emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 23:06 (thirteen years ago)

think my #1 request for a t-swift rarities compilation would be a decent recording of the version of "lose yourself" that she does live

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 09:04 (thirteen years ago)

when i asked her about that she was like, omg you've done more research than any journalist i've ever talked to, how did you know about that? i kind of squinted at her and was like, uhhh i went on youtube. every other journalist fell in my estimation there

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 09:05 (thirteen years ago)

Lex, any chance she played your lovefest like a pro? I mean, I've been there, man.

"Breathe" has the most effortlessly classic melody ever.

uberweiss, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

yeah 'enchanted' is top five dead or alive taylor

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

love how the delivery of 'please don't be in love with some one else / please don't have somebody waiting on you ' is delivered squarely on the beat, functions like an incantation

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

When that first comes in on the lower octave and then switches up I'm always like "bitch stop hogging all the melodies"

Kind of odd that her record company hasn't put out any official remixes of "I Knew You Were Trouble." Would be an easy way to rack up a couple million more iTunes downloads for Tay, I would think.

any love for 'come back, be here'? had a dream last night in which it played like a music video. except the lyrics were all changed.

乒乓, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 13:08 (thirteen years ago)

Taylor's new duet with Tim McGraw, "Highway Don't Care," is kinda interesting. Interesting to hear her in the "guest star vocalist" role on a song she had no hand in writing.

Driver 8, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

her grammy thing was pretty dumb

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 11 February 2013 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

The thing where she was all like "Miguel, I've never heard of you but you're so sexy weshould sing together"?

how's life, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

No when she did her ex boyfriend as a bad english accent during that song lex loves? It was all over the gossip sites.

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 02:36 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it was immature

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 02:43 (thirteen years ago)

her grammy thing was pretty dumb

Yep. I'm not a fan of that song, and the Alice-in-Wonderland staging was ridiculously over-the-top. The performance, plus her "dis" of Harry Styles, generated more of a online backlash against Taylor than anything I've seen yet. I guess a backlash was inevitable - when you get as big as she has gotten, there's nowhere to go but down, but I wish she would focus a little bit more on her acoustic/country/indie side - i.e., tracks such as "Safe and Sound" and "Girl at Home," and less on the super-pop songs such as "We Are Never Ever." But the next single is going to be "22," so I guess she's gonna milk the super-pop side of the album for another three months. She ought to release "Stay Stay Stay" to country radio to shore up her support there, in my opinion.

Driver 8, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 20:26 (thirteen years ago)

The Grammy thing will add to the sense that Taylor is maybe not a very nice person, but what's funny about her is that none of this stuff really seems to matter. She prances through these ridiculous relationships, evidently bagging anyone she sets a mind to (actors, rock stars, Kennedys, more actors, more rock stars), pouts and makes faces and breezily moves on to the next -- and people make fun of her and whatever, but she just writes a song about it and sells another bajillion records. I'm mostly a fan of her music, not her persona, but even on the persona level she seems unusual. I can't quite think of a precedent for anyone getting away with her weird combination of innocent romantic/bed-hopping vixen.

I can't quite think of a precedent for anyone getting away with her weird combination of innocent romantic/bed-hopping vixen

It's not just that contradiction - there's also the contradiction of her being the innocent good girl who gets bullied by Kanye West - and who writes an anti-bullying anthem in "Mean" - but who also casually eviscerates her rivals and ex-boyfriends in songs such as "Better Than Revenge," "Dear John," and "All Too Well." I'm not sure how much longer she can keep up the innocent good-girl persona - One Direction's retarded tween fanbase predictably went ballistic when Taylor "made fun" of Harry Styles the other night by dropping a Brit accent into her Grammy performance of WANEGBT, but, in the larger culture, I think there's a growing perception of Taylor as someone who dates celebrities for a month or two and then writes mean songs about them. Never mind that her kind of songwriting has been part of pop music since time immemorial - think of the speculation as to which Stones' girlfriend Rolling Stones songs such as "Ruby Tuesday" or 'Angie" were "really about," not to mention the kiss-and-tell mythology of albums such as Rumours or Blood on the Tracks - the perception of Taylor as Serial Dater Who Writes Mean-Spirited Songs About Her Boyfriends is threatening to become her defining image. You're probably write that she'll just continue on her current course and continue to write more songs in this vein and sell bajillions more records in the process, but, if I were her, I would maybe aim higher than dating younger guys in flash-in-the-pan boy bands (and also aim my songwriting higher than more songs in the vein of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" - she's already proven over and over again that she can do much, much better than that).

Well, Taylor is a standardly pretty young woman, so obviously our culture has A Problem with thinking it's ok for her to do it.

all the other twinks with their fucked up dicks (billy), Sunday, 17 February 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)

also dropping a Brit accent in her Grammy thing was fucking hilarious and fit the spirit of a song that's meant to take juvenile glee ("weEEEE!" as you slide away from him) in not being with your ex ever ever. so troll on, Swift.

finding this less-than-obvious in light of her sales and airplay tbh

Taylor took to the DJ booth at the Universal afterparty (held at pop-up Soho House party on Princes Street) and played the following girl power anthems; Lauryn Hill - Doo Wop (That Thing), Adele - Rolling In The Deep, Kelis - Milkshake, and Eve ft. Gwen Stefani - Blow Ya Mind.
