Thanks! Love Cleaners From Venus, kind of like Woods (they're from my home town area apparently- kind of a fun fact), love Pavement though they generally exude more hip angst than the cited bands in my opinion, love the Fall.

Mozart is too angst-y as well...

haven't listened to music in forever, should revisit.

Clientele is like the UK version of all this imo, too.

The potentially double album was written on the road, reunites the band with longtime Dinosaur Jr. producer and Smoke Ring tracker John Agnello, and features guests like Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks, Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, and Woods frontman Jeremy Earl. In a interview with Spin, Vile called the album “our [Fleetwood Mac's] Tusk, but no cheese. Just rock.”

Between this, Mac DeMarco, Real Estate, and Cass McCombs, I think I've found my favorite "current" sound.

yeah, i think the DeMarco album is the best of the lot

i just listened to the mac demarco album (2), and it has it's moments, but i'm not sure i'm going to be able to overcome my hatred of a few guitar strumming styles that he relies on too often. i have no idea how to explain in words what i mean, but i'm talking about the strumming style used at the very beginning of "Cooking up Something good", and also the strum where you mute the 2's and 4's, like at the beginning of ""Still Together". i have too many painful memories of being stuck in a room with a guy who played nothing but that style while staring intensely at me and repeatedly asking for feedback. i'll keep listening, though!

i shudder to say it, but i realized what it is: it's the dave matthews band guitar strum. i have trouble getting past it.

Yeah that is truly a very jam-band guitar style, though I think it is offset by the style of everything else around it in this case.

i've heard his solo live show is better but i saw him with the violators and it just dragged like nothing i've ever seen

never saw him live, but from what ive seen on youtube - it seems a bore

i saw him live a couple of times a few years ago and hated him every time, but the records are great, especially the last one.

Live was alright, but I didn't really get into him fully until afterwards.

song is nice, i guess.not as good as the first one.

i like how he quietly plays air guitar with his fingers on that clip.

the production is rich and full of small details, as oppose to smoke ring which was more stripped down.

I love when albums release in accordance with the beginning of an appropriate season.

it is also a much more optimistic record than SRFMH, a disadvantage in a way.

it's not me, it's Kurt! though there is at least one new idea, which is a much more detailed and accessible sound.

record is great, but there's nothing as immediately strong as Society Is a Friend or as depressing as Runners Up. of course, it needs more listens.

this sounds great already, can't wait to buy it

"wakin on a pretty day" was just in 'pretty nice' territory for me (other than the guitar stuff toward the end of the track) so i am pleased to find a lot more on the album that i think is more interesting

pure pain is an early highlight for me

square shells ep is the best tho

some people like square shells but no matter how many times i return to it, i think it's the one release of his that i DON'T like! it sounds really bland and rounded off

Are Shame Chamber and Pure Pain. The others are all great, maybe
Girl Called Alex is somewhat the highlight of the all highlights .

shame chamber was the one that jumped out at me. rest of the record kind of washed over me without making an impact.

it's a grower. the melodies are kinda buried under the production. but they are there.

this album is good, but so far it lacks the distinct feeling halo had. that one was like a defining statement of burned out alienation, this one is just a collection of good tunes... so could be worse.

I like to think a part of this records success is due to Stella

this is a great record, it has a positive vibe, something few records seem to have over-all.

I just listened to this on an airplane, good traveling music, zen & poignant

This album sounded great in the spring, a little less so when I listened to it again recently, but still one of my favorites of the year.

The last time I played this record in whole was sitting on my dad's pontoon boat at his lakehouse over the summer and it was pretty much A+ perfect and I'm afraid to spoil the magic by playing it again.
