kendrick's making himself more ubiquitous on features than it really seemed like he would. he's doing the new miguel single, he's on the new 50 single (which is actually great) and then this chirs brown thing

he's also touring with steve aoki right now (?)

i'd like to hear kendrick on more features (CB apart), one of the most underrated aspects of GKMC was the way he played with his voice so effectively and the variety of vocal modes he employed

I understand the business plan, I just think it sucks that apparently all roads to black musical success lead through Chris Brown

i don't necessarily like all his vocal approaches, i like that he has a variety of them and hopefully this would make him a good or at least more thoughtful guest rapper

yeah i'd imagined similar (and the miguel seems like it'd be an especially sympathetic fit) but from what i've encountered he is a weirdly horrible guest rapper, too solipsistic for purpose basically

DIH DIH (whether annoying or not) is actually the only good bit of his probs verse just by virtue of being memorable - the rest drones past, flat and complicated

kendrick on the "r.i.p." remix is cool, works well on a dj mustard beat

yeah his "fuckin problems" verse has a distinct air of "wait shit i didn't realize this was gonna be a massive hit"

just relistened to "fuckin' problems" and yeah kendrick is somehow almost completely unmemorable and rote

it's a hit?! it's really not a great song

yeah it's basically one of the 5 biggest rap songs of the last few months

Idk, it just always felt so... manufactured to me. There's no chemistry between anyone involved and the hook sounds like a machine wrote it. Not denying its general catchiness though.

i dunno i will give some credit to the OVO lead single factory that the songs they hand to various artists feel somewhat crafted for them -- it sounds enough like an A$AP Rocky song that it makes sense as his single in ways it wouldn't if that beat had been for a Meek Mill single or a French Montana single or something. the seams do show, though, and i dunno why 2 Chainz doesn't have a verse.

kendrick's solipsism best shown in how polite and reserved his 'beast!' at the end of his problems verse is, as if he hadn't listened to the other two previously. he says it so daintily

lol the way everyone on that song says "BEAST!" after a whatever verse is easily the worst thing about it

also one of the funniest things about Kendrick on the Lonely Island song was him doing that

apparently the 'beast!' thing is an asap catchphrase? it's been easy to not follow his career
