I don't know much about Taylor Swift beyond the fact that there's somebody out there named Taylor Swift, and that she's liked by both my female students and rock-critic friends. So this is not meant as a knock on her in any way. But I thought the quote I read from Amy Poehler today was the funniest thing I've come across in quite a while:

i have come round to this song because it is to young lesbians what "you belong with me" was to young gays

i wish someone would tell me that the girls in that video are her real-life friends because the thought of them acting like they are having "real" fun is off-putting to me for some reason. why, i do not know. i get the concept of acting and hiring actors. but it would be more fun if these were real friends.

this comment is like when i tell my wife i wish someone would invent a way for us to shower without having to actually shower.

i do love her and the song, tho.

argue that "you belong with me" is a great video, "safe & sound" her least obvious most directly gorgeous, "ours" really wonderfully shot and funny despite ugh conclusion

oh yeah and "the story of us" is obvious as hell but her performance in that video sells it

22 video makes me want her to pull a Queen Latifah and do a sitcom with real-life galpals Emma Stone, Selena Gomez, and Lena Dunham. #i'mgladi'vegotmygirls

also agree w/ BNelson re: her vids, but I still think "Back To December" is her most visually beautiful (if, again, Totally Obvious and Literal)

Also Kathleen Hanna's fandom of TSwift is like my current self making an It Gets Better video for my 13 year-old self

i'd put the run of first 7 songs on this up with any stretch on any of her albums

Plus "Holy Ground" and "Begin Again".

In fact if you remove the obviously weaker tracks it's her strongest album IMO.
