Also, way more females than males in attendance, and most looked like they hadn't been to an indie club before. Led me to believe that he must be getting a huge MySpace/MTVU push.

calvin harris - scotland's disgrace pt. 48.
carl cox is STILL massive.
― stirmonster, Monday, 24 September 2007 07:46 (eighteen years ago)
Are there any mega-big name 90s DJs who aren't still massive? It's like they can go out of fashion as much as they want and still draw big crowds.
― Matt DC, Monday, 24 September 2007 08:35 (eighteen years ago)
CALVIN HARRIS AND THE MITCHELL BROTHERS TOGETHER ON ONE TRACK. THE BEST OF BRITISH DANCE MEETS THE BEST OF BRITISH URBAN. HOW CAN THEY FIT SO MUCH NON-IRRITATING TALENT ON ONE SONG? I HAVE NO IDEA.

ok
1. playing in a real band? big whup, what fucken difference does it make? I think almost anybody would rather hear a good DJ set than a shit band
2. he is a poor imitation of mylo, who is a poor imitation of Les Rythmes Digitales
3. he jumped on the electro/80s revival bandwagon at least 5 years too late
4. he is a stupid twat

a bunch of my friends are really digging this guy, but i gave the album a spin and was thoroughly unimpressed. it's getting massive college radio play. maybe some good remixes would make it more palatable.
― Emily Bjurnhjam, Saturday, 29 September 2007 00:54 (eighteen years ago)
emily, play your friends "darkdancer" by Les Rythmes Digitales from 1999.

just read this on wikipedia about the "Acceptable in the 80s" video:
The music video features many references of the time; the stereotypical large hairstyles, bright dayglo colours and bizarrely, scientists dissecting what appears to be an otter, products of which are used by a hair stylist, TV chef, and to heal a grazed knee. The video is directed by Woof Wan-Bau.
this could be a number of things I suppose; is he saying that BACK THEN animal testing and vivisection were (more) acceptable, that there wasn't as much environmental consciousness as today? I love it that someone called Woof Wan-Bau exists.
― Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 12:08 (eighteen years ago)
I think it was more that people just hated otters in the 80s, as they were associated with the (then) embarrassing 70s (Tarka The Otter, Ring Of Bright Water etc.)
― Alba, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)
(actually Ring Of Bright Water came out in 1969, but we all know the 70s began in 1968)
― Alba, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)
we have some songs of his on the work ipod, one where he is singing about "electro man" is a mix of the "electro boy" song from the mighty boosh and that one belle & sebastian dance track, sung by the dude from david devant and his spirit wife. really really bad.

The dance musician, from Dumfries, in the south of Scotland, was returning to the UK from America when the bag containing his laptop went missing.
A spokeswoman for his record company confirmed it contained the only copy of work on Mr Harris' second album.
His first release - I Created Disco - was a top 10 hit and carried the debut single Acceptable in the 80s.
The album's success led to him working with the likes of Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kylie Minogue, for whom he wrote the forthcoming single In My Arms in his bedroom on a 15-year-old computer.
A spokeswoman for Columbia Records confirmed that the lost laptop contained several new songs the DJ and musician had been working on.
"He has lost the only copy of the new album," she said.
"It is a big cause for concern - months of work have gone into that."
She said it would not affect his live performances as they did not involve the use of the laptop.
However, it could set back work on a new album for some time.
"They have offered about £750 in compensation," said the spokeswoman.
"You can't really put a price on something like a new record."

Oh no that sucks! "Acceptable in the 80s" was pretty good but "The Girls" had the girls going wild! That song is hot.
I never checked the full album to be honest but I can't believe he would keep his entire new one on just one laptop. Way to suck, British Airways!
― Rob Threezy, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:34 (eighteen years ago)
This is totally a dog-ate-my-homework story, and is Harris's excuse for not yet having churned out the follow up Columbia is no doubt pestering him for so they can rush release it before everyone gets (even more) sick of him.
― JimD, Thursday, 3 April 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)
yeah as much as i would like this to be true, what kind of mongtard doesn't back that shit up?

of course he has another copy. its just a load of PR gumph aint it.

― DJ Mencap, Friday, 4 April 2008 14:04 (eighteen years ago)
Perhaps he did a song with Naomi Campbell and she wasn't too keen on it.
― Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 4 April 2008 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

Well, this song with Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris, it's quite good.
― zeus, Wednesday, 11 June 2008 10:32 (seventeen years ago)
it's awful. the way the bassline so wants to be a classic bounce, and fails by so much, makes me cringe.

that deadmau5 dub injects some life into his 'merrymaking' track which is one of those songs that has been completely overshadowed by the remix.

― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:01 (seventeen years ago)

I disagree. Dizzee's vocal is phoned in, he switches between generic "electro" and generic "Indian" music in a way that just sounds lazily tacked-together, his own vocal is a cringe-worthy... it sucks, basically.
― Bodrick III, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 21:07 (seventeen years ago)
