Tuomas makes Crystal Castles sound bloody amazing. But I fear i'd be just disappointed.
― The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:04 (seventeen years ago)
I fear you would.
― m the g, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:07 (seventeen years ago)
if Crystal Castles chart and Late Of The Pier don't, then I'm sorry but something is rotten in the state of ILM and y'all have cloth ears
― Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:08 (seventeen years ago)
FYI there are 3 or 4 Adult. albums that pretty much fit Tuomas' description of CCs there, with the added bonus of being good
― am I selling cardamom or am I selling thyme (DJ Mencap), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:10 (seventeen years ago)
Late Of The Pier are obviously going to make this poll, stop whining.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:10 (seventeen years ago)
eeh, CC have the higher profile anyway
i think the album is 2/3 great and 1/3 unlistenable shite
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:11 (seventeen years ago)
I always got the feeling the ILM LOTP following was stronger though. The crazy all-over-the-place nature of this list so far means the top 20 is going to be super-predictable.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:20 (seventeen years ago)
I only listened to that Late of the Pier album once, but I thought it was HORRIBLE, even though I like that sort of thing.
― Jamie T Smith, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:21 (seventeen years ago)
The crazy all-over-the-place nature of this list so far means the top 20 is going to be super-predictable.
This at least is what I feel, although Musically protests otherwise.
LOTP album got better with every listen fwiw, it's ingeniously sequenced and an absolute blast from start to finish, with way more sophistication than you'd expect
― Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:22 (seventeen years ago)
I am listening to the Alex Moulton album now, having just seen the cover for the first time ... (i have images turned off here) ...
― Jamie T Smith, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:26 (seventeen years ago)
The Alex Moulton album is a REALLY good soundtrack for when you're watching a football match but don't care enough about it to listen to the commentary.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)
i completely forgot to listen to it
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:30 (seventeen years ago)
It's the one dance album of last year I think you'd really like. Big and bombastic and sci-fi.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:32 (seventeen years ago)
Does that mean I'd like it too?
― Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:33 (seventeen years ago)
No wait, you've already called Lindstrom as mine
There is some craziness is in the top 20 but I don't want to oversell it...besides some omissions it's really the order that will surprise people...certain things will be a lot higher and certain things will not crack the top 5 as predicted by many people here, etc.
― lil waynes babymama (musically), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)
Musician and filmmaker Alex Moulton to release his debut artist album “Exodus” this summer on Expansion Team Records“Exodus” is an epic sci-fi/fantasy concept album that falls between the classic synthesizer palette of Vangelis and the future disco of Daft Punk.Album artwork painted by legendary fantasy artists Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell
― The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:40 (seventeen years ago)
LJ - I think you'd like Lindstrom more than Alex Moulton although both might appeal in different ways. I'd say listen to the Lindstrom first though - it has three tracks and the first is half an hour long.

― Bianca Jagger (jaymc), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:51 (seventeen years ago)
It's not THAT much of a dance album - lots of live drums and slow tempos. It's er, kind of ripe, isn't it? Just got to Meridians, the danciest thing so far. Good stuff.
There's a lot more going in terms of notes on this than the Lindstrom (which is the same chord for the first nine minutes).
― Jamie T Smith, Friday, 13 February 2009 15:52 (seventeen years ago)
I like the Reinterpretations with Prins Thomas the most out of any of his stuff, that might be a kindof challopsy thing to say, I'm not sure.
― Plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 13 February 2009 15:53 (seventeen years ago)
there's a sweet spot right in the belly of Where You Go though. About the 14 minute mark.

OK, the beginning of the Alex Moulton is a bit deceptive. The middle section is much more up, and it's great. Had I heard it I would have voted for it.

mgmt pushes buttons that would have made me like them sort by default 10 yrs ago. but at this point i think those buttons are worn out for me, i'd need chemical inducement to show any excitement. i don't mind them, they just, you know... hmm.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Friday, 13 February 2009 16:54 (seventeen years ago)
sort OF by default...

My friend went to high school in Memphis with the Andrew guy from MGMT, so I can't hate on them too hard because she says he's really nice...but I still only care about the three singles.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 13 February 2009 16:55 (seventeen years ago)
that album is weaksauce

YES OMG!
I mean, it'd make Musically's job harder, but it'd also make shit WAY less predictable
― Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)
and funnier
thank fuck mgmt aren't any higher - that piece of shit album was top 10, top 5 like everywhere else. pushing it down to no 20 is a good achievement for ilm
― lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:09 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, well with my little scheme in operation it'd have been *even* lower!
― Robin van Injury (country matters), Friday, 13 February 2009 17:10 (seventeen years ago)
actually i'm being a bit unfair - mgmt themselves aren't actually offensively bad, just kinda boring and tedious and blah. what irks is how many people falling over themselves to praise it.
― lex pretend, Friday, 13 February 2009 17:11 (seventeen years ago)
i think getting mgmt out of the way so 'early' is quite unpredictable. they had the most amount of singles place right (i guess maybe wayne/t.i. might have beaten them)? i thought it was a lock for top 10. glad it placed where it did though, and it wasn't pushed up higher by being the token #15 or whatever on more peoples lists.
