It's not THAT much of a dance album - lots of live drums and slow tempos. It's er, kind of ripe, isn't it? Just got to Meridians, the danciest thing so far. Good stuff.

There's a lot more going in terms of notes on this than the Lindstrom (which is the same chord for the first nine minutes).

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:52 (seventeen years ago)

I like the Reinterpretations with Prins Thomas the most out of any of his stuff, that might be a kindof challopsy thing to say, I'm not sure.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:53 (seventeen years ago)

there's a sweet spot right in the belly of Where You Go though. About the 14 minute mark.

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

Where is #20?

ilxor, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:14 (seventeen years ago)

my guess is you will need to wait an hour

Youtube-tactular (or something) of a couple records I actually know and think should get more of a chance to be heard - first, Solange:

and the boards of canada one:

The Malkmus album:

oh screw this, i am going to make a cup of tea. i might youtubez the reatard and los campesinos! after if i can be bothered.

OK, the beginning of the Alex Moulton is a bit deceptive. The middle section is much more up, and it's great. Had I heard it I would have voted for it.

rubbish

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

I only really like "Electric Feel"

someone who seems to only rep for ghastly prefab autotuned pop (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

i liked it more than i thought i would.

lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

mgmt pushes buttons that would have made me like them sort by default 10 yrs ago. but at this point i think those buttons are worn out for me, i'd need chemical inducement to show any excitement. i don't mind them, they just, you know... hmm.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:54 (seventeen years ago)

sort OF by default...

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

My friend went to high school in Memphis with the Andrew guy from MGMT, so I can't hate on them too hard because she says he's really nice...but I still only care about the three singles.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

that album is weaksauce

goole, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:56 (seventeen years ago)

Would be good if you had 5 "antivotes" that took AWAY 20, 15, 10, 5 and 1 points, tbh

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

ELECTRODRIBBLE!

ilxor, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

YES OMG!

ilxor, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, it'd make Musically's job harder, but it'd also make shit WAY less predictable

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

and funnier

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

thank fuck mgmt aren't any higher - that piece of shit album was top 10, top 5 like everywhere else. pushing it down to no 20 is a good achievement for ilm

lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, well with my little scheme in operation it'd have been *even* lower!

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

actually i'm being a bit unfair - mgmt themselves aren't actually offensively bad, just kinda boring and tedious and blah. what irks is how many people falling over themselves to praise it.

lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)

i think getting mgmt out of the way so 'early' is quite unpredictable. they had the most amount of singles place right (i guess maybe wayne/t.i. might have beaten them)? i thought it was a lock for top 10. glad it placed where it did though, and it wasn't pushed up higher by being the token #15 or whatever on more peoples lists.

i'm getting too old for this ship (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

"antivotes" would necessarily go to expected critical faves, right? like, even if you really hated, i dunno, lau nau or danity kane (to pick examples at random) you'd never give an antivote to them because you'd never imagine they'd place. i'm in favour!

lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

my antivotes: ting tings, vampire weekend, fleet foxes, mgmt, bon iver. there, easy

lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

^^^this is basically my reasoning. "antivotes" would go, in bulk, to particularly high-profile LCD* (lowest common denominator) records, allowing slightly more obscure and better stuff like yer lau naus or danitys to shoot forwards into the limelight

*lol see what I did there

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

If Fleet Foxes ends up in the top 5, I'll sign on to the antivote petition.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

because what this poll is lacking is obscure records placing.

i'm getting too old for this ship (a hoy hoy), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:15 (seventeen years ago)

my antivotes are actually quite similar to the lex's, throw in TVOTR instead of Bon Iver (not heard so can't judge) and yeah can roll with that

a hoy hoy, we haven't seen the top 19 yet :(

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

louis stop being retarded

happy house of representatives (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

You'd get like a bunch of stuff ending up with -130 votes or something.

Frank Sumatra (NickB), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:17 (seventeen years ago)

numbers 50-21: "omg what are these i have never heard of them you obscurantists waht"

MGMT shows up in spot 20: "dear god how can we destroy the hegemony of this list before it is too late"

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

i would be down w/vampire weekend ending up with -130 points

lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

u tru (xp)

Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

Didn't know you liked Danity Kane so much Louis

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:19 (seventeen years ago)

^^^this is why it's a good idea xposts to Nick B

I wasn't *overly* impressed with the obscurity/eclecticism of 50-21 tbh, when things went weird they did so in quite a rote "hai have some psych-folk and some obscure dance and maybe the MOST high-profile metal released last year" manner

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard Danity Kane but I'm assuming that he's better than MGMT

Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

lol

Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

ok you're trolling

happy house of representatives (J0rdan S.), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

Bitch, bitch, bitch.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:20 (seventeen years ago)

anyone repping for "antivotes" is a point-missing moron who really needs to think about why they're here.

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

"Anti-Votes" aren't a bad idea, they do it over at SOMB and their lists are pretty okay

someone who seems to only rep for ghastly prefab autotuned pop (The Brainwasher), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

a rote "hai have some psych-folk and some obscure dance and maybe the MOST high-profile metal released last year" manner

oh that rote manner

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

there is a pretty noxious attitude underlying the idea of antivotes so that you can weed out the "lowest common denominator" votes the rest of us cast, LJ. maybe give it a rest.

BTW this is not because i am a MGMT stan or anything
