what is that against neil's door anyway

a dalek

Donkamole Marvin (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 8 March 2013 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

i can't tell if whatever is against neil's door is leaning or affixed to it. like maybe it's some 2x4's he nailed to the door after he kicked it in the previous night and made a hole.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 8 March 2013 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

is that a dog against the door?

a stuffed dog maybe?

u r the best magician ever. my bad levitate me pls (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 8 March 2013 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

see, i get the feeling neil thought this crazy old man photo would be a great cover for his crazy old man music, really set it off, get people looking at it, no mistake

i get the feeling it never occurred to clapton that anyone would object to title old sock in goofball font with vacay pic

careful consideration is not very swag.

goole, Friday, 8 March 2013 20:58 (thirteen years ago)

Plus, Neil already did the IDGAF SWAG album cover with the cover of "Silver & Gold" taken with a damn Game Boy

chr1sb3singer, Friday, 8 March 2013 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

we need to talk about Clapton's Jimmy Buffet vibe ie THIS IS WHY HE LOSES

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 8 March 2013 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

fork in the road cover is a youtube screenshot right? #swag

tylerw, Friday, 8 March 2013 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

jimmy buffet has mad swag tho; he's commodified an entire way of life

Clapton :P

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 8 March 2013 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

Clapton had his pic taken on Tanned Penis Island shortly before Sting's house burned.

Neil wins on handwritten font alone

― Donkamole Marvin (Shakey Mo Collier), 8. maaliskuuta 2013 20:34

neil does have the most iconic handwriting...

― u r the best magician ever. my bad levitate me pls (upper mississippi sh@kedown), 8. maaliskuuta 2013 20:4

someone should turn neil's handwriting into an actual font.

― fact checking cuz, 8. maaliskuuta 2013 20:57

I think the writing on the cover already is a font. They try to hide it by putting a different "n" in the word "Young", but other than that, all the recurring letters are identical.

Tuomas, Friday, 8 March 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)

yeah yr right
actually hiring some designer to make him his own font would be a TOTAL neil move

u r the best magician ever. my bad levitate me pls (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 8 March 2013 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

scroll down to the bottom here for a couple downloadable neil fonts:

I voted Clapton because he looks like the bigger cock. I hate him.

Clapton missed a golden opportunity to make the "L"s in the title little pictures of old socks. He still would suck to death.

today's tom soy yum, mean mean thai (Spectrist), Friday, 8 March 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

Unless that font is actually crusty, stiffened old socks nailed together. He would then suck slightly less to death.

Re: Old Sock - If I remember correctly, when Clapton released the Journeyman album, the review in Musician Magazine was "Well he wasn't going to call it Hack, was he?"

Hideous Lump, Saturday, 9 March 2013 06:27 (thirteen years ago)

Xgau, actually:

Journeyman [Duck/Reprise, 1989]
What did you expect him to call it--Hack? Layla and 461 Ocean Boulevard were clearly flukes: he has no record-making knack. So he farms out the songs, sings them competently enough, and marks them with his guitar. Which sounds kind of like Mark Knopfler's. B-

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Saturday, 9 March 2013 06:41 (thirteen years ago)

Neil's cover precisely nails that found-object outsider art mystique that chillwavers and underground noise artists have been fetishizing for 10+ years

STILL showing up the kids at their own game in your fifth decade & counting = swag as fuuuuuuuuck

Josh and D.A.M. (Drugs A. Money), Saturday, 9 March 2013 07:51 (thirteen years ago)

Project high living yacht rock fantasies onto Eric all you want; his cover looks as swag as Stephen Stills

i apologize if it's already been acknowledged but neil's cover is a screencap from the title track's video, in which he plugs headphones into an apple and shakes it at us while lip syncing.

Neil by a mile.

da croupier, Saturday, 9 March 2013 18:03 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like this cover is just more of Clapton wishing he was as cool as JJ Cale

brimstead, Saturday, 9 March 2013 18:15 (thirteen years ago)

Clapton's cover just looks like an old rich dude that wants to make a point to the folks that have picked up the album that he is rich, and you aren't.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 9 March 2013 18:25 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like the older generation is taking a "well the kids obviously aren't even trying anymore so why should we" stand with these moronic album covers

Old Sock is a great title. Looks like he's on a vast expanse of private property.

the clapton cover is easily the more "I straight do not give a fuck how this looks" in every way - Neil's goin' for something, knows what it is, gets it. Clapton has reached a point of not caring. Neil's is old dude IDGAF swagger. Clapton's is an old dude who does not give a fuck.

that said, yes, "old sock" is a truly incredible album title choice and taken together with that cover should be respected

I mean, he could've gone for Old Times, Old Blues, Old Way, Old Man, Old Guitar, Old Blvd., etc., and everyone from Starbucks on up would've been satisfied. But no. He's rattling that gold cage.

Oh man, if only the Bowie people had put a box with Old Sock on top of 461 Ocean Boulevard.

The thing is, Clapton entered his lazy old man phase a long time ago, see also:

http://lyricsmusic.name/img/photos/aeric-clapton-timepieces-2.jpg

1. album's presentation as "live" is so dubious that the designer had inverted commas brought in
2. dude has just fucked off and stopped playing to check his watch and/or smoke a cigarette
3. what an asshole
