It's so much fun to dive into the discography of an unfamiliar artist! So far, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen have been the biggest eyeopeners for me (and I didn't even vote in the Bruce poll!) Just try it out some day, for example with the Sonic Youth poll - or are you a fan already? :)

ArchCarrier, Thursday, 28 March 2013 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

leee adores Sonic Youth :)

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 28 March 2013 16:12 (thirteen years ago)

ILM's Now For Something Completely Different... 70s Album Poll Results! Top 100 Countdown! (Part 2) finishes today.
Just started the Top 20.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 28 March 2013 17:08 (thirteen years ago)

AG keeps a spreadsheet too, apparently. (PS he's being sarcastic.)

Leeena Dunham (Leee), Friday, 29 March 2013 01:11 (thirteen years ago)

ArchCarrier, I'll switch 36/37 next time I post the list.

It seemed like a good and lolworthy idea at the time, but I think I'm going to bow out of the Ween poll. If anybody wants to run it and keep it in the lineup at that spot, you can claim it, or I can condense the list by one.

omg pink floyd is getting closer! :D :D :D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 16:07 (thirteen years ago)

I would like to float the idea of a Hendrix poll, but with not me running it because I haven't the faintest idea how.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 16:09 (thirteen years ago)

It's pretty easy, but you do have to take an eight-week online course beforehand.

clemenza, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 16:57 (thirteen years ago)

lol

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 17:02 (thirteen years ago)

have we seriously not done a hendrix poll yet? what the hell is wrong with ilm?

how's life, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

EXACTLY

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 2 April 2013 22:27 (thirteen years ago)

Look I think we've got better things to poll than Jimi, like for example another Autechre poll.

Leeena Dunham (Leee), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 01:58 (thirteen years ago)

trollololol :)

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

Jimi poll would definitely be fun but given the size of the catalog (and how much of it is posthumous stuff in a hundred different versions of varying quality) it's not as much of a no-brainer as a lot of others. might need some kind of unique format.

some dude, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:06 (thirteen years ago)

ya i agree

oh also a hoy hoy doesn't post anymore but someone should definitely still do motown singles

flopson, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:10 (thirteen years ago)

i just assumed hoy was taking a break as sometimes seems to, has he flat out stopt? that's a shame, good dude

some dude, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:15 (thirteen years ago)

oh idk, just hasn't posted in a few months

flopson, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:19 (thirteen years ago)

whoa. costello/roxyferry/floyd/dan/dylan run is going to be way too many hours on ilm for me.

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:52 (thirteen years ago)

I'm already doing my homework for the Motown one.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:55 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah I really hope someone can pick it up if AHH can't run it.

bananas are my preference (seandalai), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:58 (thirteen years ago)

Wait, there's a chance it might not happen? Not that I mind listening to all this stuff, of course, but it is A LOT of material.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 02:59 (thirteen years ago)

Somebody will pick that one up if AHH can't do it, I'm sure.

The Complete Afterbirth of the Cool (WilliamC), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 03:14 (thirteen years ago)

In the direst of circumstances I could run a Stax vs Motown face-off.

bananas are my preference (seandalai), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 03:20 (thirteen years ago)

Missing:
Billy Joel
Leonard Cohen

cougars and sneezers (Eazy), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 03:26 (thirteen years ago)

I floated a Billy Joel poll idea a while ago on some thread, couldn't tell if there'd be enough interest. The radio button poll of Greatest Hits I & II produced a great discussion tho.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 12:29 (thirteen years ago)

Would vote in a Joel poll.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 13:18 (thirteen years ago)

me too!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 15:45 (thirteen years ago)

I could swear you guys just did a Billy Joel poll.

how's life, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:26 (thirteen years ago)

Oh nevermind, I was thinking of the Boss.

how's life, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

zing!

Mordy, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

not a zing! they're both in my blind spots though.

how's life, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

like, boring old man music i couldn't pay attention to if you paid me.

how's life, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:50 (thirteen years ago)

The weird thing is I've always felt this way about Bruce but adore Joel. And I recognize that conventional wisdom would insist that that is completely backwards. But I grew up on Joel and no apologizing.

a radio-button poll might be a good indicator

if not, it'll just be a party of two poll again, Doc <3

― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, March 20, 2012 12:52 PM Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

and VG's radio button poll got... 81 votes actually! hmmm.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:53 (thirteen years ago)

a proud day

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:54 (thirteen years ago)

and a great thread! Say Goodbye To POLLywood - Billy Joel Greatest Hits Volume I & Volume II, THE POLL

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

billy joel and elton john are both missing. maybe that could/should be combined somehow.

fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 19:49 (thirteen years ago)

That's piano racist!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 19:50 (thirteen years ago)

I'd be tempted to conduct an Elton poll, but it's so far off into the future now that I'm not in a rush to claim it.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 19:52 (thirteen years ago)

hey, it's not like i proposed a billy joel/warren zevon poll. that would be piano racist!

fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 19:54 (thirteen years ago)

elton poll would be amazing imo and jf should def own it ;-)

inste grammophon (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 20:23 (thirteen years ago)

WE NEED YOU JF

Would def vote in an Elton poll, though my ballot sold contain nothing post '76 or so.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

*would

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 3 April 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

would also vote in an elton poll

balls, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

Put me down for Elton John at #79, then!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:07 (thirteen years ago)

FEVER! FEVER! FEVER!

Why has no one signed up for an Elton John poll?

why haven't you? ;)

xpost -- that is a little surprising! It would be like the Bowie poll for me -- can anything crack the great 70s run?

Our long national nightmare (of 7 weeks) is over!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:15 (thirteen years ago)

Wait, that's not even 7 weeks, is it? More like 5.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 23:16 (thirteen years ago)

Of course, now it's not even going to happen until xmas 2014.
