i can see thinking they're serviceable or that they round out the track(s) in a way that is somehow appropriate, but great, purely as a vocal performance, is a stretch.

mb not but they have character. at least it's not panda bear.

Anyone else finding this record just makes so much more sense in the spring sunshine?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 13:33 (thirteen years ago)

Definitely an album for great weather. (See also the new Daft Punk, I suspect.)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 13:40 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, excited about hearing this mix, will download asap when I get home.

Between Koze and Actress, great year for DJ Kicks!

Also love his titles: Music is Okay; All People is My Friends; I Haven’t Been Everywhere But It’s On My List.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 17 June 2015 16:05 (ten years ago)

This mix sounds perfect in the cool air of a sunny Saturday afternoon. I had never really bought into the hype of Marcel Fengler's "Jaz" but it sounds so good in this mix, and there's no bad time to hear Portable's "Surrender" either.

Jaz is great on it's own!

Anyways, this mix is basically just a compilation of tracks with kind-of-irritating vocals, no?

EDB, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 18:37 (ten years ago)

Love this mix. Exactly none of the vocals bother me.

Also, last week I learned his name is pronounced "kot-zuh" and it means "vomit" in German. Also, ppl say that he is an actual crazy person irl and they're worried about him.

davey, Tuesday, 1 September 2015 20:05 (ten years ago)

The stretch from the Session Victim track to the end is perfect, the rest is just really enjoyable despite itself.

this "mix" would be much better without all the dicking around. Impeccable selections of course.

DJ Koze Presents Pampa Vol 1 is mostly good, a few too many self-indulgent moments of whimsy, but generally reminding me that it's my favourite contemporary dance music label.

there's a phillip sherburne feature on koze - i think it's in pitchfork? - that's really good.

map, Wednesday, 18 April 2018 20:57 (eight years ago)

yeah, I read the thing in Pitchfork a few days ago and it's excellent. really looking forward to the new album.

Haven't heard it yet but I am going to just buy the thing because I know it is going to be super good

davey, Friday, 4 May 2018 09:54 (eight years ago)

It's sprawling and rather uplifting/'optimistic'!

in a good way.

ok maybe that's just a few tracks (the kurt wagner one especially)

you bet, nancy (map), Monday, 7 May 2018 01:21 (eight years ago)

Some mash of Herbert and matmos

I’m not convinced by all of it but Lord Knows does bring it in spades

Dyslexicon (Ross), Monday, 7 May 2018 05:04 (eight years ago)

there's sections of this that feel a better version of what the avalanches seemed to be going for on wildflower

ufo, Monday, 7 May 2018 08:43 (eight years ago)

I think he needs to focus a little bit more but he’s got a really good ear for arrangements and he’s great at bending and mixing genres. I love his work, but again, I feel he spends too much time setting moods and textures and not enough actually sending his ideas somewhere more interesting. He’s close enough to being one of the most brilliant producers of the past 10+ years.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 May 2018 09:42 (eight years ago)

That said I think I’m liking the new album even better than amygdala and that’s one of my favorite albums of this decade.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 May 2018 09:44 (eight years ago)

I think he needs to focus a little bit more
But that would take the Koze out of Koze.

dorsalstop, Monday, 7 May 2018 09:49 (eight years ago)

That’s probably true

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 7 May 2018 10:13 (eight years ago)
