it's just really the antithesis of what i'm looking for at this point in my music consuming life
tvotr i like but don't love; they're a good rock band who write good rocks songs imo, the bass especially at least conjures some kind of positive visceral rxn in me

You know, the track on 808s that was a surprising grower for me is "Amazing". There's something about the doomy stomp mixed in with that pre-chorus sweep that's just perfection.

That was the obvious standout on my first listen...

there was a marcello inspired backlash(because it was in everybodys lists) against the nick cave album so just maybe that wont make it

I liked the album a lot at first but like after 2 weeks I don't really feel any particular way about it. I still play "Amazing," "Coldest Winter," "Love Lockdown" & "Heartless"... thats about it.

Well the OBVIOUS 808s standout is "Love Lockdown" but everyone had heard that before the album came out. Other immediate highlights for me were "Say You Will", "Welcome To Heartbreak" and "Street Lights".

i think kanye will def make it, TVOTR will not. TVOTR is like, mind-bogglingly bland now

actually the more I think about it the more that album sucks besides the four songs I mentioned. I don't like "Paranoid" either which seems to be the big track to everyone else.

and i'm starting to think that a big issue with the F. Foxes is that they're great singers but pretty lousy musicians.

TVOTR's entire first EP is brilliant

like robocop conjures this crazy cog. dissonance in me like i hardly ever experience--the lyrics are just so bad and clumsy but i just love the song, esp the bridge

fleet foxes hate i assume is the fact theyre so hyped when theres so many better acts making that kind of music

The SONG "Young Liars" is for me their apex, although there are a few contenders on Cookie Mountain as well

the whole album is awesome front to back. the only one i skip is "bad news". in the past month i've been really stuck on "paranoid"->"robocop"->"streetlights"

i originally thought that the paranoid -> robocop transition was a weird point in the album but i love it now, how blindingly bright paranoid is transitioning straight into the drums of robocop which sound like something from a construction zone. then the robocop violins set a great mood for streetlights

Also, as per usual Kanye's delivery (in this case the bitter almost-snarl) transcends the triteness of what he's actually saying (srsly I think dude saved up all of his actual cleverness for "Gold Digger" and then blew his entire wad on the second verse).

(re: Fleet Foxes, had the entirety of "Mykonos" been like the last 2 minutes, I would have liked it a lot lot more.)

as someone who bitched about teh "misogyny" of 808s a while back, i would like to apologize to the world and say that the fuckheaded frankenstein good/badness is a big part of the appeal, and though i don't listen to it often, the good parts hold up real well.
