lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

'cause i read you should never leave a fight unresolved

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

i've just realised that "treacherous" IS SECRETLY A MIGUEL SONG

like seriously you can hear it, right?

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

that's when you came in wearing a football helmet

uberweiss, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:17 (thirteen years ago)

haha "stay stay stay" is better at giddiness than "starlight" imo

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:18 (thirteen years ago)

iirc y'all were into the line "have ten kids and teach 'em how to dream" but i still haaaaaate it

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:20 (thirteen years ago)

"treacherous" explores it's key theme - the split between head and heart, the irresistible almost inevitable compulsion to do the "wrong" thing - in so many different and subtle ways, it's hard to top lyrically. The fact that the performance is so affecting makes it kinda ridiculous in its gratuitous greatness

Tim F, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:21 (thirteen years ago)

^^^ pretty dumb yeah but it works in context. The song is about how joy shapes memories.

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

guess the "have ten kids" line is kinda het but I roll that way & it's kinda key to how I've felt for a long time about my strongest loves

Euler, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

i think one of my (endless) favourite things about "treacherous" is the contrast between the very consciously delicate verses, where she might say she doesn't know if it's a choice but she's definitely trying to present herself as this powerless fragile flower who just can't help being swept away. which is the right performance for those words but also disingenuous, so when she actually gives in and owns her own power & agency - "and i will GET YOU, GET YOU ALONE" - it's such a fucking rush

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 21:24 (thirteen years ago)

It'd be nice to promote a crosstown classic and have every fan of Taylor Swift listen to the new Tegan & Sara, and every fan of Tegan & Sara listen to the Taylor Swift. Then they should fill out a survey.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

did we talk about this remix/bootleg of I Knew You Were Trouble.?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sY9WQMrvJnw

The verses are maybe not as good as the driving propulsion of the verses in the original, but the little winding bit in the chorus is great and the drops are kind of awesome?

I have been enjoying it at least.

twinkin' and drinkin' and ready to fly (Alex in Montreal), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)

i am now in the kind of state where i'll say "holy ground" is her best song ever

Agreed. Up there with "Enchanted" and "Last Kiss" as her best song ever in my book.

Driver 8, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

Not apropos of anything much, but I started thinking about the inevitable Greatest Hits collection today. Just sticking to the actual hits, and I don't even like some of them, it's already pretty amazing:

Tim McGraw
Our Song
Picture to Burn
Tears on My Guitar
Love Story
White Horse
You Belong With Me
Fifteen
Crazier
Fearless
Today Was a Fairytale
Mine
Back to December
Mean
Sparks Fly
The Story of Us
Ours
Safe and Sound
We Are Never Ever
Begin Again
I Knew You Were Trouble

21 songs! All but one top 40 U.S. ("Story of Us" peaked at 41), 12 top 20, nine top 10, one #1.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 21:16 (thirteen years ago)

(And that's just the pop chart. Per wikipedia, she's had seven Country #1's.)

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

pretty sure my top two taylor songs now are enchanted and treacherous

monotony, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 22:12 (thirteen years ago)

didn't know the love for "Treacherous"!

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

sorry -- "Enchanted."

the little prince of inane false binary hype (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah "Enchanted" is a huge huge huge deep cut. Such an abundant song.

Tim F, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 22:21 (thirteen years ago)

Still more fab deep cuts:

Permanent Marker (unreleased)

Driver 8, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 22:36 (thirteen years ago)

around when speak now was released i went on my first date in approx two years and "enchanted" was sooo important

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 23:06 (thirteen years ago)

think my #1 request for a t-swift rarities compilation would be a decent recording of the version of "lose yourself" that she does live

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 09:04 (thirteen years ago)

when i asked her about that she was like, omg you've done more research than any journalist i've ever talked to, how did you know about that? i kind of squinted at her and was like, uhhh i went on youtube. every other journalist fell in my estimation there

lex pretend, Thursday, 31 January 2013 09:05 (thirteen years ago)

Lex, any chance she played your lovefest like a pro? I mean, I've been there, man.

"Breathe" has the most effortlessly classic melody ever.

uberweiss, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

yeah 'enchanted' is top five dead or alive taylor

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

love how the delivery of 'please don't be in love with some one else / please don't have somebody waiting on you ' is delivered squarely on the beat, functions like an incantation

乒乓, Thursday, 31 January 2013 13:43 (thirteen years ago)

When that first comes in on the lower octave and then switches up I'm always like "bitch stop hogging all the melodies"

that PRFFTT & Svyable remix is nice

Kind of odd that her record company hasn't put out any official remixes of "I Knew You Were Trouble." Would be an easy way to rack up a couple million more iTunes downloads for Tay, I would think.

Lol that is exactly what I expected, in the best sense.

Tim F, Monday, 4 February 2013 21:06 (thirteen years ago)

any love for 'come back, be here'? had a dream last night in which it played like a music video. except the lyrics were all changed.

乒乓, Tuesday, 5 February 2013 13:08 (thirteen years ago)

Taylor's new duet with Tim McGraw, "Highway Don't Care," is kinda interesting. Interesting to hear her in the "guest star vocalist" role on a song she had no hand in writing.

Driver 8, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 16:49 (thirteen years ago)

her grammy thing was pretty dumb

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 11 February 2013 23:23 (thirteen years ago)

The thing where she was all like "Miguel, I've never heard of you but you're so sexy weshould sing together"?

how's life, Tuesday, 12 February 2013 01:09 (thirteen years ago)

No when she did her ex boyfriend as a bad english accent during that song lex loves? It was all over the gossip sites.

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 02:36 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it was immature
