320 I downloaded very possibly a transocde, 24/96 is a major improvement to my ears. (Please note I have drunk a lot of rum)

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:33 (thirteen years ago)

To try to get an idea before I pay for it: does this stuff sound similar to Loveless, similar to Isn't Anything-era, or like something new and distinct?

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:33 (thirteen years ago)

"distinct from both"

EveningStar (Sund4r), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:34 (thirteen years ago)

Eager to know as well.

cmon no one reads 77 anymore

manti 乒乓 (k3vin k.), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:35 (thirteen years ago)

much more like loveless than IA, with some new angles thrown in

djembe v (electricsound), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:35 (thirteen years ago)

Well, after a shivers-accompanied first listen, this sounds like the closest possible thing to a 'mature' MBV album. It doesn't knock you out of your seat with the way the guitars stampede in out of the little interludes on Loveless. But my immediate response to the songwriting is that it's just so, so beautiful - the dreaminess is unparalled! You could also say they sound more like a real band in a room, enhanced by very detailed-'sounding' (obv. we can't know yet) overdubs and layerings, and with those newly-forceful (compared to their past two) live drums from Colm..

Davek (davek_00), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:36 (thirteen years ago)

Additionally, nobody has any promo codes I figure?

Evan, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:36 (thirteen years ago)

"new you" and "in another way" are super fun

scott seward, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:38 (thirteen years ago)

also fuck kevin sheilds for only providing a 24/96 download. where's my 24/192 download. ; )

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:38 (thirteen years ago)

idk why I figured Colm would still be a smacked-out sloppy drummer

:C (crüt), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:39 (thirteen years ago)

hahahaha sweet nin riff on "nothing is"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:40 (thirteen years ago)

first track is killer, very powerful drumming!

The drumming is damn powerful throughout so far.

shaane, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:40 (thirteen years ago)

welp "nothing is" is kicking my ass

was expecting to be cynical about this record but nope

where's my 24/192 download

I was expecting to buy the multitrack.

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:44 (thirteen years ago)

i wish mbv had more distinct song titles

call all destroyer, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

btw if you have a mac and are downloading the 24/96, I recommend using this player: http://sbooth.org/Decibel/

(obv only if you have an external DAC capable of handling the juice etc. etc.)

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:45 (thirteen years ago)

"wonder 2"!!!!!!!???!?!!!!!

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:46 (thirteen years ago)

maybe i just got really drunk

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:47 (thirteen years ago)

2 tracks i didn't like on 1st listen, and 7 i can't wait to hear again. much much better strike rate than i expected tbh.

( X '____' )/ (zappi), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:49 (thirteen years ago)

Oh god I love how warm this sounds.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:49 (thirteen years ago)

first track incredible

"weird hearing these songs with an actual colm"

do we know he actually played on this one?

"idk why I figured Colm would still be a smacked-out sloppy drummer"

he's like the most normal guy in the world

akm, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:49 (thirteen years ago)

Listening to this, and I say this as the biggest MBV fan around, totally fucking with the new album, but it makes you wonder though: They could have released this in 1994. Kevin must have LOLLED so hard postponing this until now. Fucking twisted genius he is.

MBV were always timeless, and they are now, too.

Incredible album. Fucking incredible.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:54 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah it does sound super 90s. LOVE IT. Makes me feel like i kid again.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

Especially that last track, oh hell yes!

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:56 (thirteen years ago)

24/96 download chugging along at 700kb/s. I'm impressed! liveblogging my downloading experience.

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:58 (thirteen years ago)

Does anyone think of lollipops when you listen to MBV? A partially transparent circle of sugar. I always did.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:58 (thirteen years ago)

ah, site's back up and running now. bought me a good old-fashioned vinyl copy.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:59 (thirteen years ago)

I think this is the longest I've ever waited on something and still maintained reasonable expectations on what it might be like. Even the span of time between when I was born and when I lost my virginity was shorter.

Not disappointed with it in any way, shape or form.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 February 2013 03:59 (thirteen years ago)

i'm like a *moderate* mbv fan but my god does this sound good

call all destroyer, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:00 (thirteen years ago)

this sounds great to me but i smoked some 3 Kings in the bathroom so that might have something to do with it. will be buying the vinyl though.

scott seward, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:01 (thirteen years ago)

my record player doesn't even work right and I bought the vinyl. I expect one of you guys will fix it at whichever FAP I bring it to.

乒乓, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:02 (thirteen years ago)

i can't believe i effing ran out earlier today

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:02 (thirteen years ago)

also went for the 24/96 download, since my squeezebox can actually play that without downsampling. finally it begins to pay for itself with six senses of sound.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:05 (thirteen years ago)

in another way ruuuuuules

call all destroyer, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:05 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah, "In Another Way" was my initial favorite.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:06 (thirteen years ago)

this is so rich and gorgeous

Clay, Sunday, 3 February 2013 04:06 (thirteen years ago)

Great album.
