Fetchboy, Thursday, 11 April 2013 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

I love how he's all "I'll play on every record I produce, no matter how many guitarists they have." Well, duh. Who's gonna turn down a Nile Rodgers cameo?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 11 April 2013 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

not even one mention of the eagles. i don't know what to think anymore.

ya. I like how he calls them 'the robots', no breaking the gimmick for him.

lol at Nile's whole new-age management speak vocabulary for the different parts of a song/linear journey

schlump, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:16 (thirteen years ago)

I like non-recurring event. Think I'll need to use that one to talk about my music now.

Moodles, Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

"my music is a non-recurring event..."

"thank god!"

zero dark (s1ocki), Thursday, 11 April 2013 22:53 (thirteen years ago)

is there ANY way this lives up to the hype? i'm not gonna lie, "get lucky" sounds incredible

bish (bosch), don't kill my vibe (rennavate), Friday, 12 April 2013 15:44 (thirteen years ago)

Worried I'm just going to skip that track when the album actually comes out.

Put on random. Get Mexican lucky.

cacao nibs (Eric H.), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

This is like an ILM poll rollout except the suspense is not enjoyable... jeez release the thing!!

Everybody wants a piece of the (Viceroy), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

You guys got me, the hype worked. Now let me go buy the album!

Everybody wants a piece of the (Viceroy), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

this is way more enjoyable than waiting for an ilm poll.

zero dark (s1ocki), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:12 (thirteen years ago)

We could complete an ILM ballot poll on this album before the album arrives to fill time.

cacao nibs (Eric H.), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:15 (thirteen years ago)

POLL THREAD: what will be the best song on random access memories?

POLL OPTIONS:

  • "get lucky"
  • some other song

ְ֮֠֓֟֬֩ (gr8080), Friday, 12 April 2013 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

+1 -- this almost feels like Derek Taylor's campaign for Smile back in 1967, which promised to change the face of pop music. We all know how that turned out -- and as much as I'm a fan, I'm not convinced these guys have Brian Wilson's chops (tho they do pick great collaborators/samples).

What's it going to take for this to live up to the hype?

1. Some connection to their greatest moments (as indicated by the "Get Lucky" clips) but not so much that it's Discovery 2.0),

2. Somewhat related, development. Even if people didn't like Human After All or Tron Legacy, you at least had to acknowledge that they weren't just trading on past glories. As good as it sounds, this is what is potentially worrying about "Get Lucky."

3. Great songs. A differentiator for DP has been tunes -- "Digital Love," "Human After All," "One More Time," "Face to Face," etc. It makes them transcend into a pop act and appeal to a really wide variety of audiences.

What else?

hmmm i never thought about it that way, but i guess it would be good if this album had good music on it

zero dark (s1ocki), Friday, 12 April 2013 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

GET FUNKY!

Serioulsy, there is no way this album can dissappoint, with Moroder, Edwards and Rodgers on board. Not after the all too human error that was 'Human After All'. This will fucking rule and I cannot wait.

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 12 April 2013 22:21 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, Pharrell sounds really good on this! This album is going to be too big to fail. Moroder!!!

Cousin Slappy, Saturday, 13 April 2013 05:45 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah he really does. All these teasers and hype is just totally working on me, I can't remember the last time I was this excited about an album.

cool so maybe now people can quit with "this album will rule except for pharrell because he sux"

billstevejim, Saturday, 13 April 2013 06:34 (thirteen years ago)

they should just continue unveiling the album 30 seconds at a time once a month forever

Chris S, Saturday, 13 April 2013 07:25 (thirteen years ago)

pretty sharp promotional move there. i mean, it seems kinda like an obvious thing to do in retrospect, but at the same time, i can't remember anyone running a big-ass ad in the middle of the biggest-ass festival and all those camera phones and twitterererers and whatnot. i dunno...i like it.

Yeah this is exactly what I thought too.

Wonder when we can actually hear and buy the whole song? I kind of need it right now.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 13 April 2013 08:58 (thirteen years ago)

rumoured for monday
