Ha xp, was thinking earlier about how the Beatles debuted Sgt Pepper in the same way the morning they finished it; only it was across Chelsea rooftops and not a lake.

One awesome thing about that Rolling Stone article, it makes it pretty clear that the band (if not the label) is specifically counting on iPhone users posting stuff on the Internet to promote the record virally. That bodes well, if the labels recognize this, for people being the maintain their rights to record video at concerts -- the banning of which via geocoding has been discussed among RIAA types.

When did everyone start shitting on Pharrell? I know his output hasn't been fantastic as of late, but did he devour babies at some point? Judging from some of the comments on various forums, some people either think he's Usher and Daft Punk have somehow 'sold-out', or they're requesting edits without him on it. Weird.

I'd like to believe that if MJ was still with us today he would be the one singing lead on Get Lucky
he probably wouldn't have agreed to it, but either way, i'm now bummed wondering about the idea.

its called standards yo. some things are better than others, unles you don't agree that those tracks are higher level than your average music. if you think pharrell is already on the same level as daft punk than i can understand how that would work in your mind

Pharrell is just a turn off for me personally, and I think a lot of people feel that way. I feel the same way about Julian Casablancas but we haven't heard any of that track so I'll reserve judgment. I just think it's a bad move to bring in strong/divisive personalities as collaborators - especially on vocals, where personality/style is so up front. Obviously a lot of prejudices coming to the table but I'm none too happy that my first listen to a real new Daft Punk song involved a healthy dose of "Skateboard P."

Dunno, at some point you just have to accept and embrace this as the blockbuster it's obviously intended to be, but even complaining about Casablancas feels off when fucking Panda Bear is on this.

Judging by Casablancas' solo album, it”s not such an odd match. That album was filled with 80s pastiche here and there.

Panda bear, on the other hand... I love him but I can't see the connection. Also he”s not a great singer, it fits his style but it has null pop appeal. I hope he proves me wrong.
