My god this album.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:16 (thirteen years ago)
It's like the rock version of the Carly Rae Jepsen album.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
are you having a menage w/ this and the Paramore?
― some dude, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:21 (thirteen years ago)
Yes.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)
Actually I've been so intensely reminded of my love of both bands this week that I suddenly feel inspired to hear all the emo-crossover I never checked out before (Say Anything etc.)
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:27 (thirteen years ago)
oh man Say Anything Is A Real Boy is still my fav major label emo album of them all
― some dude, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah that's top of my list.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
Join us rolling emo/pop-punk/bullshit 2013
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)
but yeah between these albums and the MCR breakup is really is a good time to reconnect w/ this stuff. been meaning to check out Brad's rolling thread.
ha xpost
Haha I just cross-referenced all the emo albums that ended up on the people's lists of people I trust.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)
Say Anything r great, at least that album FOR SURE
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)
yeah paramore and fall out boy this week have really just made me so very happy
WE ARE LIKE YOUNG VOLCANOES :Dhow does a song that's a mix of 'hey soul sister' and 'we are young' sounds this wonderful
― buenos noches, do not approach us (uberweiss), Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)
Omg I hear that.
yeah it should be the worst thing ever but it rules so hard
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:30 (thirteen years ago)
didn't think "My Songs" would have any traction at all on pop radio, but it's now their biggest hit on the Pop Songs chart since "Thnks fr th Mmrs"
― some dude, Friday, 12 April 2013 03:14 (thirteen years ago)
this record sounds super great on big speakers
― maura, Friday, 12 April 2013 05:39 (thirteen years ago)
The day FOB dropped the album stream, I listened to it about three times consecutively during work. And later, almost home, the cars were jammed trying to exit my subway stop parking lot. And my auto is non-mobile for for minutes, like, this really sucks.. but suddenly the local pop radio station here segued their rush-hour dance party into "My Songs," and it was the best moment ever. We were all so stuck in this new summer heat, and I rolled my windows down and turned it way up--the moment in the video where everyone says fk it and leaves their cars to party with it...
Despite the radio broadcast it did sound great out of the car speakers. I have so much love for this album already. I love all of the hopeless prose, there are some great lines on this one.

for
― mox twelve, Friday, 12 April 2013 06:52 (thirteen years ago)
is a real boy is the besssst, and though they've never equaled it in defense of the genre is at least a fun mess. their last record kinda sucked.
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 12 April 2013 15:00 (thirteen years ago)
Happy for ILM to take me by the hand and lead me into the light on this issue.
― Tim F, Friday, 12 April 2013 15:17 (thirteen years ago)
i think "alive with the glory of love" is possibly the greatest emo song ever recorded but i don't the rest of the album quite matches up
― Mordy, Friday, 12 April 2013 15:18 (thirteen years ago)
that song
yes
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 12 April 2013 15:21 (thirteen years ago)
okay yeah but the rest of the album nearly matches up
"spidersong" and "every man has a molly" and "yellow cat/red cat" which is incidentally an incredible slow burn
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 12 April 2013 15:24 (thirteen years ago)
Do I need to be checking out Brand New and Saves The Day also
― Tim F, Friday, 12 April 2013 15:38 (thirteen years ago)
duh
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Friday, 12 April 2013 15:39 (thirteen years ago)
Best Saves the Day albums are Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are, imo.
― how's life, Friday, 12 April 2013 15:44 (thirteen years ago)
idk actually bc neither brand new or saves the day "crossover" exactly. like, brand new is pretty uniformly grim, and saves the day are amazing but extremely entrenched in pop-punk and emo traditions until in reverie where they decide to sound like weezer (and it's their best record imo but i'm alone in that)
one thing i'd recommend actually is taking back sunday's louder now, which wouldn't be on a lot of Best Emo Crossover lists but is a crucial record in that it creates a lot of the space that infinity on high would expand on the next year. this may be a false narrative but it's kind of how i experienced it
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:16 (thirteen years ago)
like, produced by eric valentine, sounds like a million bucks, released within the time "sugar we're going down" and "i write sings not tragedies" became massive on radio
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:18 (thirteen years ago)
déjà entendu is alltime as is Thursdays war all the time. When I get home ill look thru my emo albums for other reccs
― Mordy, Friday, 12 April 2013 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
oh sweet jesus i leave tim alone for 5 minutes
― r|t|c, Friday, 12 April 2013 17:11 (thirteen years ago)
haha don't worry I'm listening to Trick Daddy at the moment.
― Tim F, Friday, 12 April 2013 21:27 (thirteen years ago)
emo in the wind
― Spottie_Ottie_Dope, Friday, 12 April 2013 21:39 (thirteen years ago)

― r|t|c, Friday, 12 April 2013 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Friday, 12 April 2013 23:58 (thirteen years ago)
btw the first two panic at the disco records are essential tim even though they don't feature trick daddy
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Saturday, 13 April 2013 00:00 (thirteen years ago)
okay i'm on it.
Maybe once i've started collating these I will start a 'Tim listens to emo-crossover' thread.
― Tim F, Saturday, 13 April 2013 00:32 (thirteen years ago)
nine in the afternoon was awesome too re panic!
― Mordy, Saturday, 13 April 2013 00:35 (thirteen years ago)
"death valley" was the only song i was sort of indifferent toward and now it's enormous
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 18:15 (thirteen years ago)
omg @ courtney
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:30 (thirteen years ago)
i like how it sounds like she's doing the token Pete screamo rant of the album
― HOOSTEENA/The Steens of God (some dude), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:33 (thirteen years ago)
The first two tracks have grown on me but so far, this does not click with me anywhere near as much as Folie a Deux. No "Disloyal Order" or "Coffee's for Closers" here. (Admittedly, Folie took a little while to grow on me too.)
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:34 (thirteen years ago)
that album was super immediate for me. happy to give this one time, though.
― HOOSTEENA/The Steens of God (some dude), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:35 (thirteen years ago)

it kinda reminds me of the distorted PA shouting off of danger days
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:36 (thirteen years ago)
This album kinda reminds me of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals, in a good way.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:44 (thirteen years ago)
the drum outro on 'young volcanoes' makes me wish that fall out boy would cover 'monk chant' ... the thought of which is exploding my brain
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:45 (thirteen years ago)
I missed out on the brief emo canon tangent above, but I would nominate Midtown's debut as a dark horse candidate
― anonanon, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 22:57 (thirteen years ago)
OK, I'm pretty hooked right now. "Young Volcanoes" is the only one I skip. "Alone Together" is pretty great. I'm not sure which R&B artist it reminds me of.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Wednesday, 17 April 2013 23:31 (thirteen years ago)
"Alone Together" is pretty great but WTF at skipping "Young Volcanoes".
― Tim F, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 23:36 (thirteen years ago)
yeah flagged u for that sund4r wtf
