Would def vote in an Elton poll, though my ballot sold contain nothing post '76 or so.

*would

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

balls, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

Put me down for Elton John at #79, then!

Why has no one signed up for an Elton John poll?

why haven't you? ;)

xpost -- that is a little surprising! It would be like the Bowie poll for me -- can anything crack the great 70s run?

Our long national nightmare (of 7 weeks) is over!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

Wait, that's not even 7 weeks, is it? More like 5.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

Of course, now it's not even going to happen until xmas 2014.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

i'm guessing when it came time to actually make my ballot that it might end up being all 70s stuff but there's definitely some post-76 stuff in the running.

balls, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:21 (thirteen years ago)

Would definitely throw a few votes to the bigger 80s/90s Elton songs. Thanks to emilys I have had "If love was just a circus YOU'D BE A CLOWN BY NOW" stuck in my head for the past six months. Also: Elton John, "Circle of Life" - Classic Or Dud?

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:27 (thirteen years ago)

Put me down for Elton John at #79, then!

― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 6:07 PM (39 minutes ago)

Consider yourself added -- it'll show up on the next full list. Christmas 2014 might be optimistic!

The Complete Afterbirth of the Cool (WilliamC), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:50 (thirteen years ago)

The folder named "images for PF poll" has over 400 pics in it. Going somewhat overboard on this...

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 4 April 2013 04:06 (thirteen years ago)

i feel confident that your poll will RULE

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 April 2013 04:12 (thirteen years ago)

If I may break up this sausagefest, can we get a poke of the aptly named Nasty, Brutish & Short for the PJ poll?

Vol. 3: The Life & Times of E. "Boom" Carter (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 4 April 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)

Hi, I've been ill and away from computers for a bit - is it time to set up a voting thread?

the company of wome (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:22 (thirteen years ago)

I say go for it, because The Fall voting deadline was extended for a crazy long time and I don't care about it and I want to care about PJ Harvey!

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

The Fall deadline was amended to April 14, so it's not as crazy long as it was.

cwkiii, Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:36 (thirteen years ago)

That's still crazy long. 10 days from now. Most voting spans are 10 days in total.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:42 (thirteen years ago)

I'll sort something out, but make the deadline after the Fall deadline.

the company of wome (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:45 (thirteen years ago)

dunno why the voting deadlines would need to be uniformly short tbh

the drummer for gay Daddy Yankee (some dude), Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

Because a billion polls are waiting.

NB&S, you should definitely start your thread when it feels right, but I get irritated when one of these polls takes an extraordinarily long amount of time and gums up the works.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:51 (thirteen years ago)

i could see having concurrent polls if one is an artist w/ a huge, daunting discog - miles, dylan, the fall - and the other is an artist w/ more digestible discog eg pj harvey. i can see why someone would need weeks to put together a ballot for the former (or months even really) vs being able to throw something together in a couple of days for the latter. i think as long as the rollouts don't happen at the same time and threaten to overshadow each other it should work out fine.

balls, Thursday, 4 April 2013 16:54 (thirteen years ago)

the whole endeavor of people coordinating their polls here is pretty cool and i think in a weird way one of the more successful attempts at treating ILM as an actual community, and i get that it can be a little annoying when the trains don't run on time, but i don't really see the bum's rush as necessary. most of us have been here for 5-10 years, probably will be here for a while, i'm looking forward to running and/or participating in a lot of the planned polls but it honestly makes zero difference to me if we do any one of them next week or next year or in 2018.

The Complete Afterbirth of the Cool (WilliamC), Thursday, 4 April 2013 17:11 (thirteen years ago)

was there ever going to be a 'musical/music films poll' or did i dream that?

the current 'Top 100 music movies of all time' cover feature in MOJO has me kinda psyched.

piscesx, Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:15 (thirteen years ago)

That'd be a good one, shift it across to ILE, some of the film crew are looking for a poll to take part in.

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:22 (thirteen years ago)

That would def be preferable to top romances.

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

Tho obv Spinal Tap wins over, say, The Band Wagon.

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

yeah I like that idea

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

The clusterfuck and screaming at the thought of musicals with storylines being polled together with concert films is appealing.

The Complete Afterbirth of the Cool (WilliamC), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:30 (thirteen years ago)

I think the two things fit together fairly naturally, but I'm not a film crew'er.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:32 (thirteen years ago)

yeah potential for shitfits is amazing

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:33 (thirteen years ago)

It's possible I'm just imagining Morbs' "I'm not voting in this bullshit" response.

The Complete Afterbirth of the Cool (WilliamC), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:34 (thirteen years ago)

he's a fan of certain musicals iirc

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:36 (thirteen years ago)

Would this be limited to concerts and musicals, or would music-based documentaries also be eligible?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 4 April 2013 18:59 (thirteen years ago)

1776 4 lyfe

the dubious bros. (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 4 April 2013 19:11 (thirteen years ago)

man if you poll concert films and rock docs w/ actual musicals i will totally loudly be in the morbs camp. the thought of spinal tap winning that thing is reason enough to scuttle the idea imo.

balls, Thursday, 4 April 2013 19:16 (thirteen years ago)

Spinal Tap is a bad example. That movie is as consciously crafted as Singin in the Rain.

alternately mean and handsy (Eric H.), Thursday, 4 April 2013 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

I say, throw 'em all together, but maybe with the one restriction that the film should have had a theatrical run (e.g., no home-video-only concerts/docs).

Pope Frank is the messenger of your doom (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 4 April 2013 19:22 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i'd buy it as 'a musical' more than rattle and hum (or even purple rain) but still gimme a break. setting a rule of 'narrative based' and 'music composed specifically for this narrative whether originating on stage or screen' would eliminate some dude managing to get that cameron crowe pearl jam doc in the top ten but would also eliminate singin in the rain and all that jazz among many others.

balls, Thursday, 4 April 2013 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

How about 'dramatic narrative with music' as a definition. I for one would definitely want to be voting for Spinal Tap and Ladies & Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains as well as more traditional musicals. It wouldn't be as much fun without a certain amount of mixture, but I'm not down with documentaries being in there too.
