I'd say I'm intimately familiar with only maybe a third of Miles' ouevre (specifically from Kind of Blue > "retirement" and even there there are big gaps) but I'll probably vote.

I hope one day i'll get used to ilxor enough to run a Wu or B&S poll.

I think there are only about a dozen of these on the remainder of the list where I know enough/have enough interest to cast a vote. But three involve Dylan, CCR, and Steely Dan, so that's enough for me. Trying to imagine how mammoth the Dylan thread will be.

Does "extreme metal" basically mean death, black, and doom? (Grindcore?)

It's my understanding that extreme metal refers to Europe, the band that did "The Final Countdown."

A couple of the polls where I'm totally clueless and won't be voting, I'm most interested in the results. (Jay-Z, Chic Org)

Jay-Z and Chic (and the Pixies, and XTC, and a few others) fall into a group where there are one or two well-known songs that I completely love, after which I'm stuck. And I'm too lazy and too uncurious to do all the listening that would be required to scrape together a Top 10. But, ditto, I follow the threads.

yes. Grind/heavy thrash and stuff counts too but not regular thrash like Metallica or Pantera. It has to be... extreme!

I have a spreadsheet question for Finefinemusic if she checks this thread, or for anybody who knows spreadsheets.

I have my Miles Davis track results, and there are a few spots where my Points column has ties between 2 songs, and the order of the two spots is determined by alphabetizing the song names. Can I get this crazy contraption to ignore that and consider # of Votes as the first tiebreaker, and Number of #1 Votes as the 2nd tiebreaker?

I can just make notes to roll out the results in the correct order if that can't be done.

Can I express my excitement at the upcoming PJ and Cocteaus polls?

But I'm already doing my homework for PJ Harvey and I'm really looking forward to the Cocteaus and New Order, two bands I should know more about than I do now.

Archie, that's an interesting approach, tbh, and one I wish I had time to do for artists with which I'm not already familiar. IOW, I only take part and even follow polls for artists of whom I'm already a fan.

It's so much fun to dive into the discography of an unfamiliar artist! So far, Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen have been the biggest eyeopeners for me (and I didn't even vote in the Bruce poll!) Just try it out some day, for example with the Sonic Youth poll - or are you a fan already? :)

I would like to float the idea of a Hendrix poll, but with not me running it because I haven't the faintest idea how.
