ILM's Top 77 Albums of 2012

Disconnect From Desire was my #1 album a couple years ago. I couldn't even get enthused enough by this one to listen to it past last June or so.

Sadly, I think they're on a straight trajectory downwards since the debut.

ilm is the only place i've ever seen anyone talking about School of Seven Bells

gr80 i'll give it a go, i heard 'disconnect from desire' and liked it but didn't follow up on it beyond one listen.

I like how their sound just gets bigger with every passing record, the first one sounds really weedy and flat in comparison when you go back to it, although there are still some fantastic songs there. I miss the harmonies on this new one though.

It's interesting that the person whose display name consists of ❏❐❑❒ has complained the most about grayscale album covers.

Voices From The Lake & the Blondes LP were my two headphones albums this year; "foggy forest w/a highway bisecting it running into a metropolis" is OTM.

Dark York is great (as is Reservation) - the murkiness is kinda the point. Here's some non-"Wut" tracks:

I'm really surprised to see the School Of Seven Bells albums come in here, it's not that I wanted it to be higher, I just actually thought it would be.

Only problem I have with their second album is that I feel it was a bit too long, but I'm fond of more than a few of the songs on there.

Ghostory is fantastic, just as Disconnect From Desire and Alpinisms are fantastic

I love that all three albums use a similar toolkit to explore subtly different moods/headspaces, but what I really love is that they did their own version of "Soon" on this album and it was fucking awesome and should have placed super high on the tracks poll

also love non-classical songs where a dude gets to sing a bass G

it's never too late to vote cozen. the only problem being, your vote won't be counted anymore.

It's funny, I've seen them live three times and the album was in my top 40, yet at the same time I was somewhat bewildered by the extreme enthusiasm, e.g. super-annoying oversold crowd at the last show, #6 and 4 in the other polls. But good for them.

*waits for boring rock portion of the rollout to be over*

yesss, pleasantly surprised to see mungodelics place. it was a lot better than i thought it would be, i've come to really like every track.

People On Strong Stuff is the only one I ever skip.

Was pleasantly surprised at the highness of this one. Sanpaku and Kitchen Person, should they show up sometime soon, will likely feel the same way.

Well, either the "sure-fire certainties" from my ballot are going to place incredibly high, or they weren't actually sure-fire certainties at all. I'm hoping the former.

this is an album I always think I'm going to enjoy more than I actually do when I play it
