tony bleach, Wednesday, 12 February 2003 23:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Crazy. Loft above Atticus, yes.

charlie va (charlie va), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

MOSUROCK! The moz that rocks!

MuffinX, Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Crazy. Loft above Atticus, yes.

How did this happen? What happened to all the vinyl in the Clark basement?

I feared something like this when, in the years I was there, no one took the initiative to bring WESU's concerns to the attention of the administration in re. renovating Clark Hall and building a new campus center. I take part of the blame.

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

P.S. You can blame me (and Sara Erase Errata too) for separating the vinyl into genre categories so discrete as to be unintelligible to most DJs. ("Wait, does this belong in Folk, or Folk Revival, or Old Time, or Old Time Revival, or--")

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know about the history questions. I just came to Wesleyan as a grad student and just got a show. I don't even really know anyone there. I'll ask around and send you an email if you want.

I was excited to learn Erase Errata is from Wesleyan. WESU is bringing them back in April, I think.

charlie va (charlie va), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

1/2 of Erase Errata is from Wesleyan.

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 13 February 2003 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Mosurock! Le moz qui rock!

MuffinX, Thursday, 13 February 2003 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Erase Errata played a supoib show a couple years back @ the Eclectic House w/ Panthers & the Dresden Dolls. It was awesome!

Sweet crap, there's actually someone else in CT that posts here!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 14 February 2003 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck. I can't beleive WESU is above Atticus. Atticus, which came in and killed locally owned college bookstores in the 90s, along with B&N, can't be sending good vibes up there. May not be long before the station sells out to Clear Channel and switches to Top 40 I guess. Barf.

j breitling (BlastsofStatic), Friday, 14 February 2003 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

mike lupica! mike lupica!

wait, what name does mosurak post under? shouldn't he be molesting the populace on chug?

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 15 February 2003 09:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I've reviving this thread to tell everyone that Andy Waltzer's old show is great. The archives are here. This show is especially great.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 28 February 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I am partial to the shows that Brian Turner does (makes the day job go faster) and Robert Lim's JANITOR FROM MARS (and not only because he plays my records every now and then)

I loved being a Special Guest Expert on RHUBARB CAKE a few years ago.

jodi shapiro (burun), Friday, 28 February 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm surprised that none of the fmu rock 'n' roll guys have been mentioned yet, so here's one... dave the spazz's "music to spazz by"... three hours of relentless energy and the best talking over noise around

tony? metal director? sakes alive!

Richard Gensiak, Saturday, 1 March 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Tom Scharpling and the Best Show On WFMU is the best.

I would say that Mr. Finewine is the second best.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Saturday, 1 March 2003 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

hi

mosurock (mosurock), Saturday, 1 March 2003 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

How many of you name checkers have ever contributed money to WFMU? You have a chance to right now. The annaul fundraiser on until March 16. Thanks in advance.

Log Jammer, Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I have. So there.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I pledged during the Best Show last week.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I have been shamed and I will be donating money posthaste.

Amateurist (amateurist), Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

haven't, won't. find a BUSINESS MODEL, you shmucks!!!

your null fame (yournullfame), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

also, the sad truth of the matter is that i live in new jersey and can't get the station until i drive 45 minutes into north jersey. and inevitably when i do it's someone playing boring (but totally obscure!!!!111) bullshit.

your null fame (yournullfame), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, "your full name", the station is on the "internet" (you may be familiar with this), so you can always listen that way. They do have a "totally obscure" and "boring" "business model". It's called "not for profit", you "shmuck".

Log Jammer, Monday, 10 March 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

the "business model" "comment" was "a joke." "jerk."

and nothing on FMU is so compelling that i'd need to listen to it "on the internet" - great that they exist, sure, but entirely overrated.

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Overrated? And you claim to be from Jersey? Just exactly where are they overrated?

Do you have a comparison at the very least?
Of course not, because your argument is stupid.
"Great they exist" "entirely overrated" "sad truth is...I can't get the station" "boring"...
You're an ass.

Log Jammer, Monday, 10 March 2003 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

alright, if we're going to get down to brass tacks - fuck you. is that enough of a response? or do i have to waste another paragraph re-stating my personal opinions in single syllables to appease you?

find me someone (or several people) saying something bad about WFMU (other than "they play jewish music every damn morning!") and then i'll say, "ahh, you were right, they're entirely underrated!" but until then i say yeah, great, free-form radio - but that doesn't mean every show is compelling (most of them aren't). but feel free to be a blustering shithead some more if it makes you feel good.

your null fame (yournullfame), Monday, 10 March 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

WFMU does a lot more than play music, and there's a lot more than just obscure difficult-to-listen-to music as well, to be fair.

