i was thinking of a fall out boy-ish poll thread title but couldn't think of anything besides puns involving pole dancing

haha it's a shame FOB didn't announce the tracklist for this well ahead of the release date, could've been a good ILX pre-covers project

there is the offish "all of the lights" remix w/ big sean, which i assume still has elton's piano in the mix although who knows

I kinda dug "My Songs..." so I'm disappointed "The Phoenix" sounds like what I expected (which makes it a comeback after all, I guess).

"My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark" doesn't sound all that great on the radio. The goofiness in the chorus stopped being funny somewhere around the 3rd listen, and nothing else in this song has grown into anything especially rewarding.

what they do with the instrumental there is pretty cool imo i like it a lot more than the OG track

save for the "trap" drums

i'm kind of getting emotional over the fact that pete wrote the lyric "blood brothers in desperation"

"Young Volcanoes" is pretty great, although it kinda confirms my suspicion that they've spent the last year stewing with Ruess envy

the rest of the album didn't sound very much like fun. to me

basically it sounds like the album that should have come after 'infinity on high'... it almost feels intentionally corrective to me

folie a deux is kind of a warm, gloopy mess that i love... these songs sound much sharper

yeah i'm sure the album sounds like Fall Out Boy, i just kinda lolled at the hammy campfire singalong of "we are [like] young [volcanoes]"

i kind of see from under the cork tree and folie a deux being lineal descendants, linking infinity on high and this new one together would make some kind of symmetrical sense

"Alone Together" first semi-dud imo, children chorus makes it worse not better, but even that sounds so glossy and huge and explosive that it's easy to forgive the retreading. "Phoenix" so insanely good.

i basically pretend this album starts at "alone together" which is prob the most fall out boy thing on here
