album of the decade i think
― goole
“Livin’ A Lie” most likely isn’t even my favourite song on The-Dream’s debut album ‘Love/Hate’, although that’s probably just a reflection of its absurd strength – how do you choose between the shiny R Kelly bounce of “Shawty Is Da Shit”, the flawless Prince revivalism of “Fast Car”, the bitter dirge “Nikki”, the apocalyptic “She Needs My Love”, the irresistible glide of “Playin’ in her Hair”, the sumptuous coital sludge of “Purple Kisses”, the sci-fi club joint “Ditch That”, the architectural magnificence of “Luv Songs” or the tearjerker ballad “Mama”???

Someone post a youtube, because searching "the dream" is useless if you don't know what song to look for.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:35 (seventeen years ago)
lol no seriously though I remember when I kept talking about The-Dream and everyone ignored me, and then everbody hated on it, so it's cool to see him place now and become a part of the ILM cannon so to speak

for anyone looking for it on spotify, search 'd:ream' instead of the dream. I dunno why.

This last five is beating the shit out of all that came before it and I'm not even that huge on Studio or MGMT.
― The Reverend (rev), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:42 (seventeen years ago)
ok I've listened to about 3 of these and I now officially don't get ILM

serious FFS-ing at that list of Jaymc's, hoping for surprises, fearing none
― there's no antivote to (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:45 (seventeen years ago)
Hopefully Bon Iver and Fleet Fuxers.
― The Reverend (rev), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:45 (seventeen years ago)
i would be surprised if no age and/or hot chip made it
― happy house of representatives (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:46 (seventeen years ago)

there's some good dream discussion on best song The-Dream Love/Hate and NE-YO v THE DREAM
― lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
I would be sad to see neither Jeezy or T.I. make it, even if I didn't really start to get the Jeezy album until after voting.
― The Reverend (rev), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:47 (seventeen years ago)
Are the people who like No Age even anything more than mildly pleased by them? It's not a shoo-in by any means methinks.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
The "apocalyptic" She Needs My Love is about as menacing as your grandma telling you to tie up your shoelaces, and about as exciting too
― there's no antivote to (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
In the Bon Iver vs. Fleet Foxes poll, the former won by only 7 votes (22-15), which makes it seems like if one makes the list, then the other does, too. But maybe Rev is right and neither does.
― Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:48 (seventeen years ago)
i've never heard of the dream. that song livin' a lie was pretty good though.
― call all destroyer, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:49 (seventeen years ago)
Of that list I hope The Bug is No2 and Portishead No1
― The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:49 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, damn, didn't see the Love/Hate poll.

― The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:51 (seventeen years ago)
jaymc, that wasn't an actual prediction, just wishful thinking. Also lol @ me not realizing there was an actual FF vs BI poll when I made this one: fleet foxes vs bon iver
― The Reverend (rev), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:53 (seventeen years ago)
i guess these 3 at least
which of these two won't make it:

a word, too, for the-dream's remixes, especially the way he recasts mariah's 'touch my body' as a wondrous space ballad drifting through the stars
and the way he magnifies the romance latent in the mundane details of shontelle's 't-shirt' by turning it into a duet set against a scene of snowy, crowded streets, the boy heading home to his girl
― lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
Apocalyptic doesn't have to mean menacing, LJ. My favorite The-Dream songs are "Falsetto" and "I Luv Your Girl," and a large part of what I like about them is how they use space. It's a subtly unsettling eeriness rather than anything in-your-face.
― Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Friday, 13 February 2009 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
ok, 2, i can't count/format
― whatever, Friday, 13 February 2009 20:54 (seventeen years ago)
still pretty sure jeezy will make it!