Not every show on the station is meant for everyone, and that's fine. It's not meant to be a Clearchannel sort of thing, where it's the same 24-7. I don't listen to/like a lot of their programming, but my intense love of Tom Scharpling's hilarious Best Show, Dorian Devins' interview show The Speakeasy, Downtown Soulville, Aircheck, and the Audio Kitchen makes WFMU the best radio station in the world enough for me. There's a number of good music programs, but I don't get excited about them the same way - Laura Cantrell's The Radio Thrift Shop, Scott Williams, Douglas Wolk, Mosurock, Donna Summer, Frank O'Toole, and Doug Schulkind all play plenty of good music.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks Matthew for the clear headed response, obviously not something you'll see from your Princeton Record Exchange backroom cock tasting compatriot. Obviously an unambitious (thankfully) hack who, since he has absolutely nothing to offer in the production of music, radio, writing, or academia will continue to polish his hairless nuts here in the shadow of anonymity. At least here people are forced to look at his posts whereas the real world only offers him disgusted looks and disregard.
--Your Blustering Shithead friend.
(see ya)

Log Jammer, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The hell? This is like Naipaul and Theroux going after each other's throats.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

ahh, log jammer, you're a sad little anonymous shitheel, aren't you? love to know who you actually are behind your little pseudonym, but i guess you're a coward. eh? so have fun "backroom cock tasting" the FMU staff, babydoll.

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, which is Naipaul and which is Theroux? Just for future reference...

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 02:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Flip a coin.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

mmm...condescension.

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Can somebody please taste my cock? I need a second opinion.

mosurock (mosurock), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

hey didn't i try to download some Vashti Bunyan from you the other day?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 04:33 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah you did. it's not gonna work. some users just can't download from other users. i asled the soulseek people and they say it's an asynchronous program and that's just the way it is. don't feel bad -- some guy's been trying to get Divine Styler off of me for months.

mosurock (mosurock), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 05:46 (twenty-three years ago)

no worries, i've been meaning to buy the album for ages anyway, should probably get off my ass and do so

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 05:47 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
i'm listening now to the live feed, because the archives won't work on this computer, and i would like to ask glenn jones to SHUT UP AND PLAY MUSIC

amateur!st (amateurist), Sunday, 25 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I Like Teenage Wasteland

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Sunday, 25 April 2004 21:33 (twenty-two years ago)

six months pass...
Jesus, this guy just on now (Dave Mandl) has just rambled on about absolutely nothing for 6 minutes and then has the cheek to say "so many records, so little time"

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 October 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I believe he said "so few records, so much time."

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Thursday, 28 October 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Is Steinski still on there? I love his records. Please tell me about his show!

Don, Thursday, 28 October 2004 00:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Steinski hasn't done a show in sometime -- it was called A Rough Mix, and was a TON of work for him to come up with an hour of what he does. I get him to do the occassional special, he hosted a ReMixology show last year and gave us an hour mix. But he's still around and pretty active on our staff email list, probably will be at our Fair manning a table or two next week.

Brian Turner (btwfmu), Thursday, 28 October 2004 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

man there was this kenny g show from like two years ago where he just fucked up some beatles and some stones but mainly beatles and mainly white album, too good, tell him he rules.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 28 October 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he lurks on ile, cinniblount.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Woah jumping into old thread I've never seen before, but chalk up one more WESU DJ.

Matt Stroman (Soultron), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Not DJs, but I like Joe Frank (I think that's his name -- the guy that does the weird narratives with background music), and the guy that does the frighteningly meticulous conspiracy stuff about Bush's Nazi ties.

Hurting (Hurting), Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Best FMU DJ, all time: Jefferson (only because it's Jeff Mangum)

Best FMU DJ, currently: OC DJ

cdwill, Thursday, 28 October 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, on another thread, Douglas observed that Steinski "would rather just do 2 or 3 tracks a year than release something that was whack," so I can imagine how much he worked at doing an hour. I really love NO FEAR and the current STEINSKI'S BURNIN' OUT OF CONTROL:THE SUGAR HILL MIX. So his hour is in the WFMU archive now? (My soundcard is whack, most of the time.)

Don, Thursday, 28 October 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i haven't listened to wfmu since i haven't had broadband--at least 1 1/2 years.

Really weird to have a schedule without The Frow Show (he'll be back!), but Kendraplex is a good substitute.

better than ezra collective soul asylum (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 9 September 2025 20:02 (nine months ago)

I am deeply sad not to have the Frow Show for the next 9 months.

Noob Layman (WmC), Tuesday, 9 September 2025 20:56 (nine months ago)

On the WFMU homepage:

"The old WFMU blog, Beware of the Blog, has not been updated since 2015, but we've continued to keep all the pages accessible to the public. Our host Typepad is now going out of business (let this be a lesson as to how unsafe "the cloud" is), and all blog pages will disappear on September 30th. These pages will not be available to the public after that date, so get 'em while you can! There is a lot of great audio and written material on the blog, so if you want to grab any of it, please do it now: https://blog.wfmu.org";

Similar to Alex in NYC's blog :(

Thought I read somewhere that someone else will be spinning reggae in his place, but sad he will be gone.

curmudgeon, Monday, 1 December 2025 20:21 (six months ago)

I usually listen to Destination: OUT on Sunday mornings but listened to Jeff Sarge's finale and liked that it seemed like a cheerful signoff. I note that he wasn't on continuously for 41 years — I remember when he was left off the schedule once a few years ago and it was clear that it wasn't his idea. He was back on at the next schedule changeover.

hey man, smell my finger, then another finger, then cigarette (WmC), Monday, 1 December 2025 22:30 (six months ago)

Hell, maybe I just imagined that. I don't see the gap in his playlists, just the one in the early days of covid.

Very sad to see Hearty White is wrapping it up, four more Miracle Nutritions to go.

scarce due to allocated reason (WmC), Friday, 8 May 2026 18:29 (one month ago)

I love his skits, honestly if he just did those and called it a podcast it would be a great continuation
