am I the only person who doesn't feel Pharrell's vocal on Get Lucky at all? Love the track and the vocorder part, but the vocal seems weak and generic.

I think The Reverend was refering to Around the World, which I am unsure as to whether or not it's more popular than Da Funk.

That's generally been my response to Pharrell as singer; he manufactures a feeling. It works here though -- the vocal is more anonymous than Nile Rodgers -- because the damn track is hologram disco anyway.

the melody/phrasing of his bit on Get Lucky is very non-memorable, sounds kind of like something tacked on last minute

his vocals on the verses are really great, there's something very old school in the looseness of the singing, the tossed off little ahhs and hmms and shit

best part of this song is the outro, rest is pleasant, not feeling the vocal whatsoever. this is a decent driving around town jam but it's not transcendent like their peak.

Touch

This song marks the second part of the album. It is at this point we're we met with sound engineer, Paul Williams. Paul Williams visited us in the studio and from this meeting something very cinematic and very narrative(?) was born. "Touch" clearly defines the psychedelic aspect of "Random Access Memories." This piece is made up of 250 different tracks, this is a complicated, crazy piece.

I need this to be Daft Punk's "I'm Not In Love"

ya, this would be great as an instrumental or w a different singer. and the lyrics jeez...cornball central haha... i cant sing along to these lyrics without cringing inside or laughing... granted, dance music isnt meant to have profound lyrics but these are just bad...sigh.

Okay, first up... what's with the Pharrell hate? Is there some sort of venn-circle diagram that shows Daft Punk listeners and the immense amount of awesome stuff Pharrell has touched bizarrely don't overlap, which explains this? Or is it specifically his singing, like, does Pharrell singing ruin Shake Ya Ass for you? 'cause to my ears that's music at it's most exuberant and who would hate that? Or is it just not on your radar? I don't know.

And also, part of the charm and joy of this track, for me at least, is that it's four producers playing together. There is no front man and it's not meant to break down like that. It's like a supergroup of producers. It's very mannered and conceived in the way music nerds make things.

otm, it sounds luminous, effervescent, magnificently happy just to be doing this one nice thing for you and your ears. pharrell isn't exactly blowing me away, but he slots right in and supports the vibe. he's raising the cup, and that's all that's really required.

there isn't much of it on here but some people who don't hate him are saying his vocal is poor. fine (i agree) - w/r/t to others who do hate - it's fine to hate pharrell's vocals or his vocal on this, at least, and wish he wasn't on it.
