Haha you would be totally vibing out to it if it didn't have the words 'Daft Punk' attached to it.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

is there a reason this has 900 new answers pre-release btw? i have literally paid NO attention to it

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

It HBFS vocoders over a classic Chic groove. That's good enough for any summer.

Me So Hormetic (Sanpaku), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

it's not objectionable or anything it's just kinda dull. people are going nuts over this because...

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:35 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that's the thing, if it were just put out by some other nu-disco producer then it wouldn't have the thousand-post thread and the hysteria. But it's a lot better than that, and not every jobbing nu-disco producer can get Nile Rodgers on a track.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:37 (thirteen years ago)

It's about:

300 posts of people handwringing about Julian Casablancas/Pharrell/Panda Bear
200 posts of people posting "we're up all night to get lucky" over and over again
400 posts of people torturously debating whether or not the track is fake

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:39 (thirteen years ago)

+ 1 zillion posts of pharrell_otm.gif

Clay, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:40 (thirteen years ago)

I'm putting this in a playlist with "Rock Your Body"

Happy to finally hear the whole (radio edited) track anyway.
Just to get it out of my system and stop obsessing over a 1min loop !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:44 (thirteen years ago)

the day i obsess over a 1min loop, by even my most beloved artists, is the day i take a long hard look at my life and my choices

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:45 (thirteen years ago)

don't expect that day to ever come

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:48 (thirteen years ago)

Ahah so I guess you're on the wrong thread !

you've spent more time complaining about the reaction to a 1min loop

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:52 (thirteen years ago)

even the slowest typers i know could have written that in <1min

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:57 (thirteen years ago)

ffs lex you're like john major at parties

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 09:01 (thirteen years ago)

having heard The Sherbs track intro now I'm p excited to hear the DJ Falcon collab

"Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it's not moving one inch," Thomas says. "That's not what artists are supposed to do."

great thing to say before embarking on a predictably grotesque comeback campaign of nostalgia-fetishistic mass psychosis, really puts those mindless brostep raver hordes in their place

r|t|c, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:17 (thirteen years ago)

Looking over NR's production credits, I'm not sure I recognized him with the B52s, but pretty much everything from his golden era (certainly through '84) is indelibly his record.

Me So Hormetic (Sanpaku), Friday, 19 April 2013 09:32 (thirteen years ago)

^ unmistakably, even (I've been listening to Boston police scanners into the wee hours. Slack where due).

This probably means we won't see you in this thread again right? Just like when you made your mind up about hating Grimes you didn't bother posting in her thread anymore.

Anyway, this single is perfect. So happy right now but will be even happier when we have another two minutes of it on the album.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:36 (thirteen years ago)

Straight in at number two on UK itunes.

It's actually true and an OTM point to make but on the other hand if the rest of the album is this enjoyable then who gives a shit.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:47 (thirteen years ago)

OTM.

Yeah. I think there have definitely been some comments surrounding the release of this record that have been yawn-inducing. To paraphrase: "oh music doesn't have soul anymore" or something from one of those videos upthread. Much eyerolling in the how's life house. But

if the rest of the album is this enjoyable then who gives a shit.

Yes, it's the music that matters.

how's life, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:57 (thirteen years ago)

nostalgia-fetishistic

can we use this word again next time fucking garbage are being critically reappraised?

spose. i wouldnt dispute that 'get lucky' does its job (which presumably is to make you fleetingly forget you're twelve years closer to an anonymous death idk) but all the same, it's hard to shake the intuition there is something rotten if not even essentially malign at the core of this lark

r|t|c, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:10 (thirteen years ago)

q: do u like disco
a: yes

then here is some good disco music by daft punk its called get lucky, nile rogers and pharrell are on this song, u remember them for chic and dropping hot things, respectively

Yeah I mean blanket dismissive statements about the entirety of a globally popular genre always elicit the eyeroll but all sorts of blowhards do it when they're promoting what turn out to be pretty great records.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:12 (thirteen years ago)

i appreciate the effort it took 4 u to dredge something, anything, up there but reappraisal is not reiteration

r|t|c, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

One of the breeziest most enjoyable pop tracks likely to come out all year, one that gets me going like all hell together with this summer weather and the cherry blossom peak season, and you guys sour up the thread nitpicking quotes from people who also talk about I don't know space and aliens and robots operating in the 5th dimension to change your life in relation to this project I mean come oooon it's a party up in here.

abcfsk, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:16 (thirteen years ago)

I played the official release out tonight btw. Nobody seemed to recognize or notice or be particularly enthralled. (This was at a fairly shitty portland indieish dive bar though so I mean what do you want)

Clay, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:17 (thirteen years ago)

Lex, kudos for your excellent piece on Jai Paul at tQ.

But thanks for talking bollocks on here about Daft Punk, I feared sanity had poisoned you for too long, wb <3

there's a ton of jobbing nu-disco around right now that's better than this, even minor stuff!

I would happily check out a ton of jobbing nu-disco too - even minor stuff! - if you'd obligingly drop some names instead of just obscure genres. : D

how's life, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:27 (thirteen years ago)

well there's nu indie disco like the lindstrom and chrisabelle record or pop like kylie and madonna, classic dj stuff on environ morgan geist etc or there's re-edit stuff like pilooski, dimitri from paris, leo zero, todd terje and about 10 million 'underground' names like patrizio & andrea, love unlimited vibes, then there's the whole claremont 56 thing with people like in flagranti, mudd, linkwood then you've got disco edits from detroit which has been happening forever, same with underground french filter disco, london has always had a huge disco scene from the tonka days with dj harvey or like idjut boys or whatever

nu-disco a totally meaningless term tbh and this doesn't really feel like it's part of any of those scenes but it certainly feels like it's at least aware of them, nods to soft rock, analogue recording, chic, balearic, it's a bit crusty/stoned but all in the context of a pop single / art project

Crackle Box, Friday, 19 April 2013 10:56 (thirteen years ago)

yeah why listen to this when you could listen to that stuff^^
