idk actually bc neither brand new or saves the day "crossover" exactly. like, brand new is pretty uniformly grim, and saves the day are amazing but extremely entrenched in pop-punk and emo traditions until in reverie where they decide to sound like weezer (and it's their best record imo but i'm alone in that)

one thing i'd recommend actually is taking back sunday's louder now, which wouldn't be on a lot of Best Emo Crossover lists but is a crucial record in that it creates a lot of the space that infinity on high would expand on the next year. this may be a false narrative but it's kind of how i experienced it

like, produced by eric valentine, sounds like a million bucks, released within the time "sugar we're going down" and "i write sings not tragedies" became massive on radio

déjà entendu is alltime as is Thursdays war all the time. When I get home ill look thru my emo albums for other reccs

The first two tracks have grown on me but so far, this does not click with me anywhere near as much as Folie a Deux. No "Disloyal Order" or "Coffee's for Closers" here. (Admittedly, Folie took a little while to grow on me too.)

that album was super immediate for me. happy to give this one time, though.

This album kinda reminds me of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals, in a good way.

the drum outro on 'young volcanoes' makes me wish that fall out boy would cover 'monk chant' ... the thought of which is exploding my brain

I missed out on the brief emo canon tangent above, but I would nominate Midtown's debut as a dark horse candidate

OK, I'm pretty hooked right now. "Young Volcanoes" is the only one I skip. "Alone Together" is pretty great. I'm not sure which R&B artist it reminds me of.

i was driving from NY to Philly yesterday and falling asleep at the wheel -- blasting this album really loud and singing along surely saved my life

i'll take your heart served up two ways

the "so we can take the world back from a heart attack, one maniac at a time, we will take it back" part is just

yes but next is even better: "you know time crawls on while you're waiting for the song to start, so dance alone to the beat of your heart"

i'm still waiting for this album to click, has not really hooked me.

it took me what seemed forever to love the first half but here we are

once "miss missing you" kicked in i saw hearts though (evidence upthread)

yeah i might only like 1/2 of this or so but its def clicked - 'phoenix', 'miss missing you' & 'where did the party go' are undeniable jams

"the mighty fall": awesome and funny

"just one yesterday": was so put off by the adele-isms at first but the chorus is deepened necessarily by foxes
