new remixes for juan maclean's 'love is in the air'," I'll say that I've heard both the Caro and Strategy remixes and love them. Strategy's very much reminds me of New Order circa Republic.

I agree about the New Order similarity on the Strategy rmx, but I dunno-- I couldn't get as into it as I thought I was going to.

i thought maybe the cd single hadn't been released yet... haven't seen it anywhere and a quick google search doesn't take me anywhere i can buy it... i already own the record and was hoping to see the video online somewhere, actually.

GALKIN (GALKIN), Friday, 14 July 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

what did you put on during your set at dazzle ships? i mean roughly whatever you remember.

fongoloid sangfroid (sanskrit), Friday, 14 July 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

not much, my brother hogged the decks to try and impress dan selzer. they went home together, so i think it worked. i know i played family fodder, au pairs, slovenly, slits, tv personalities, mark beer, david bowie, donna summer, Le Pamplemousse and definitely more but that is all i can remember (i also spun 5 stellas and one shot of blueberry vodka)

GALKIN (GALKIN), Saturday, 15 July 2006 01:42 (nineteen years ago)

I left before your brother. You don't remember because you were too drunk. Andy thought it was a dance party and brought all hi-nrg new wave club bangers. That really brought down everyone who was there to hear Jeremy play 45s at 33 pitched down -8. I, for the record, played nothing that was written and sung by Syd Barrett.

I definitely remember the Family Fodder, I remember thinking, is the song Debbie Harry really 20 minutes long?

Thanks for coming down, hope you had a good time. A lot of really nice and cool people were there, and it was a totally down to earth time, just like we like.

that new remix of 'colours' by hot chip is not what I expected at all! anyone else heard it?

HPSTRKRFT (haitch), Monday, 7 August 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

yeah... not a hot chip fan but i liked it

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 7 August 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

Has the Fred Falke mix surfaced yet? Really curious about that one...

Telephonething (Telephonething), Monday, 7 August 2006 19:42 (nineteen years ago)

the DFA remix of Colours is beautiful and magic.

theghostrobot (theghostrobot), Monday, 7 August 2006 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

I am really, really, really, really, really, really loving the "Colours" remix. I can't imagine how one would mix into or out of it, but goddamned if it isn't the most glacially pretty song I've heard since waking up to the Knife in a big way earlier this year. Michael Mann should have rented it out for Miami Vice - I can't remember all the songs that movie used to set against Colin Ferrell looking pensive, but I seriously doubt any of them worked as well as this one would have.

So I just heard about the Arthur Russell remix today and was reminded that I hadn't known the mindfuckingly great "Colours" remix was going to be on the horizon either, and figured I better revive this thread to see if there was anything else coming up soon. It feels weird to have only seen one proper "album" be released on DFA this year (Hot Chip) - I never end up listening to DFA albums as much as the singles for obvious reasons (Days of Mars being the lone exception), but the albums are always so so so interesting to listen to as "mission statements" that I end up giving them a stupidly giant amount of chances whether they deserve them or not.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

we have the dfa remixes chapter 2 coming out on october 3. we have a new hot chip 12" coming out in a few months, with new remixes of over and over (maurice fulton and mock & toof), we have the first 7" single from prinzhorn dance school out late october. next year we will have full lengths from lcd ss, the juan maclean, shocking pinks, shit robot, prinzhorn dance school, dfa compilation #3 and more full lengths tbd. we have a JT remix coming out soon, as well as a remix for a new EMI band called Captain. Glad people seem to be digging Colours, it is on the new remix compilation.

GALKIN (GALKIN), Thursday, 7 September 2006 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

shocking pinks? as in the shite nz band? cripes.

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Thursday, 7 September 2006 03:16 (nineteen years ago)

GALKIN (GALKIN), Thursday, 7 September 2006 03:28 (nineteen years ago)

I really liked Dance The Dance Electric, so it must be the good one. :)

Us Against The City in particular is excellent.

Treblekicker (treblekicker), Thursday, 7 September 2006 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

I really liked Dance The Dance Electric...

I did too, but I haven't quite figured out what happened with the two albums since then (Mathematical Warfare and Infinity Land). Flat boring stuff.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 7 September 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

francesco brunetti (minerva estassi), Thursday, 7 September 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

this is the thread where i accidentally coined the genre called "beat beat"

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 September 2006 00:02 (nineteen years ago)

my lord, "over and over" is shaping up to be one of the most remixed tracks of recent times..

