I'll put the stats thread up in a minute.

Hurrah for Miguel! Was in the lower half of my ballot (alongside Dawn Richard and John Talabot and Chromatics) but I can definitely get behind it as the consensus #1.

questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:18 (thirteen years ago)

alpine static, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

Elle Varner also. Those two (Elle and Shanell) were both great late in the year releases. Sigh.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

ha is the meek mill album at #218 the one that people still thought might show up in the top 15?

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:22 (thirteen years ago)

polyphonic come back!!

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

These lists are always great. I didn't engage much with music this year for various reasons so I'm looking forward to going through this. Had I been registered/voted in this the cherry thing would've been my #1, just an incredible album (when was the last time a jazz album placed in this poll btw?)

castle grayscale (wins), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)

The B/W covers work really well when they're lined up like that.

questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:29 (thirteen years ago)

polyphonic come back!!

Sure, I'll get em after lunch.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:31 (thirteen years ago)

saltwater incursion (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:32 (thirteen years ago)

Big Boi #1 in 2010, #597 in 2012, now that's what I call a fall from grace.

fun loving and xtremely tolrant (Billy Dods), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:37 (thirteen years ago)

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:38 (thirteen years ago)

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:40 (thirteen years ago)

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

I still regularly play "Daddy Fat Sax', "General Patton", "Back-Up Plan" and "Tangerine"

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

last one was really good, new one was really really bad

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:44 (thirteen years ago)

This Top 10 utterly blows away the idea of 'tasteful' or 'dinner party music' as pejoratives.

So otm. Kendrick was my #1 but Miguel wasn't far behind. It's like Kaputt never happened. Poor Bobby Womack, Leonard Cohen and Mark Lanegan though - all on my ballot, all way way down on the list. It's no country for old men. (Well, unless you're Scott Walker or Michael Gira)

Thanks to the poll-runners.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:45 (thirteen years ago)

the big boi album did come out in december...though actually that's no excuse given that scott walker and even katy b with her four (4) songs placed off the back of dec releases

thx to all poll-runners, yes!

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

Using ILX as a post-it note, before today here is what I feel like checking:

57. SILENT SERVANT Negative Fascination (277 Points, 11 Votes)
56. RICARDO VILLALOBOS Dependent and Happy (278 Points, 8 Votes)
32. VOICES FROM THE LAKE Voices From the Lake (419 Points, 17 Votes, 2 First Place Votes)
24. ACTRESS R.I.P (473 Points, 17 Votes, 1 First Place Vote)

^ to make-up for the lack of bobbins in the tracks poll of course.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

There are a lot of great albums on there with just one vote to their name, wtf people!

Damo Suzuki's Parrot, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

Poor Bobby Womack, Leonard Cohen and Mark Lanegan though - all on my ballot, all way way down on the list. It's no country for old men. (Well, unless you're Scott Walker or Michael Gira)

You forgot Dylan :)

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

I dunno what dinner parties you guys attend.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:48 (thirteen years ago)

it's true that if someone put on Grimes at a dinner party I would take the entire pot of ramen and throw it out the window

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

Thanks Johnny.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

hasn't there already been a grimes at dinner parties debate this year?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

there's always an "[artist x] at dinner parties" debate, it's kind of at the point where I want invite ppl over for food and then put on "Ventolin" on endless repeat

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:50 (thirteen years ago)

people always act like coffee table dinner party album is such a lol strawman but grimes was for really realsies the undesired faint background muzak to so very much of my illstarred 2012

― r|t|c, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 8:12 PM (1 week ago)

etc, Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:52 (thirteen years ago)

christmas candy bar (al leong), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:53 (thirteen years ago)

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 20:54 (thirteen years ago)
