Ned Raggett, Thursday, 2 May 2013 03:57 (thirteen years ago)

People seem to be pretty much into the panda bear track.

Moka, Thursday, 2 May 2013 06:20 (thirteen years ago)

So have any of you heard it? I thought we had some influential people posting in here, suddenly we're all unemployed or what?

Moka, Thursday, 2 May 2013 06:23 (thirteen years ago)

I've heard of it.

scintilla (seandalai), Thursday, 2 May 2013 09:32 (thirteen years ago)

Only got myself to blame really, but my six year old has been caught up in the excitement and has asked me to make him a DP helmet that he can wear to a street-dance display that he's doing. Not sure how I'm going to get papier-maché that shiny but uh ok boss.

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 2 May 2013 09:41 (thirteen years ago)

xp Nope, Kid A got 3/5 from Q and Select and a very lukewarm 7/10 from NME.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 09:50 (thirteen years ago)

I've heard RAM but couldn't say so earlier because of the embargo.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 09:51 (thirteen years ago)

Oh, and Melody Maker gave Kid A 1.5/5. I can't think of a consensus classic from the last decade that had worse reviews.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:03 (thirteen years ago)

7/10 for Kid A seems about right.

Matt DC, Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

NOT CONSENSUS CLASSIC -_-

melody maker were correct (for once)

of course, every other radiohead album should have probably received worse ratings

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

lex

mistah WRIGHT! WHAT you doin'? (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

In the big picture it's a consensus classic Lex, regardless of whether you'd like to push the whole band off a bridge. Personally I'd give it 7/10 too.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:36 (thirteen years ago)

it's a 6.041 if ever i've heard one

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 2 May 2013 10:59 (thirteen years ago)

This blog demonstrates the perils of writing about an album you haven't heard and making massive, inaccurate assumptions based solely on a list of people who appear on it.

"I do think we need to understand the new DP album as curating a history of EDM." No, we don't, because it isn't.

http://its-her-factory.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/more-on-daft-punk-canonizing-history-of.html

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 11:32 (thirteen years ago)

idk i dont agree with that post at all but i think theyre definitely canon-building here, just based on the way theyve talked about it. the same way theyve been doing since 'teachers' i guess

max, Thursday, 2 May 2013 11:47 (thirteen years ago)

If this is indeed an attempt at canon-making, it’s really interesting how people like Larry Levan are written out of the story.

Yeah, why the fuck didn't they collaborate with Larry Levan?

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 2 May 2013 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

lol

caek, Thursday, 2 May 2013 11:53 (thirteen years ago)

imo it's somewhat remarkable that daft punk have never collaborated with a female artist, esp in their field

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 2 May 2013 11:54 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know what kind of canon-building would include Paul Williams, whose presence is solely down to DP's teenage obsession with Phantom of the Paradise.

"We need to construct an EDM canon. Quick, get the guy who wrote for Bugsy Malone and the Muppets! And the frontman of the Strokes - where would EDM be without him?"

Maybe they just prefer male voices to female ones. I don't think their "field" is relevant here because they've always done their own thing.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

Maybe their next album will have them collaborating with Janelle Monae or Laurie Anderson.

MarkoP, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:00 (thirteen years ago)

they're gonna collab with emeli sande obv

乒乓, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

She's waiting in reception.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:03 (thirteen years ago)

I'm sure she was their initial choice before they had to settle for Giorgio.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:06 (thirteen years ago)

NOT CONSENSUS CLASSIC -_-

Wait a minute.. You don't like Radiohead???

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:08 (thirteen years ago)

Emeli By Sande

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:19 (thirteen years ago)

I'd love to hear a cover of Get Lucky done in the celtic folk pop style of Loreena McKennitt. That's right - Loreena McKennitt! She could call it Random Access Mummer's Dance.

Emeli By Sande

A narration of the history of Radio 1 daytime music as recorded into a Nokia 8110, a Nokia 3210, and an iPhone.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:43 (thirteen years ago)

would be rad if they did something with barbara walters

ְ֮֠֓֟֬֩ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:49 (thirteen years ago)

lol i mean barbara streisand

ְ֮֠֓֟֬֩ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:49 (thirteen years ago)

a barbara walters interview would be awesome tho-- i bet they'd qualify for her "people who made the year what it was" specials in december

ְ֮֠֓֟֬֩ (gr8080), Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:50 (thirteen years ago)

it would be hard to tell if they were crying behind the masks

Moodles, Thursday, 2 May 2013 12:58 (thirteen years ago)

Barbara Walters with Daft Punk would be the greatest thing since Tammy Wynette sang with the KLF.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 2 May 2013 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

My name is Hansjörg Raggett. But you can call me Ned.

ḉrut (crüt), Thursday, 2 May 2013 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

what this thread needed was a radiohead discussion

brb buying poppers w/my employee discount (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 2 May 2013 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

Get Lucky is actually about the time that Thomas Bangalter camped out overnight outside HMV to pick up a copy of the Help compilation on release day.

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 2 May 2013 15:10 (thirteen years ago)

the lyrics are actually "ned raggett on the money"

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Thursday, 2 May 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

Bob Lefsetz, a music industry analyst, wrote, “Get Lucky” is the song of the summer, and it’s still SPRING!”

woah

scintilla (seandalai), Thursday, 2 May 2013 21:15 (thirteen years ago)

the nubile Lefsetz reacts positively to this DISCO creation...

ḉrut (crüt), Thursday, 2 May 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

Poor people on the southern hemisphere. It's the song of the Summer and it's still Autumn for them.