News to me there were others. I'd heard they split up. Thanks anyway for the negative recommendation...

THIS THING IS FUCKING FUN!!!

grady (grady), Friday, 8 September 2006 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

my lord, "over and over" is shaping up to be one of the most remixed tracks of recent times..

I gotta believe that crown belongs to "Drop The Pressure".

I think I'm most excited for that Captain mix - I can't even imagine where the DFA's entry point into such a straightforward Britpop band would be! (I'm also v. curious to hear how the DFA Steez interacts with the Trevor Horn Steez - a mighty steez-battle indeed.)

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Friday, 8 September 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

You can hear it at the very end of the Aug 8th episode of beats in space. it sounded kind of so-so to me as far as DFA mixes go, but i'm looking forward to hearing the whole thing.

grady (grady), Friday, 8 September 2006 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

"Hot Chip - Shake Your Fist (Diplo Remix) "

from a kiss fm playlist. what's the word on this?

also, again: the colors remix (rewind, repeat times a million).

theghostrobot (theghostrobot), Saturday, 9 September 2006 17:44 (nineteen years ago)

Falke's remix has got one of those basslines that sticks in my head for days

jergins (jergins), Saturday, 9 September 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

The Falke remix of Colours is amazing, and I'm sorry to say massively owns the DFA one.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 9 September 2006 19:53 (nineteen years ago)

it certainly works better on the floor

jergins (jergins), Saturday, 9 September 2006 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

definitely works better on the floor. that is where my copy is.

GALKIN (GALKIN), Sunday, 10 September 2006 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

have you tried putting it on a table?

New Tim Sweeney mix up here: http://www.dfarecords.com/radiomixes

braveclub (braveclub), Thursday, 5 October 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'd heard something about Sweeney or Goldsworthy doing a mix for the Fabric CD series - is that happening?

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 5 October 2006 15:47 (nineteen years ago)

I thought they were teaming up for a DJ-Kicks mix?

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 5 October 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

anyone heard the "springfield" rmx?

groovemaan (groove nihilist), Thursday, 5 October 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

That's what I meant - DJ Kicks. Is that coming out?

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 5 October 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

anyone heard the "springfield" rmx?.

Yes. Oh, yes indeed. This is where I get all fanboyish and start dribbling and yelling DUDE BUY IT at my screen.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Thursday, 5 October 2006 19:35 (nineteen years ago)

Listening to the second DFA remixes comp, and i'm reminded again how much I tend to underrate these guys. All the bits I don't like are the bits of the original songs that they didn't have the heart to remove (like, er, the choruses; I'm looking at you "She Wants To Move"). The deeeep remix of UNKLE's "In A State" is awesome though, and makes me feel guilty for rubbishing people who compare DFA to My Life In The Bush of Ghosts and the like, b/c that's the first thing I thought of this time! That and a bit of Henrik Schwarz.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 5 October 2006 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

The deeeep remix of UNKLE's "In A State" is awesome though

It took me SO long to learn to like this, but now I think it's one of the absolute most exemplary tracks they've ever come up with. I mean I don't have it on endless repeat or anything (that would still be the "Colours" remix), but it might be the best example of the DFA "hey, let's not do anything particularly CRAY-ZEE, and let's spend like twelve minutes not doing it" steez. And good lord is that ever a quality steez. I'm hoping my reaction to the Arthur Russell mix comes around in similar fashion.

James.Cobo (jamescobo), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

is it the full 11 minute UNKLE mix - or the edited down version as per the recent UNKLE boxset ?

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

they edited it down for the Unkle set? that is totally idiotic.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 5 October 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

yup. aint it just.

what henrik schwarz sounds like the UNKLE mix? I am really getting into his music, but dont have too much, just "Where We At", "Chicago" and the Coldcut remix. he is super talented i think. ironically he is doing the DJ Kicks that tim & tim were going to do, but had to decline eventually. we might have a Fabric mix very soon or an All Back To Mine Chill Out Lounge for Some Late Night Tales of Strange Games and Funky Things Volume XXXXVII aka Now Thats What I Call Mellow!

ps: so glad the UNKLE mix has been rediscovered a bit, always wished people heard that for the great mix it is (and about 95% original music), it was a bit strange to spin out so it got buried when released. that box set is hilarious. they have like 65 remixes on there, no joke, and they EDITED ours?

"what henrik schwarz sounds like the UNKLE mix?"

Probably his slightly harder stuff like "Jimis (2006 Edit)" or the second half of his remix of Tosca's "Superrob".
