There's always a contingent for heavy rock that's more psych than metal.
― questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:39 (thirteen years ago)
lol wut? You know I'm no metal purist...in fact, I often denounce such behavior, but this Goat album has no place in a metal poll.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:39 (thirteen years ago)
jeff wasnt hahaxps
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:39 (thirteen years ago)

Goat is great. Not metal, but amazejams.
― Mordy, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
also, i can't believe Baroness isn't even going to make a list of the 77 best albums of 2012 as chosen by smart people who love music. :(
― alpine static, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
This is one of the few records on the list that feels genuinely unique I think, I didn't vote for it but it's immense sounding.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
still feel like baroness could show up?
To be fair, the promo photos are pretty metal.
― with perhaps the exception of r-r-r-r-rhythm (Sanpaku), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah its just straight ahead psych, nice vibes oh look a flute on the first track.
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
if whiney didn't vote baroness wont make it.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:42 (thirteen years ago)
Dear Sanpaku, who I know is reading this thread, the bat signal has gone out for Ask Sanpaku. Plz reply!
― Mordy, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:43 (thirteen years ago)
Baroness not placing here but Farrah Abraham showing up at #17 (or w/e) is the "Adorn didn't win the tracks poll" of the 2012 albums poll.
― alpine static, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:43 (thirteen years ago)
Goat are one of those bands that aren't metal but for some reason (like Zombi) a huge percentage of their fans are metallers/stoner rockers.
― pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:43 (thirteen years ago)
I'm a little sad that it looks more and more like merchandise missed the list, I feel like there are a good number of people who would have dug it
Here's the album on Youtube, you can also download it for free
― Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:44 (thirteen years ago)
I love that she'll push her voice as far as it will go. Probably hurt like hell for days after recording the album.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:44 (thirteen years ago)
Farrah Abraham showing up here is the "Gangnam Style made the tracks poll" of the album poll.
― Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
the first half of "become what you are" on that merchandise album is one of my favorites of the year
― ☕ (diamonddave85), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
Quite a few of the albs on youtube (Blondes too, one CD of the Swans).
― xyzzzz__, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:45 (thirteen years ago)
emil.y - you goin to Swans then? A FAP it is then. I think we might be down for a day or two.
― dog latin, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:46 (thirteen years ago)
That GOAT record. Wow, really fucking excellent.
From my "review" (i.e. a Facebook post):
Okay, I am on board with the Goat worship... It's amazing and fairly indescribable (yet, I will try). It's not metal, but I understand why metal fans love it - the last song in particular, "Det Som Aldrig Forandras/Diarabi" has searing, epic Pagan-sounding droning guitars - and it mines the same sonic psych-rock landscape as Dungen, another band that has no shortage of metallic supporters. But it also veers off into Afro-rhythms (that's what they call them anyway), Kraut-rock and the female chanted vocals seem to come from a Scandinavian rainforest. Which I didn't even know existed until I looked it up. Of course, I didn't know music could sound like this either until I heard it.

Indeed, dl. Post on the Brighton thread, maybe? Brighton
― emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:47 (thirteen years ago)
Looks like the whole Andy Stott album is there too, though it seems the kind of thing that would suffer from YouTube sound quality. xp
― questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:47 (thirteen years ago)

Live videos of them look a bit embarrassing tbh
― Jaap and roids (NickB), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:50 (thirteen years ago)
I'm listening to Farrah on the train and you know it is a listenable album. It is entertaining and it is interesting. Call it a novelty, but i'm really not a lover of enjoying things based on camp/kitsch values alone. i find it a lot more enjoyable than a lot of other stuff on this list tbh.
― dog latin, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:50 (thirteen years ago)

Still love this album.
― pandemic, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
I'm guessing this means Miguel also beat Frank.
― MarkoP, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
i'm not gonna say miguel's a dead cert for #1 b/c i thought CRJ was the most cert ever in the trax poll but i've pretty much assumed a kaleidoscope dream win all along
― lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
Did anyone take ship's bet? I should have, but that would have been cheating.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
Ke$ha's album hasn't placed yet...just saying.
― questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:55 (thirteen years ago)
I still think some of the lyrics could be better and I'm not crazy about the lower register of his voice, but I'm surprised at the lasting power of this album
― Dan S, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:57 (thirteen years ago)
