Jesse Boykins III cutting loose. As usual kinda awkward, kinda awesome:

guess there was brief discussion of this on the Chicago thread. anyways, La Lechera alerted me to this, cuz she knows I am R&B/dance-sympatethic. Not at all sure this belongs on this thread--probably doesn't, in fact--but def feels this might be something that Rev or Tim F might find some enjoyment from:

Denitia and Sene's 'His and Hers' is one of my favorite albums of the year, and this track in particular

I'm not sure this is weird enough to qualify but I didn't want to post it in the rolling r&b thread because it's got white people with beards in it and we know how that offends a particular brand of poster. It's from Rare Times' EP "Missionary" which I'm really enjoying. It reminds me of Morgan Geist too.

Those were both dope. I might have to check out that Denitia and Sene album

this shuanise song off the new eglo records comp a) sounds nothing like anything else on it (it's a good little label though), b) blew my mind a bit

Everything I've ever heard with Shaunise on it has been great yet I still have no clear idea who she actually is.

More from the beached whale school of R&B

that shuanise song is easily the most underrated of the year so far. it's spectacular. i don't know anything about her either.

Is this the thread to discuss Blood Orange? Curious to hear what the regulars think of Cupid Deluxe. The world is so over-saturated with mock Sade these days that I have a hard time getting excited about this sound, but some of these songs are pretty OK.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 21:45 (twelve years ago)

What else has dude done? I feel like I've listened to several hours of music that sounds just like this over the last few years, and I can't remember a single damn chorus from any of it

Evan R, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 21:46 (twelve years ago)

He helped do the only good Sky Ferreira track

That's all I know

Most of the album I listened to was boring but I'll rep for champagne coast and chamaray

lex pretend, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 21:49 (twelve years ago)

I think it's called Chamakay.

I actually quite like a lot of the stuff he's done with female vocalists but Cupid Deluxe was a real bore.

if Solange likes Kelela so much, she should just make a Fade To Mind-produced record too (or even better, hire another like-minded crew of producers and take the same approach).

I have a lot of problems with this whole aesthetic; the biggest is that artists use it as an excuse to disguise thin songwriting. But the one that bothers me the most is the way every artist seems to think its incredibly unique and novel, when in reality the internet is saturated with this stuff

Evan R, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 00:37 (twelve years ago)

Dev Hynes did this which is def the best fake Prince song I've heard this year

Not sure if this belongs here. Was listening to the Diskotopia label releases the past few days, trying to figure out why they're hyped in a way, and this Fujimoto Tetsuro record stood out after a couple of listens. It's nothing remarkable, but hits a sweet spot of like IDM-versioning Rock the Boat-era Aaliyah.

hmmmmm

In L.A.'s revivified funk scene, the 26-year-old Bay Area native is emerging as a potential torchbearer. On his debut full-length, Contact, Brown triangulates early Prince, a grown, sexy Janet Jackson and Mr. Contact himself—Carl Sagan, if you're nasty—connecting the corporeal, the spiritual and the extraterrestrial through vintage synths, bangin' drum machines and the occasional ripping guitar solo. And he does it while rocking a look best described as Lloyd Christmas-meets-new jack swing.
