"provides nothing in innovative qualities."

people sound like such fucking nerds when they say stuff like this. since when is music required to be "innovative" and since when should that be evident w/in 2 hours of a piece of music being released?

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Friday, 19 April 2013 06:50 (thirteen years ago)

reminds me of

"It's practically brainwashing, isn't it? Daft Punk seem to be operating under the premise that if you hear something enough times, you'll start to believe it. But after more than 15 listens to Discovery's first single and opening track, "One More Time," vocodered vocalist Romanthony doesn't have me "feeling the need," much less not waiting, celebrating, and dancing so free. This could just be me, of course. Maybe I just haven't taken enough ecstasy and horse tranquilizers to appreciate the tinny, sampled brass ensemble, the too-sincere "chill out" midsection, or the fat drum machine beats that throb in time with my headache."

anonanon, Friday, 19 April 2013 07:00 (thirteen years ago)

i used to hate 'one more time'

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 07:15 (thirteen years ago)

so when Daft Punk sits down with Niles Rogers to talk.. or share a meal, do they keep the helmets on? Is this one of those things where they never break character like Alf?

sanskrit, Friday, 19 April 2013 07:53 (thirteen years ago)

You've been daft punk'd !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:23 (thirteen years ago)

Interesting interview... Oddly enough they mention their track with panda bear as the only "electronic" song n this album.

I have to sleep, if I have time ill do a translation tomorrow for you guys.

Moka, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:24 (thirteen years ago)

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:26 (thirteen years ago)

uh oh

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:27 (thirteen years ago)

Haha you would be totally vibing out to it if it didn't have the words 'Daft Punk' attached to it.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

is there a reason this has 900 new answers pre-release btw? i have literally paid NO attention to it

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

It HBFS vocoders over a classic Chic groove. That's good enough for any summer.

Me So Hormetic (Sanpaku), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:34 (thirteen years ago)

it's not objectionable or anything it's just kinda dull. people are going nuts over this because...

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:35 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that's the thing, if it were just put out by some other nu-disco producer then it wouldn't have the thousand-post thread and the hysteria. But it's a lot better than that, and not every jobbing nu-disco producer can get Nile Rodgers on a track.

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:37 (thirteen years ago)

It's about:

300 posts of people handwringing about Julian Casablancas/Pharrell/Panda Bear
200 posts of people posting "we're up all night to get lucky" over and over again
400 posts of people torturously debating whether or not the track is fake

Matt DC, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:39 (thirteen years ago)

+ 1 zillion posts of pharrell_otm.gif

Clay, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:40 (thirteen years ago)

I'm putting this in a playlist with "Rock Your Body"

+ loads and loads of 'daft punk is/is not equal to the following bands'

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:41 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah that's the thing, if it were just put out by some other nu-disco producer then it wouldn't have the thousand-post thread and the hysteria. But it's a lot better than that

there's a ton of jobbing nu-disco around right now that's better than this, even minor stuff! and would you know it was nile rodgers if you hadn't been told?

300 posts of people handwringing about Julian Casablancas/Pharrell/Panda Bear

i didn't know about the first or third person. lollllllllllllllllllllllll my briefly flickering interest has been 100% extinguished. ENJOY YR MEDIOCRE MUSIC EVERYONE

Happy to finally hear the whole (radio edited) track anyway.
Just to get it out of my system and stop obsessing over a 1min loop !

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 19 April 2013 08:44 (thirteen years ago)

the day i obsess over a 1min loop, by even my most beloved artists, is the day i take a long hard look at my life and my choices

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:45 (thirteen years ago)

don't expect that day to ever come

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:48 (thirteen years ago)

you've spent more time complaining about the reaction to a 1min loop

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:52 (thirteen years ago)

even the slowest typers i know could have written that in <1min

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Friday, 19 April 2013 08:57 (thirteen years ago)

ffs lex you're like john major at parties

ice cr?mated (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 19 April 2013 09:01 (thirteen years ago)

some songs are 1 minute long or less - god just imagine obsessing over them...

having heard The Sherbs track intro now I'm p excited to hear the DJ Falcon collab

"Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it's not moving one inch," Thomas says. "That's not what artists are supposed to do."

great thing to say before embarking on a predictably grotesque comeback campaign of nostalgia-fetishistic mass psychosis, really puts those mindless brostep raver hordes in their place

r|t|c, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:17 (thirteen years ago)

Looking over NR's production credits, I'm not sure I recognized him with the B52s, but pretty much everything from his golden era (certainly through '84) is indelibly his record.

Me So Hormetic (Sanpaku), Friday, 19 April 2013 09:32 (thirteen years ago)

^ unmistakably, even (I've been listening to Boston police scanners into the wee hours. Slack where due).

This probably means we won't see you in this thread again right? Just like when you made your mind up about hating Grimes you didn't bother posting in her thread anymore.

Anyway, this single is perfect. So happy right now but will be even happier when we have another two minutes of it on the album.

Kitchen Person, Friday, 19 April 2013 09:36 (thirteen years ago)

It's actually true and an OTM point to make but on the other hand if the rest of the album is this enjoyable then who gives a shit.

Yeah. I think there have definitely been some comments surrounding the release of this record that have been yawn-inducing. To paraphrase: "oh music doesn't have soul anymore" or something from one of those videos upthread. Much eyerolling in the how's life house. But

if the rest of the album is this enjoyable then who gives a shit.

Yes, it's the music that matters.
