Just got my CD today. I live in the USA, just outside of Philly. I like the packaging myself.
It'll be interesting listening again. I listened non-stop the first week after the download was available but haven't since. I have a feeling I will hear a lot of new subtleties, not because of the medium (in theory any difference between this and the files I burned a disc from would be negligible at best) but because of the time.

no cardboard no paper no bubble wrap nothing. the record was loose and rattling around inside, amazed there was no dinged corners.

god dammit Kevin Shields my LP better be OK by the time it makes it to Oregon
― sleeve, Thursday, 28 February 2013 20:56 (thirteen years ago)
It was his chinchillas that packed those ones, not him.

As it turns out I did get to go to the sold-out other MBV show last weekend, thanks to a generous friend who couldnt. Awesome show.
And - as I said on FB about it - I was right at the mixing desk, and just as YMMR was about to start, the lighting/prjection tech turned and grinned at me and said "here we go!" and then added "this is the last time theyre ever doing this song this way, you know. You're seeing history!"
Then he put on some industrial earmuffs and sat there with a shiteating grin. The sound tech sat down, cracked open a beer, gave a thumbs up, and also grinned.

That sounds CLASSIQUE INDEED
― Raymond Cummings, Friday, 1 March 2013 04:57 (thirteen years ago)
i totally believe you trayce but that story has a real "& i picked up the guy's wallet & tapped him on the shoulder & he thanked me & said PERHAPS YOU SHOULD STEER CLEAR OF AIR TRAVEL NEXT SATURDAY" *winks* vibe
― schlump, Friday, 1 March 2013 05:12 (thirteen years ago)
anyway i really hope this augurs a kind of mtv unplugged sensitive acoustic rendering of you made me realise at future shows
― schlump, Friday, 1 March 2013 05:13 (thirteen years ago)
Anyone seeing them at Hammersmith on March 13th?
― they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Friday, 1 March 2013 06:58 (thirteen years ago)
no, they said they're adding members for future shows
― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Friday, 1 March 2013 09:24 (thirteen years ago)
Vanessa Mae will be guest appearing at Hammersmith
― OutdoorFish, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:05 (thirteen years ago)
i'm at the march 13th show...
are people getting different lp/cd packages?
mine came with the cd inside the gatefold, booklet is lol, why did they leave the last page blank? haha. sounds great anyway, looking forward to plonking it on next time my buddy has to set up a turntables + soundsystem somewhere
― Crackle Box, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:32 (thirteen years ago)
The LP/CDpackages all 'sound' the same (pizzabox mailer, no bubwrap, CD inside the gatefold) so far.
― Mark G, Friday, 1 March 2013 12:46 (thirteen years ago)
This album still rules.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 1 March 2013 13:58 (thirteen years ago)
Still waiting for my vinyl in Ohio. :(

^^ Fucking this. Mine arrived today, same story, rattling lp in a cardboard box, shaking about, no protection whatsoever. The corners visibly had to endure abuse during shipping.
Goddamnit. Was it so hard to put some bubble wrap in there?
― Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 1 March 2013 15:10 (thirteen years ago)
For the price of shipping they have no excuse. If they are shipping lps abroad like that then they are going to be inundated with complaints for dinged corners.

I avoided this by buying the "mp3s". I listen to them on my "ipod".
― A Yawning Chasm (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Friday, 1 March 2013 15:34 (thirteen years ago)
ive pretty much stopped buying LPs in the mail cuz no one seems to be able to send a record properly packed. every record i receive seems to either have dinged corners or torn inner sleeves. the exception being the one record i ordered from Audio Fidelity
― diamonddave85, Friday, 1 March 2013 15:57 (thirteen years ago)
though i did impulse buy this LP X: fingers crossed that it makes it ok
No visible dings on my sleeve, but I haven't played it yet. Hope it isn't warped etc

don't worry everyone, rest assured that the poorly packaged mbv LPs are slowly bumping and rolling their way west across the U.S.

aargh thanks for the image there

kevin shields was asked about this issue in an interview the other day btw. kevin, they asked him, you're that much in control of your records that you're even mailing out the records yourself. what's in the packaging to make sure that the vinyl doesn't get all scratched up? nothing is, he quipped

I confess I lolled, Nick.
Was pretty blasé about this in response to all the hype, but man, this is actually a great record.
― emil.y, Friday, 1 March 2013 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
Sounds like he's doing it on purpose, not content with damaging people's eardrums.
― OutdoorFish, Friday, 1 March 2013 19:40 (thirteen years ago)
for some reason that reminds me of
"Flip it over for a needle-destroying playable b-side etching hand carved by Wolf Eyes into the original laquers. Grooves cut in their own home lathe. Play at your own risk"
― christmas candy bar (al leong), Friday, 1 March 2013 19:47 (thirteen years ago)
Haven't ordered mine yet. Nothing like an anal retentive.
― OutdoorFish, Friday, 1 March 2013 20:00 (thirteen years ago)
Are the LPs being delivered by USPS?
― MV, Monday, 4 March 2013 01:43 (thirteen years ago)
See, for me the packaging with no bubble-wrap is completely in line with the whole picture regarding this LP.
Basically, it's like an album made in 2000, left in a corner, then eventually picked up and handed to you.
Not preserved in protective layers...
― Mark G, Monday, 4 March 2013 09:48 (thirteen years ago)
Dink right in the middle of the first track and a couple of clicks and skips on side 2. I don't need KS ageing my LPs any faster than I will do so myself, thank you very much.
― give me back my 200 dollars (NotEnough), Monday, 4 March 2013 10:08 (thirteen years ago)
He says this release is just part of the whole framework. What will the actual 'new' stuff sound like?
― OutdoorFish, Monday, 4 March 2013 12:48 (thirteen years ago)
Jolly Belgian chants.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2013 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
Oh splendiferous I do hope so
― OutdoorFish, Monday, 4 March 2013 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
The CD sounds better than the 320 kbps MP3s. Hearing some things I didn't catch the first 50 times. Doesn't sound as muddied, in general.
― slagterm, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 05:05 (thirteen years ago)
The 320kbps MP3s they offered for download are actually 128kbps MP3s transcoded, so I'm not surprised.
― MatthewK, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 07:42 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah? Bizarre. How do you know?

― Crackle Box, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 08:24 (thirteen years ago)
There was a lot of talk on What about the transcodes, as there are loads of anal retentives on there.
― Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 10:43 (thirteen years ago)
Received the vinyl/cd combo today. Twelve days from Southall, Middlesex to the center of the NorthAm land mass. Not bad. Better time, in fact, than Media Mail drop ship from, say, Illinois. No dents. No dings. Don't understand the complaints about the cover art, which I find stark and stunning.
― MV, Wednesday, 6 March 2013 21:43 (thirteen years ago)
My vinyl/CD package arrived earlier this week. I finally opened it today It was rattling around in the box with no padding - not even a plastic shrink-wrap to protect the cover. During transit the LP has cut through the inner-sleeve and through the actual album cover itself at the bottom end: so a couple of millimeters of the disc actually hang out of the cover if I hold it upright. Will have to send this back.
