Actually I've been so intensely reminded of my love of both bands this week that I suddenly feel inspired to hear all the emo-crossover I never checked out before (Say Anything etc.)

oh man Say Anything Is A Real Boy is still my fav major label emo album of them all

yeah it should be the worst thing ever but it rules so hard

didn't think "My Songs" would have any traction at all on pop radio, but it's now their biggest hit on the Pop Songs chart since "Thnks fr th Mmrs"

The day FOB dropped the album stream, I listened to it about three times consecutively during work. And later, almost home, the cars were jammed trying to exit my subway stop parking lot. And my auto is non-mobile for for minutes, like, this really sucks.. but suddenly the local pop radio station here segued their rush-hour dance party into "My Songs," and it was the best moment ever. We were all so stuck in this new summer heat, and I rolled my windows down and turned it way up--the moment in the video where everyone says fk it and leaves their cars to party with it...

Despite the radio broadcast it did sound great out of the car speakers. I have so much love for this album already. I love all of the hopeless prose, there are some great lines on this one.

Happy for ILM to take me by the hand and lead me into the light on this issue.

okay yeah but the rest of the album nearly matches up

"spidersong" and "every man has a molly" and "yellow cat/red cat" which is incidentally an incredible slow burn

Best Saves the Day albums are Through Being Cool and Stay What You Are, imo.

idk actually bc neither brand new or saves the day "crossover" exactly. like, brand new is pretty uniformly grim, and saves the day are amazing but extremely entrenched in pop-punk and emo traditions until in reverie where they decide to sound like weezer (and it's their best record imo but i'm alone in that)

one thing i'd recommend actually is taking back sunday's louder now, which wouldn't be on a lot of Best Emo Crossover lists but is a crucial record in that it creates a lot of the space that infinity on high would expand on the next year. this may be a false narrative but it's kind of how i experienced it

like, produced by eric valentine, sounds like a million bucks, released within the time "sugar we're going down" and "i write sings not tragedies" became massive on radio

déjà entendu is alltime as is Thursdays war all the time. When I get home ill look thru my emo albums for other reccs

The first two tracks have grown on me but so far, this does not click with me anywhere near as much as Folie a Deux. No "Disloyal Order" or "Coffee's for Closers" here. (Admittedly, Folie took a little while to grow on me too.)

This album kinda reminds me of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals, in a good way.

the drum outro on 'young volcanoes' makes me wish that fall out boy would cover 'monk chant' ... the thought of which is exploding my brain

I missed out on the brief emo canon tangent above, but I would nominate Midtown's debut as a dark horse candidate

OK, I'm pretty hooked right now. "Young Volcanoes" is the only one I skip. "Alone Together" is pretty great. I'm not sure which R&B artist it reminds me of.
