Hmm. Well I've not tried that. Will do, thanks.

Just doing my 'civic' duty and reporting that I received my record today! (California)
It is flawless.
Sorry to hear about those who received theirs in less optimal conditions.

Oh I forgot to mention I'm in NJ, if that helps anyone in the proximity.
― Evan, Saturday, 9 March 2013 02:29 (thirteen years ago)
i know you guys would much rather they had never even bothered with this new record if they were going to be so cavalier in its mailing paraphernalia BUT can i just say, this sounds real fine, & also way more like a my bloody valentine record, on record. nice & way swampier than the digi-files.
― schlump, Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:00 (thirteen years ago)
like this is so nice
― schlump, Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:07 (thirteen years ago)
the packaging sounded better on loveless
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:14 (thirteen years ago)
The mailman came today, delivered a package (an eBay deal gone wrong, incidentally), said "hold on, I have another package for you!", walked down the street, and never came back.
Somewhere in DC a USPS guy is kicking back to Only Tomorrow, I know it.

in this koan the mailman is kevin shields
― schlump, Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:18 (thirteen years ago)
Either that or they wanted to slam the package on the curb a few more times before the final delivery
― ( ( ( ( ( ( ( (Z S), Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:18 (thirteen years ago)
Glad to hear the record sounds good, though! Can't wait to put it on the turntable when it arrives.
― ( ( ( ( ( ( ( (Z S), Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:19 (thirteen years ago)
don't worry, I'm probably going to destroy mine biking home from the office with it.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:21 (thirteen years ago)
i don't want to be that guy but the difference is srsly night & day for me. i am not a big audio person & maybe y'all had better headphones for hearing this first time around but it sounds crazy good & the slightly more outré stuff on s2 sounds way more like an actual-next-other-era-of-mbv than it did before now - has a really serene futuristic quality to it, the sustained guitar & the midi programming & the propulsive drumming. really just super rewarding first listen.
― schlump, Saturday, 9 March 2013 03:28 (thirteen years ago)
i'm just gonna sell old CDs, buy a Visa GC, and buy this thing already (mp3s). clearly it ain't happening in easily available CD format and I'm sick of listening on youtube.

Loveless and isn't anything always sounded like one glorious lump of sound on vinyl. On cd all the channels are separated out which sounds great for Dire Straits and Phil Collins but kills My Bloody Valentine.
― OutdoorFish, Saturday, 9 March 2013 11:42 (thirteen years ago)
I bought the combo intending to keep the cd and give my daughter the lp. I'll make a point to listen to the latter on her record player and assess its lumpengloriosity.

Crazy talk re: CDs as usual.
MBV sounds awesome on CD. It arrived today.

Sorry to say that I was actually rather underwhelmed by seeing them in the end.
― NWOFHM! Overlord (krakow), Sunday, 10 March 2013 09:07 (thirteen years ago)
did they play anything off m b v?
― cw, Sunday, 10 March 2013 09:43 (thirteen years ago)
krakow, I saw you taking photos on the stairs - we were on the other staircase across from you, but I didn't like to distract you.
I didn't enjoy them as much as the last time either. They did do some stuff off M B V, yes.
― ailsa, Sunday, 10 March 2013 10:49 (thirteen years ago)
Great m b v-lighting on that pic, krakow
― willem, Sunday, 10 March 2013 11:22 (thirteen years ago)
I see the setlists now include "wonder 2" as the last song (the ONE thing I wanted to see live and they didnt do it in Aus dammit). Can anyone confirm this does infact mean theyre no longer doing the holocaust note version of YMMR? Cos I was told the time I saw it was the last time they were doing it. Dropping that to fit "wonder 2" in would make sense.
― a kissed out red popemobile (Trayce), Monday, 11 March 2013 01:24 (thirteen years ago)
YMMR w/like ten minute noise part still happening, I hear
― schlump, Monday, 11 March 2013 01:26 (thirteen years ago)
Old habits die hard. Why not just a slightly longer concert. Reminds me of Dinosaur Jr. on the Rollercoaster tour. They had 45 minutes to play their stuff like the three other bands. They didn't want to drop any songs from their normal set, so they just played their songs 25% faster.
― OutdoorFish, Monday, 11 March 2013 02:19 (thirteen years ago)
I might have a spare ticket going for Tuesday - my g/f can't come :-(

