yeah, true. just like how they'd dip back into that world now, i don't know.

so are parts of the 2007 one, i see that album as the nail in the coffin for that sound. everytime i put it on i'm surprised by how good (and moving, at times) it is.

i always figured HAA was a reaction to that whole 'trying to be daft punk' copycat thing that's persisted for the last 10 years or so. especially the way things were heading around 2004-5 with certain scenes getting bigger, louder, brasher, less conceptual, less futuristic-techno-robot-utopia-celebration, more mid 00s-anxietyridden-dystopia. i find a lot of that boys noise/justice/simian mobile disco type scene really ugly.

i actually really like how little happens on HAA and how 'lo-fi' it is. it's not like they didn't give the fans what they wanted all along with alive 2007 anyway.

this loop is funny though, it's not really giving much away. i don't really like the drums on it but it does has that magical daft punk sunshine vibe, which is a good sign imo.

i'm really hoping the morodor collab is some kind of 10 minute disco arpeggio prog odyssey

Yeah I raised an eye at that, HAA basically *is* that sound.

HAA was maybe more tongue in cheek than it seemed? i dunno - it's kind of a crap album but in the context of Alive 2007 it's very good. In the same way I don't think Homework really sounds too good these days after seeing what they did with those tunes later on. Discovery still sounds good though.

i listened to discovery all the way through for the first time in what must be years yesterday and it sounded glorious. i forgot how many songs were on it!

tbh Alive 2007 ruined pretty much all DP for me since I only want to hear the version of "One More Time" that goes into "Aerodynamic", or the "Superheroes" that runs with "Human After All". I think "Digital Love" and maybe "Da Funk" were the only tracks spared from this (the former because it wasn't on Alive nor would it have fit, the latter doesn't really mix well with others). In that respect HAA felt like an "expansion pack" release, none of those tracks were really good on their own but damn do they mix well with everything else.

Shit, I've had Alive 2007 hanging around since... must be 2007, and I still haven't given it a proper spin. Will change that tonight.

it still feels odd to me since I had downloaded their infamous Coachella set and that summer I had coworkers who loved DP so we listened to that all the freakin time - when Alive came out it was basically the same but with some minor differences so it always felt a little weird to me

Alive 2007 is pretty much the only Daft Punk album I listen to as an album.

Listened to Alive 2007 at 6am on Friday night/saturday morning at full blast whilst high on life/beers/cocaine and can confirm that it is still GLORIOUS.

Nathan East is the slept-on collaborator here. Dude's played bass for Barry White, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Lionel Richie, Aretha, Whitney and scores of other greats. Hoping they'll be using him a lot.

I also read somewhere that they were possibly working with some of the studio musicians that worked on Thriller, though I'm not sure who.
