I voted for Purity Ring, mid ballot. Can't really add much to the comments on the PR thread, but its a interesting mix of teen poetry recital and UK bass that works despite its ingredients.

with perhaps the exception of r-r-r-r-rhythm (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

gr8080 otm. helpful input for future polls imo. on the plus side i agree that jf's look is pretty neat and he's doing a great job on this, for which i'm grateful.

xp *cries about pictures*

suze (Matt P), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)

i really can't decide what is worse, the name or the music. just speaking of purity ring, that's probably applicable for the albums before as well. what is the appeal of this kind of generic progressive rock music with a digital touch?

miesepeter (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:55 (thirteen years ago)

clams casino is 1/2 of purity ring, right? its weird because i'm into is solo stuff but cant get w/ PR

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:56 (thirteen years ago)

oh word? I had no idea Clams Casino's dayjob is Purity Ring. Makes sense, tho.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

i don't think its the same guy or if it is i was completely unaware

ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:58 (thirteen years ago)

i heard a couple songs off this on the radio and it reminded me a bit of the most recent Dirty Projectors album - does it qualify as progressive rock? I guess I'm picky when it comes to what progressive rock I like - as I didn't like either Purity Ring or Dirty Projectors.

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:01 (thirteen years ago)

didnt like this one as much as two suns in the end but its still good

ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:03 (thirteen years ago)

bat for lashes is prob my fav clams casino project

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

way behind but the ricardo villalobos album sounded so stillborn to me for the most part, worse than tedious autechre. i did enjoy one track on it though, "samma," buried in the middle. it's like autechre when they aren't tedious, lol.

suze (Matt P), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:05 (thirteen years ago)

I never hear anyone talk about it, really, but "Oh Yeah" is my favorite track on this record. "All Your Gold" close behind. Outside of those, I neither love nor hate anything about it. It just is.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:06 (thirteen years ago)

oh j0rdy

Lovely as ever, but nothing on THM has latched on to my brainpan like "What's a Girl to Do" or "Daniel". Production here was perhaps too stripped down for its own good.

with perhaps the exception of r-r-r-r-rhythm (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:10 (thirteen years ago)

better than the album before but still not very compelling. except laura. she reminds me a little of tori amos. esp. on oh yeah. without the fairy queen aura.

miesepeter (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:11 (thirteen years ago)

Too low. Not as instantly engaging as Two Suns but a really rich, rewarding piece of work. Especially love Laura, Lilies, All Your Gold, Oh Yeah and Marilyn.

Deafening silence (DL), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:12 (thirteen years ago)

I never hear anyone talk about it, really, but "Oh Yeah" is my favorite track on this record

Yeah, that's a good one. I kind of hear an echo between the "oh yeah"s there and on the Chap's "Even Your Friend": http://youtu.be/frrO0y2pqZQ

jaymc, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

three strong songs i that i can remember off the top of my head on the haunted man (marylin, laura, all your gold), but the rest was a bit mushy iirc

Jaap and roids (NickB), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:17 (thirteen years ago)

marilyn

Jaap and roids (NickB), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

she names all her best songs after people

Dan S, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

'ronald reagan' was a p bad song tho

乒乓, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:19 (thirteen years ago)

she reminds me a little of tori amos.

every time someone posts this about B4L it delays my giving her a real chance because i just go off and listen to tori for a while instead

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:20 (thirteen years ago)

If you guys want to look at the albums in color, I made an appendix imgur gallery. Only up to #51 so far. I'll do the rest after lunch:

I often have a problem with BfL albums where I don't immediately link songs to their titles but it was even more pronounced on this album; before the tracks poll I could have only told you the title of "Laura"

having said that, I really really love "Lillies", "Oh Yeah", "Horses of the Sun" and "All Your Gold" as well

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:21 (thirteen years ago)

damn a bunch of my faves hung up in the 40s

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

bfl was my #3, it's a fantastic record imo

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:26 (thirteen years ago)

There was a Purity Ring thread? Shrines was my number one. Love that shit to pieces apart from 'Grandloves', which had a hugely annoying guy singing one of the verses. Pretty much resigned to the fact that ppl are sorta indifferent to them now, but when I first heard 'Ungirthed' I thought OMG this is gonna be huuuuge.

Mercer Finn, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:27 (thirteen years ago)

i am now going to listen to "lillies" again and be completely baffled by the stripped-down production comments

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

BfL suffered by dint of coming in on the heels of a bunch of other albums that I was super obsessed with and I therefore didn't give it as much time as I did the previous two; however, I did give it enough time to put it on my ballot

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

haha "stripped-down production" won't make any sense unless you play that song right after "Glass"

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i mean two suns was maybe a little overstuffed in places, i'd call haunted man "more focused" w/out necessarily having less going on

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:33 (thirteen years ago)

they're both awesome albums, i guess i just feel w/e ppl were saying earlier about anco and dirty proj abt how haunted man was received

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

I heard a lot of records this year that sounded fine and diverting but not too many that had this much detail and substance and unfolded a bit more each time I played it. Not that I wouldn't have liked another pop song as good as Daniel.

Deafening silence (DL), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:35 (thirteen years ago)

the last song "deep sea diver" is pretty impressive, it has something haunted about it, some nice percussion on it.

miesepeter (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:35 (thirteen years ago)

"rest your head" is a major sleeper on the back half of the record, probably my 2nd fav track on it after "oh yeah".

ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:36 (thirteen years ago)

4 more today?
