I didn't really take to Saturday Night Wrist... my favourites are the first one and White Pony.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 15 April 2013 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

I quite like Saturday but tbh for me Deftones is one of these bands where having one of their album is enough.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 07:46 (thirteen years ago)

eleven months pass...

they released a song from the shelved album eros today in honor of chi, it's really gorgeous

nice, warner brothers, you are assholes

akm, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 05:11 (twelve years ago)

Shoulda been more Koi No Yokan talk in here, what a great record.

Simon H., Tuesday, 15 April 2014 12:44 (twelve years ago)

It is great, this is a good reminder to pull it out again.

akm - what's the story with Warner Bros? I thought the band themselves decided to shelve Eros, is it being held up by the label now or something?

djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:17 (twelve years ago)

in terms of its release, from what i know eros is an incomplete record that'll probably stay incomplete

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:19 (twelve years ago)

anyway yeah koi no yokan is probably their best album

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:20 (twelve years ago)

That's what I thought too Brad, wasn't sure what akm was saying.

djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:21 (twelve years ago)

warner bros took down the youtube of "smile" that the band uploaded themselves for some reason, idk

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:23 (twelve years ago)

oh got it

djenter the dragon? (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:30 (twelve years ago)

I just had a geek moment and realized that the way the special red edition of White Pony displays the track times but not the titles on the cover is a nod to the packaging of Hum's Downward Is Heavenward.

Anyway I also think the s/t record is underrated, so many jams and probably their two best guitar-free tracks.

Simon H., Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:45 (twelve years ago)

i still think "minerva" is their best single. an incredible summary of their aesthetic

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:56 (twelve years ago)

Yesss. The production on that album and that song in particular is so ludicrously expansive (expensive).

Simon H., Tuesday, 15 April 2014 18:57 (twelve years ago)

eight months pass...

every few months i'll put on koi no yokan and it's really one of the best records to come out in the last few years and i think i'm really almost 100 percent sure it's better than white pony

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Monday, 5 January 2015 07:31 (eleven years ago)

one year passes...

one month passes...

Turmoil in the band as guitarist Stephen Carpenter admits to not liking the direction new album Gore took. Good sign, I think, as he also hated White Pony. Although, I would like to eventually hear a Deftones record directed by Stephen.

sunlick databait extremer, Wednesday, 16 March 2016 20:33 (ten years ago)

I am emphatically not too cool for deftones

can't believe divorcedalcoholicloser isn't on ilx any more

Szechuan TV (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 21:21 (ten years ago)

i have time for this band but the idea that the honourable gentleman divorcealcoholicloser flouts in the op, which ive heard repeated often, that they are lumped into nu-metal because of "who they hung out with when they first started" is just wrong: they have rap metal songs, there are a number of sonic similarities to other bad and hated nu-metal peers in their music, espesh in the first two albums, i saw them tour with linkin park and taproot 13 years after they formed the band. just embrace the fact that you like a nu-metal band ffs.

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

saying "they have rap metal songs" is p misleading though, they've recorded precisely zero of those in the last 15 years

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 21:45 (ten years ago)

doesn't mean it didn't happen

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 21:47 (ten years ago)

perfectly fine with considering them the best possible nu-metal band

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 22:01 (ten years ago)

their music is still wayyy groove-oriented

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 16 March 2016 22:01 (ten years ago)

is REM rap rock because they did a song with KRS One

sunlick databait extremer, Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:38 (ten years ago)

sunlick databait extremer, Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:39 (ten years ago)

sunlick databait extremer, Thursday, 17 March 2016 15:41 (ten years ago)

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2016 17:17 (ten years ago)

sunlick databait extremer, Thursday, 17 March 2016 18:35 (ten years ago)

i am nu-metal

uncle tenderlegdrop (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2016 18:37 (ten years ago)

ejemplo (crüt), Friday, 25 March 2016 16:55 (ten years ago)

most deft

Stoner Gabbneb & the Cocoon of Cluelessness (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 26 March 2016 04:48 (ten years ago)

A few more Gore songs are kicking around. This is sounding pleasantly all over the place.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 3 April 2016 00:47 (ten years ago)

And "Phantom Bride" contains something truly shocking.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 3 April 2016 00:52 (ten years ago)

a vinyl rip is out there

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 April 2016 15:32 (ten years ago)

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 April 2016 15:34 (ten years ago)

pretty sure if you had played me the intro to "geometric headdress" and told me it was gorguts i'd be like "hm yeah checks out"