We are going on Thursday; anyone else?
m b v sounds absolutely delicious on CD. Really falling for it now.
― they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 11 March 2013 09:36 (thirteen years ago)
it may be delicious on cd, it's an absolute smörgåsbord on vinyl :-p
― willem, Monday, 11 March 2013 10:15 (thirteen years ago)
I think it sounds best at fast-ripped 96kbps with glitches and snippets of Elvis singing "Hound Dog" interspersed through it.
― dog latin, Monday, 11 March 2013 10:18 (thirteen years ago)
OK, the LP just arrived here on the west coast. Looks to be in fine shape. LP sleeve is on the cheap size but I like the little cutout pouch for the CD.
― "Turkey In The Straw" coming from someplace in the clouds (Sparkle Motion), Monday, 11 March 2013 23:52 (thirteen years ago)
I prefer to transfer it to cassette and play it full blast through the datacorder I used to use to load gamrs on my Spectrum 48k

Got mine today. I was tiring a bit of the album and this has totally enlivened it again for me. Percussion really stands out, and the granular bits on Only Tomorrow are occasionally head-rushing. This is a much better album than I initially regarded.
― kelpolaris, Tuesday, 12 March 2013 04:29 (thirteen years ago)
vinyl finally showed up today. very minimal scuffs on the corners of the sleeve--not mint but not as fucked up as what some of you ended up with.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 14 March 2013 01:01 (thirteen years ago)
They were so amazing last night. The new stuff is tremendous
― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 01:12 (thirteen years ago)
Mine showed up yesterday, very minimal scuffs but fairly disappointed in the lazy design considering how much it cost.

If anyone feels hesitant to buy from the band, Soundstage Direct has started carrying the record. I've never had a problem with their shipping.

They're quite loud, aren't they?

― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 10:24 (thirteen years ago)
my experience of MBV has been the same the past couple of times:
first few songs: gah this isn't the great wall of noise i was hoping for. it's not that loud is it?hmm maybe we're standing in the wrong spot. god I wish we weren’t in such a big venue. actually is there something wrong with the sound? not very dynamic are they? i know they bury the riffs and vocals in the mix but this is ridic.
middle section: this is getting tedious. i want to feel this rattling my bones, not tickling my ears.
then i guess the sound guy turns up a big knob called "meat". you start questioning whether it's sounded like this for the whole gig or if your ears have just acclimatised to the sound. whatever. you can finally feel the bass and hear the drones blending and shifting and swirling around. they’re playing some fan favourites, things are getting heavier, oh “you made me realise” this is it, here we go :-D
never fails to amaze me that bit. i guess they can’t really keep things LOUD like the do towards the end because of health and safety and stuff.
― Crackle Box, Thursday, 14 March 2013 12:15 (thirteen years ago)
haha, that was EXACTLY my thought process, especially the "this isn't very loud and I'm right near the front" part at the beginning.
― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 12:17 (thirteen years ago)
I was worried for the Apollo itself rather than health and safety.
― they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 14 March 2013 13:39 (thirteen years ago)
did you go to the Apollo one, Nick?
― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:54 (thirteen years ago)
Or were there two? I went on Tuesday night
― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:55 (thirteen years ago)
My whole seat was shaking during YMMR on Tuesday. So glad I had 17dB professional earplugs - could hear whole spectrum of sound during the gig, and then could hear properly afterwards.
― Trans-Europe Stopping Train (ithappens), Thursday, 14 March 2013 14:59 (thirteen years ago)

― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)
I was there last night too, and had p much exactly the same processes as yous, dog latin and Crackle Box. I felt that Wonder 2 was kinda diminished by having to follow You Made Me Realise, my head was so comprehensively in another place and took hours to regain some semblance of normalcy.
― hot young stalin (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 14 March 2013 17:12 (thirteen years ago)
It's funny, because it wasn't until after the show that I came to realise just how much I'd enjoyed it. While I was there I kind of felt like I was enduring something that I ought to like, but afterwards I was just 'fuck I've gotta go home and listen to New You again and again'
― pssstttt, Hey you (dog latin), Thursday, 14 March 2013 17:36 (thirteen years ago)
