boxedjoy, Thursday, 28 February 2013 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

i was listening to the marcus marr single wondering where i'd picked up the recommendation and thinking "wtf is this annoying shit" about the a-side but the b-side was much better, yes!

little bit late but love the noodling in the second half of 'the music'

le hague, Saturday, 27 April 2013 05:03 (thirteen years ago)

I copped a Delia & Gavin from 2005 or whatever from a DFA representative at this big outdoor record fair. for some reason i've listened to it ~90 times or so but never actually owned it.

Days of Mars is easily my favorite full-length to come out on DFA, but I'm probably the only one who'd say that

a duiving caTCH, a stuolllen bayeeeess (jamescobo), Wednesday, 8 May 2013 19:57 (thirteen years ago)

thought it was pretty well regarded?

think "yeah (crass vn)" is my fave single song

cozen, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 20:02 (thirteen years ago)

Days of Mars is amazing but I often get sidetracked by the Relevee single/remixes and just listen to that

mh, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 20:09 (thirteen years ago)

^both are great, as is Track 5, which might be my favorite thing by them, or on DFA

mizzell, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 20:10 (thirteen years ago)

Track 5 is amazing. Out-carpenters carpenter.

Love Holy Ghost's "Dumb Disco Ideas".

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

the first half underwhelmed me but the second half is tremendous

failures on the moon (electricsound), Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:43 (thirteen years ago)

it all passed without incident is the best i can say.

i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Friday, 17 May 2013 00:06 (thirteen years ago)

first few minutes feel like HG! by numbers, would be much lesser song if they'd done an edit. this is partly bcz, as with everything bar I Will Come Back and Jam For Jerry, the lyrics are completely blank, so it works great that the vocals become more explicitly sheer decoration once the synths take off.

enjoying not being able to work out if the drums are pads or carefully produced acoustic kit; looking forward to the CD to see who's credited with cwbll

why does Kanye say he was based on the novel "Push" by Sapphire? (sic), Friday, 17 May 2013 00:29 (thirteen years ago)

love the "dumb disco ideas" instrumental. could have been made circa "yeah" -- i like that.

wombspace (abanana), Tuesday, 9 July 2013 20:16 (twelve years ago)

Has it been said all over the place that the Blurred Lines instrumental sounds a lot like a 2004/2005-ish DFA track?

Walter Galt, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 06:13 (twelve years ago)

new, non-album, James Murphy / HG! track on latter's Soundcloud today

how is "abebe" formed? (sic), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 07:17 (twelve years ago)

^i like the music a LOT, though the vocals are oddly weak

electricsound, Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:57 (twelve years ago)

that's not odd although they are significantly worse than usual.

i lost my shoes on acid (jed_), Thursday, 11 July 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)

i don't normally have a problem with the singing but this has the feel of a rough guide vocal that never got replaced

electricsound, Thursday, 11 July 2013 22:55 (twelve years ago)

Unmentioned above, but the The Juan Maclean returned with a single in April:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nwf31pKvGc4

Nancy Whang's vocal aside, its not as endearingly idiosyncratic as past outings. And I like Whang more on Classix's "All You're Waiting For".

10 years later, that cabaret voltaire song in the top post mix is still the jamb:

I was wondering what people thought of that Larry Gus album. The couple tracks I heard are pretty cool.

Non-Stop Erotic Calculus (bmus), Thursday, 12 September 2013 22:47 (twelve years ago)

not really into it. it's great that he had this complicated algorithm for deciding which background samples to use or whatever, but it's not really borne out in the music, idk.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 12 September 2013 23:24 (twelve years ago)

I'm a few years behind but the Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra album is so so good. Got the sensuous smoothness of 'Still You' and the ridiculous and lovely mess that is 'That Hat' on a loop here.

Waluigi Nono (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 18 September 2013 02:44 (twelve years ago)

that's defo one of my DFA faves

Some days I think 'Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - Rise (DFA Mix)' is the best thing they ever released.

MikoMcha, Thursday, 28 August 2014 10:02 (eleven years ago)

The Holy Ghost! album is one of my fav DFA things. Took a bunch of plays but now I'm into just about every song on the album.

Dance to the sound of grand slam Big Data.

MikoMcha, Friday, 29 August 2014 09:40 (eleven years ago)

surprise! sounds like a keyboard demo.

the late great, Monday, 1 September 2014 18:25 (eleven years ago)

Being assisted by James Murphy could be the best thing to happen to New Order in years. Unfortunately DFA says it ain't happening. So bummed.

cannot believe i have not done this before, but i have just set up a playlist that puts 'moon unit' parts 1-4 by mogg and naudascher in order that were spread across the 2cd set, nobody knows.

question :

why on earth did they mix up the ordering on the comp, and, were they ever released as a standalone release as an ep/mini-lp ?

mark e, Thursday, 18 September 2014 21:44 (eleven years ago)

Although Murphy always rubbed me slightly the wrong way, I've been really enjoying listening to the MSG live stuff on Spotify - incredible band.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 18 September 2014 21:50 (eleven years ago)

ok ok .. i'll reveal my ineptness .. 'MSG' ??

mark e, Thursday, 18 September 2014 22:02 (eleven years ago)

sorry I mean The Long Goodbye which is an LCD Soundsystem concert album recorded at Madison Square Garden

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 18 September 2014 22:11 (eleven years ago)

ahh .. not got that as its not hit the cd format yet has it ?

i have the live-in-the-studio london sessions, which as yet i have not actually listened to ..

time to dig it out methinks.
