I'm always impressed how elementary school kids can't get enough of Discovery.

Da Funk was my favorite song when I was 7-8, parents would play it all the time and it made sense to me. Not unlike MJ.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 25 April 2013 16:38 (thirteen years ago)

but actually it doesn't work because they're doing things that reminds their early stuff while DP's new album doesn't seem to be about what they were doing but what inspired them as kids...

aw this thread made me listen to this for the first time since these days... it was also among the tracks that would be played everywhere in Paris then.

which makes me wonder : do people, sayg under 30, care about this new DP ? ime very very much YES, i would guess even that for a majority of daft punk fans in the us this is the first daft punk release they've gotten to experience in real time and they are stoked

balls, Thursday, 25 April 2013 16:55 (thirteen years ago)

People under 30 are awaiting this like the second coming, i say it blows JT out of the water for now.

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 25 April 2013 17:01 (thirteen years ago)

ten years from now it's gonna all be a group of ilxor kids going "oh yeah well i got ratatat's first mix cd when i was like NINE"

brb buying poppers w/my employee discount (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 25 April 2013 17:07 (thirteen years ago)

kinda surprised we don't have any Aja types popping in nowadays who are younger than ILX

the Upperchest (crüt), Thursday, 25 April 2013 17:09 (thirteen years ago)

I'm waiting for the ones who are the RESULT of ILX.

poster named 'pipecock' gave 'get lucky' the thumbs up on a RA review, did he get banned? or is he still around under a diff dn? used to enjoy his recommedations on the dance threads

Crackle Box, Thursday, 25 April 2013 17:48 (thirteen years ago)

It's sad that I can remember reading this review. I am so old.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:16 (thirteen years ago)

I still HAVE that issue. Remember that review too. Hell I'm pretty sure I remembered at the time just as a random description I thought worked great.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:23 (thirteen years ago)

that stereolab track is so great

balls, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

Who wrote that review?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

what does that darlin' 45 go for now?

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

IIRC it was Ian Gittins but I could be wrong. I'll have to dig that up.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:39 (thirteen years ago)

answering my own Q

apparently $106 on discogs

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:40 (thirteen years ago)

"daft punky" doesn't really work, good call robots

anonanon, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:44 (thirteen years ago)

I regret not buying that because of Huggy Bear hatred.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:46 (thirteen years ago)

What was Single of the Week, while you're at it?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:49 (thirteen years ago)

Actually that's probably an album review from the layout. I always liked that font, MM was great to read.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 25 April 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)

No it was a singles column entry, I remember that much.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:00 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I pulled the review from GIS so I don't remember what the single of the week was.

The last of the famous international Greyjoys (Nicole), Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

CrispyBen, nope no luck on those leads, thx though.

anonanon, what about Aufgang? Playing their new record right now and thinking of your query...

crispyben, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:11 (thirteen years ago)

That's weird. I looked up that review at the library just the other day to check the exact quote. Reviewer was Dave Jennings and it was on the singles reviews page. Didn't notice what the SOTW was.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:14 (thirteen years ago)

ha, I actually came across Aufgang through "independent research" and mentioned them upthread but they are too slick/busy/produced for what I'm looking for. Now if you had something that sounded like rough Aufgang demos played on piano + drums...

anonanon, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

was it: http://www.beatport.com/track/tantakatan-original-mix/527292 ??

the late great, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:42 (thirteen years ago)

j/k but that's what i keep thinking of when you say piano and drums

the late great, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:44 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, I keep harping on that as I seem to recall it was presented more like a band, a experimental duo or trio maybe who were exploring a house-y sound through reverb-y piano repetition and drums, as opposed to a house producer using live sounding instrumentation, which is mostly what I've been able to turn up.

anonanon, Thursday, 25 April 2013 19:55 (thirteen years ago)

Probably too full and jazzy for your description, but I really loved this a couple of years back and thought it worth sharing.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 25 April 2013 23:24 (thirteen years ago)

what about Tussle?

brimstead, Thursday, 25 April 2013 23:27 (thirteen years ago)

when did the weekly inky UK press stop bleeping out the swears? they print 'F***' as 'Fuck' in NME these days and i'm sure have done for years.

piscesx, Friday, 26 April 2013 01:44 (thirteen years ago)

It wasn't Hauschka was it?

they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 26 April 2013 05:20 (thirteen years ago)

Oasis getting big really undermined that policy xp, when for years the content of every other page was "Fook! Fookin c***!"

I didn't know what c*** was when I first started buying it

Ismael Klata, Friday, 26 April 2013 06:17 (thirteen years ago)

I think Shaun Ryder was why NME invented "fook"

Question: is the song getting any mainstream airplay in the US? Any airplay at all?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 April 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

It was playing on the tinny radio behind the counter where I was getting my lunch (not in the US though). It sounded pretty terrible tbh, I can see why you'd ramp up the compression if that's the media you're targeting.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 26 April 2013 14:20 (thirteen years ago)

It's been getting some airplay on that Canadian station that accidentally leaked it.

MarkoP, Friday, 26 April 2013 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
