tbh i have no real expectations for a new terry album, so i'd actually prefer a longer record where he just dumps out everything he's working on so i can pick and choose my own favorites

k3vin k., Friday, 5 April 2013 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

you guys don't want to hear a double-disc version of this album, i promise

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 21:09 (thirteen years ago)

ha ha
ty for your rundown jordan. i am still really psyched for this, sad there is no kells on it though.

do you have any ontological observations about the real life dream. i just read a review of the listening session that made dream & timbaland sound like the odd couple.

schlump, Friday, 5 April 2013 21:13 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i was not at the one where tim showed up

he opened up a little bit towards the end of ours but it was just a few of us so it was pretty subdued. he's funny though.

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

What's your main objection to the songs you didn't immediately like, j0rdan?

longneck, Friday, 5 April 2013 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

on some it sounded like he was fighting the songs. like the one with kelly rowland gets really loud for the chorus in an awkward/unorganic way. there was another one like that too.

also on some the songwriting was just kinda weak

but these things are not a great way to evaluate music!

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 23:00 (thirteen years ago)

you just sat down and listened to the album start to finish with him and some critics?

he drives you around in his car & you both plug in headsets to the kind of walkmans that have two headphone outs

schlump, Friday, 5 April 2013 23:25 (thirteen years ago)

and then you have sex?

the album isn't ordered yet, the transitions haven't been put in & there are some guest vocals still to be mixed (so we didn't hear them)

longneck, Monday, 8 April 2013 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 April 2013 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

j0rdan STOP USING THE WORD "BANGER" TO DESCRIBE SONGS THAT ARE NOT UPTEMPO

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:10 (thirteen years ago)

i feel like this bangs

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 April 2013 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Monday, 8 April 2013 22:11 (thirteen years ago)

i'm reserving full judgment til i hear how it plays out over the course of an album proper

but this is like one of those midtempo slinkers like sex intelligent or she needs my love that have never been among my favorite terius songs, but have never been among my least favorite terius songs either

乒乓, Monday, 8 April 2013 22:14 (thirteen years ago)

kevin he is not saying this song is a sausage

sad lol btw ;_;

乒乓, Monday, 8 April 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)

is lex living in the same post-"One in a Million" world as the rest of us?

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

"one in a million" is not a banger

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

it's like calling "crazy in love" a ballad, it's just blatantly the wrong word

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

whoa now

乒乓, Monday, 8 April 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

oh nm i misread you, i thought you were saying crazy in love was NOT a sausage

乒乓, Monday, 8 April 2013 22:30 (thirteen years ago)

A big part of "One in a Million"'s innovation was that it was a ballad that was also a club song.

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:40 (thirteen years ago)

"I think when "If Your Girl Only Knew" first came out, people kinda said, Oh, she got a new sound. But then when "One in a Million" came out, the beat and the melody were so different from anything. I was in a club one night, the DJ took it back TEN TIMES, no lie. And this was in the middle of him playing, like, Biggie records and Tupac records, and here goes "One in a Million" in the middle of all this street rap! That's when I said, OK, this is something different--we are going somewhere else, we are kind of switching the sound. "

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

i had literally no idea that "one in a million" was a game changer, why not continue explaining it to me rev

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

i know you know that, my point is just that they haven't been exclusive categories at any time since

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Monday, 8 April 2013 22:57 (thirteen years ago)

i know that as well, my point was that using "banger" as synonymous with "good song" is just a failure of vocabulary that renders the word meaningless

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Monday, 8 April 2013 23:11 (thirteen years ago)

I haven't heard the song in question yet so no specific comment there but if it goes off in the club it qualifies as a banger to me

sandra dayo connor (The Reverend), Monday, 8 April 2013 23:33 (thirteen years ago)

WOW this is good

i do use these simultaneously from time to time but this song sounds like a "banger" to me even if it's nto up tempo... it's pretty loud, for instance

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 9 April 2013 01:29 (thirteen years ago)

"IV play" feels like vintage terius to me in that it has like four diff hooks, the funny thing is that the main chorus is by far the least memorable of them all

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 April 2013 03:08 (thirteen years ago)

it's so hilarious to me that he wrote a song about 12 Play and then flipped the title to reduce the cleverness of it

easily the best (or least underwhelming?) of all his recent songs though imo

some dude, Thursday, 11 April 2013 03:17 (thirteen years ago)

the verses very 'memoirs'-era imo

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 April 2013 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

it's good but i prefer the nu-FILA "slow it down" to it, to me that's more what dream's all about

k3vin k., Thursday, 11 April 2013 03:25 (thirteen years ago)

i still think the songwriting on that is pretty weak, but yeah this is a pretty overt stylistic exercise

J0rdan S., Thursday, 11 April 2013 03:26 (thirteen years ago)

ima keep it real witchu baby you bayyyyad
