Best Song on "mbv"

and "wonder 2" is by far too long, there are too few things happening in those never-ending six minutes, i have to skip the end. additionally i find the motif and the singing annoying, in the end there is just this "whirlwind" noise which blows through the whole track, a song on the slight side.

the problem is simple: drum n bass. a problematic genre.

actually a proper mix of mbv guitars and Dn'B could have been something - but in practice I don't hear and bass just some muffled drums, buried under that annoying whirring sound

i don't really know drum n bass but i am pretty sure "wonder 2" is not the classical drum and bass track, maybe mbv's take on it.

Where 3EF's (brilliant) last album was a stunningly intense dark night of the soul, catharsis thru absolute tragedy etc, Wonder 2, while using a similar percussive set-up, is sheer ecstasy, glory-of-God shit. And it's all about the organ, rising and rising, rising a few semitones beyond what you'd expect, veering upwards as feedbacking guitars alternately struggle to keep pace or overshoot, and a wallowing distortion timbre charges in lustily during the instrumental parts in a vain attempt to anchor it all. I don't know about you but when I listen to that song I feel I'm perpetually falling forwards into space, the tension is how far it can go, how long it can keep expanding for

aw, poor 'is this and yes', you grew on me a lot after a couple of listens

that was close. i must say that i relistened to "wonder 2" after imago's post and it started to grow on me. in the beginning besides the rather subdued drums i only heard the "whirring" sound and a cacophonous orchestral part which reminded me of modern classical music à la stockhausen and late talk talk. but i think there is much more in this song. maybe i cannot hear everything due to the bad quality of the mp3s. i have to try again.

Surprised to see Who Sees You ranked so low, that's the one that grabbed me first and the one I wind up going back to often. Best guitar work on the album imo

New You is definitely my favourite followed by In Another Way.

Wonder 2 just feels like an idea Kevin Shields has had lying around since 1997. Which might be true of quite a lot of this actually.

Wonder 2 is a bit of a messy track in execution IMO.

Voted "Nothing Is" and definitely not trolling. Pleased it got so many votes. When I listened to the album through for the first time it was the only track that demanded to be heard again. Obviously the dark horse of the album.

tbh I am somewhat surprised that anyone gunning for a My Bloody Valentine album in 2013 hasn't already heard Third Eye Foundation

I assumed they were a bigger deal then they actually were/are, I guess; I generally assume by the time I hear about any band everyone else is tired of them and has moved on

i've heard exactly one song by TEF.

Think that later Third Eye Foundation once the guitars got ditched is generally better known too, and at that point any major similarity to MBV is lost

I remember being recommended TEF at the time but could not find any of their stuff in stores so I just forgot about it

I can remember quite a few acts trying that mbv/shoegaze meets dance thing in the late 90s, Acceleradeck and Chessie were a couple I remember liking quite a bit, although they were generally on the more drone end.

In Another Way gives me all sorts of crazy synaesthetic yearnings. I think it's one of the best songs of the last ten years. I didn't even vote for it here (because Wonder 2 is just as good)
