"The name is both a cheeky pun and a beautifully rounded image; infused with the nostalgia of innocent childhood and boyish adventure, yet suggestive of maturation towards experience, adulthood and disillusionment."
Sorry PR folks, the name can only be described as utter wank. Why? Because in the UK there's no such thing as Girl Scouts... they're Girl GUIDES. What you've done is try and shoehorn an existing piece of wry humour (e.g. Powel's book was called "Scouting For Boys"/scoutmasters are notorious child abusers) into something that totally misses the point. It attempts to say "we want to be funny and camp (pun intended) - we're a bunch of cheeky lads - definitely not pedos."
Shame, at least if they were "that pedo band" there'd be something to distinguish them from the other faces in the sea of Anglo-dross that they're flailing about in.
(FWIW I've not even bothered to click the link or listen to their music, so please tell me if my snap-judgement of the band is woefully wrong.)

The Michaela Strachan song is on there BTW, as a secret track.
So James Bond ISN'T 6:59 ? :-(((

expect ilxors of 2027 to revive acclaim this as Prius Pop or something. the piano is alright y know. if it was marti pellow it would be really good.
― acrobat, Monday, 3 September 2007 19:53 (eighteen years ago)
no, that's pretty much otm (the anglo-dross bit anyway... couldn't really comment on the paedo angle tbh)
― tissp, Monday, 3 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)
expect ilxors of 2027 to revive acclaim this as Prius Pop or something.
Uh I'm not reading a lot of acclaim in that Mondeo Pop thread if that's what yr getting at... I mean I really don't endorse the idea of a 'hivemind' on here but if someone tried to make an album that was 100% no returns guaranteed to encounter blanket ILM hate, this would be the one
― DJ Mencap, Monday, 3 September 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)
Thread could do with max r's view.

I was shopping for lingerie for muh wuhmmun in debenhams last night. She got some nice stuff, and it was 1/2 price in the sale! SCORE. Pity we had to listen to this on the in-store TV thing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFzREgP3RiU
it is seriously the worst record I have ever heard. Leaden playing that sounds like they got shit musicians and used protools to pull their performances into time, shit singing, shit lyrics. Shit, shit shit. Are all their lyrics dislikeable butthurt whining about not getting the girl, that makes you think the singer will be getting a restraining order for stalking in a few more weeks? GET ONE REALDOLL, LOSER. This is some awful rubbish. Fuck these people, they deserve pain.
― Pashmina, Friday, 18 January 2008 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

It is whineable, possibly
― Tracer Hand, Friday, 18 January 2008 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

Savage tunee - was this a mishearing of Jimmy Tarbuck? "Oho, lovely tuney, I play it on my iPoddy when I'm on the green with Brucie, Lynchie, Dan Hipgravey and TV's Tim Vincenty, oho, Maggie etcy."

Every single song is exactly the same yet still as someone has already said, shitter than the first and I cannot stand the pianists face. Plus the glamour model that appeared in that first vid must have fallen on hard times (joke somewhere) to be convinced that being in their vid would lead to more fame.
― VeronaInTheClub, Tuesday, 15 July 2008 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

This is a bit like hating on Coldplay or Phil Collins by now isn't it?
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)
Kaiser Chiefs, SfG, anyone who stands up to play piano while wearing a pale Fred Perry.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)
Suggest their record company use this quote to promote their next release
― Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)
No, far more stalker-pop.
I diarrhea'ed all over the Coldplay thread about them. I had no idea they were quite so bad. Honestly, I know that ILM will get it collective knickers in a twist over anything, but...
They're like a blander, more insipid, more mediocre version of Maroon 5 - and I didn't think that was possible!
― post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:20 (seventeen years ago)
xpostsColdplay are better. Collins is a LOT better.
― Cittaslow Mazza (blueski), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:21 (seventeen years ago)
KC and SfG are way worse than Coldplay or PCollins.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:21 (seventeen years ago)
That's Mick Talbot had it then (xxxxxp).
― synths and drum machines (e.g. Simmonds) (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:21 (seventeen years ago)
But nowhere near as bad as Elbow (xxp).
...and I'm not even going to get started on how the phrase "date rape indie" is possibly more offensive than the aesthetic content of their music. >:-(
― post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 12:21 (seventeen years ago)
Hey have you ever noticed Alanis Morrissette doesn't even know what irony is etc etc?

they were on the telly once in their heyday and for some reason the main guy was tuning his guitar and he actually didn't know how to do it.
so basically scouting for girls are punk rock.

They are currently playing a festival across the river from me and they are so terrible they make me want to drown myself, except the tide is out, can I just chuck myself in and hope the mud plugs my ears?

― I am the stranger, killing the Boer (Boring, Maryland), Sunday, 25 May 2025 23:57 (one year ago)
The nostalgia cycle is so strange. And it feels like it's lengthening?
The rest of the bands at the festival were cover bands. It was not a music festival, it was a 'foodie festival' whatever that is. Of the bands we suffered through, one did 60s rock, the next 80s synthpop. So we were drifting round the local garden centre first to the Stones and the Animals then to Soft Cell and The Buggles.
The gap from (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction to Everybody Wants To Rule The World was 20 years. But the gap from Tears For Fears to today is more like 40 years. Is the widening nostalgia gap due to the idea that 20 years ago was rubbish like Scouting for Girls? But then again from the (audible) reaction of the crowd, people were responding enthusiastically.
― Etherwave, Monday, 26 May 2025 06:33 (one year ago)
They had one no. 1 single, three top 10 singles, a no. 1 album, so they're bound to have a few fans.
