See? Swans! There's tons of metal in this poll!

many xp but

also what's the name of the musical sequence he likes to use?

There's no specific name for that sequence, but the concept is Shepard Tone. See also: The X-Files and Resident Evil soundtracks

I can't keep up with this thread in real time but these are great albums
I'm happy to see Beak placed

I should have played this Swans album before now, this rules

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

That Swans album is really impressive and I thought it was terrific when I was actually listening to it but I couldn't imagine wanting or needing to hear it more than once or twice a year in particularly horrible weather or something.

Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:21 (thirteen years ago)

best album cover of the year though
Especially the rear. For those of you with only downloads:

Swans of course was #3 in metal poll (which caused some consternation amongst the purists)

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:22 (thirteen years ago)

LOL there was a time when I was sure this wd be #1 so seeing it just outside the top 10 is a bummer

every dog latin has his day (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

haha, I had no idea that was on the rear. I recant my earlier statement.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

Really? It gives me the heebie jeebies.

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

Nine of the top 10 are locks but I have no idea what the 10th is.

Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

Its not gonna be Goat :(

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

Holding out for Meek Mill but I reckon we're way too high for that now.

Matt DC, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

I just didn't get into this the same way I did with "My Father...". Don't really have a good explanation why, maybe I only need one Swans album in my life.

questino (seandalai), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

i really have no idea what's going to be in the top 10, i figured swans and scott walker were a lock

☕ (diamonddave85), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

back album cover reminds me of ¿ferret rim jobs – c/d?

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

I still believe in a Miguel-Kendrick-Dawn top 3 tho

every dog latin has his day (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:24 (thirteen years ago)

the meek mill had way too much rosé on it to vote for

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

if Goat doesn't place I'm gonna be really mad at myself for not voting.

:C (crüt), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

Jaap and roids (NickB), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:26 (thirteen years ago)

laying on my bed listening to 'the seer' for the first time while drifting in an out of consciousness was probably the most intense listening experience of my life

☕ (diamonddave85), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:27 (thirteen years ago)

were you sleepy, or close to death?

pandemic, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:28 (thirteen years ago)

felt like both

☕ (diamonddave85), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

Yay swans, I feel some kinship with the front cover, not so much the back cover. Looooooove this album in its righteous heaviness. Sounds like church. (not the church, just church)

this customer is a jerk (La Lechera), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:29 (thirteen years ago)

I can't see Goat beating Scott and Swans. I really can't.

Glad I got around to listening to The Seer before voting finished. It grabbed me straight away and went relatively high up on my list. Intense is right.

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

I couldn't see Farrah beating Carly Rae but here we are.

10. GOAT World Music (736 Points, 21 Votes, 1 First Place Vote) Spotify

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:31 (thirteen years ago)

Swans, my #3 only knocked off the number 2 spot by Eyvind Kang in the final week of voting. It's totally epic. I never listened to this band before this album but for me it was instant. Don't know if It'll have quite the same effect in the summer, but for now it's sound tracking those long dark nights rather well and I can't wait to see them in Brighton in April.

Anyone else got the vinyl edition? I was kind of thrown by the alternate tracklisting. Mother of The World makes so much more sense as the second track; but on vinyl it's buried away on the third or fourth side. So wrong!

dog latin, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:31 (thirteen years ago)

what is goat?

Differ of Narcissus (The Reverend), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

are they called goat as a nod to the acronym or the animal or both?

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

okay the emil.y/crut/Johnny F run of posts there is kind of hilarious

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

whats goat

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

Lol. YAY GOAT.

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

greatest of all time?

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

first track on this is kind of awesome btw

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:33 (thirteen years ago)

I was the number one voter for this. I just think it's a joyous psychedelic record.

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

kinda assumed all the goat talk on the thread was some inside joke tbh X:

☕ (diamonddave85), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

I can't wait to see them in Brighton in April.

FAP?

emil.y, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

goathead

you probably don't wanna check their live show tho.

pandemic, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:34 (thirteen years ago)

i would have put this in my top ten. tremendous album. psychedelic shaman vibes.

Old Boy In Network (Michael B), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

holy shit, track 2 is great as well

really digging this

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:35 (thirteen years ago)

yay my #3
probably the album i listened to most in 2012 haha

nathey, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

Goat is fantastic, was my P&J #1. Would've been my #1 here too if I'd have voted.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:36 (thirteen years ago)

Goat at number 10? Hardcore! All is forgiven ILM :-) :-) although I don't think it's better than swans or Scott.

dog latin, Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:37 (thirteen years ago)

haha awesome! a highly controversial #16 in metal poll.
This is like when Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats went top 10 in last years poll.

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 31 January 2013 17:38 (thirteen years ago)

i liked this too at first, but ended up going right off it. all a bit too panto for me
