That's weird. I looked up that review at the library just the other day to check the exact quote. Reviewer was Dave Jennings and it was on the singles reviews page. Didn't notice what the SOTW was.

ha, I actually came across Aufgang through "independent research" and mentioned them upthread but they are too slick/busy/produced for what I'm looking for. Now if you had something that sounded like rough Aufgang demos played on piano + drums...

Yeah, I keep harping on that as I seem to recall it was presented more like a band, a experimental duo or trio maybe who were exploring a house-y sound through reverb-y piano repetition and drums, as opposed to a house producer using live sounding instrumentation, which is mostly what I've been able to turn up.

Probably too full and jazzy for your description, but I really loved this a couple of years back and thought it worth sharing.

It was playing on the tinny radio behind the counter where I was getting my lunch (not in the US though). It sounded pretty terrible tbh, I can see why you'd ramp up the compression if that's the media you're targeting.

It's been getting some airplay on that Canadian station that accidentally leaked it.

yes, i've been hearing it quite a bit on one of my city's top 40 stations basically ever since it premiered

was scanning through Boston's Kiss 108 playlist of 206 songs to see if it would show up; got to "Stuck On You" by Lionel Richie before lolling and bailing

Jam'n 94.5, the hip-hop station, has three Macklemore songs in its top 40 so I'm not going to keep looking as I don't want to start crying

I am reasonably certain that mid-70s is not "middle-aged"
