idg why greyscaling the art for the art of it is so strange to people. did none of you ever read zines on newsprint? OLD SKOOL DIY! Or maybe just a choice.
You should have printed it out in b&w, ran it through a crappy Xerox copier a few times to get that cruddy 5th-gen copy look, then scanned it back in - or better yet snapped a photo of it with an Instagram sepia filter (just kidding).

a thread thats supposed to be a DEFINITIVE DOCUMENT of ilx's music listening for a whole year
what
― congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:39 (thirteen years ago)
I would have cared more about the Frankie Rose if neighboring furrows weren't being plowed by So7B, Chairlift, Exitmusic etc. last year

― ❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:41 (thirteen years ago)
on this listenthrough I already like Frankie Rose a good bit more than Chairlift and I never heard Exitmusic
So7B is unimpeachable

Not to diminish what's actually taking place here, but everything in this thread is just chatter. The definitive document is a spreadsheet that seandalai will share once the rollout is over. No pics on that baby!

Wasn't Frankie Rose in some hipster girl band 5 yrs ago, or am I thinking of someone else?
― sarahell, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:43 (thirteen years ago)
have 2 say oggie u got a good knack of making me kinda wanna revisit albums i know i don't like

fittingly i enjoyed you pissing yrself w/ glee at how terrible laurel halo was.
― ogmor, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:44 (thirteen years ago)
yeah personally I'm just a pretty visual person so I'd like my 'first impression' of these albums I haven't heard of to be the actual, color version. (granted that even among color vversions there will be differences w/r/t to reproduction like color saturation etc.) anyways carry on

She's logged time as both a Vivian and a Dum Dum girl
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:45 (thirteen years ago)
calling your band cloud nothings is basically saying to the world "no need to care about us"
I think I wrote them off for a while because of the dumb name. Checked out Attack on Memory early in the year after a friend enthusiastically recommended it, but it didn't actually click for me until months later. Ended up liking it enough to vote for it, though.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
both of those bands sucked iirc
― sarahell, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
im sure i'll be embarrassed by this record in like 3 years but its really sweet right now
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:46 (thirteen years ago)
I thought 'Know Me' was unbelievably flimsy when I listened to it but the rest of the Frankie Rose album really burrowed its way in with me and I ended up playing it loads. Such a good Sunday evening album, something about it felt really old-school 4AD as well but not in a useless derivative way. It really tails off in the final third, but the middle section, from Gospel/Grace to Had We Had It is gorgeous.

I voted for Purity Ring, mid ballot. Can't really add much to the comments on the PR thread, but its a interesting mix of teen poetry recital and UK bass that works despite its ingredients.
― with perhaps the exception of r-r-r-r-rhythm (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
gr8080 otm. helpful input for future polls imo. on the plus side i agree that jf's look is pretty neat and he's doing a great job on this, for which i'm grateful.
xp *cries about pictures*
― suze (Matt P), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
i really can't decide what is worse, the name or the music. just speaking of purity ring, that's probably applicable for the albums before as well. what is the appeal of this kind of generic progressive rock music with a digital touch?
― miesepeter (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:55 (thirteen years ago)
clams casino is 1/2 of purity ring, right? its weird because i'm into is solo stuff but cant get w/ PR
― ❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:56 (thirteen years ago)
oh word? I had no idea Clams Casino's dayjob is Purity Ring. Makes sense, tho.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:58 (thirteen years ago)
i don't think its the same guy or if it is i was completely unaware
― ciderpress, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 18:58 (thirteen years ago)
i heard a couple songs off this on the radio and it reminded me a bit of the most recent Dirty Projectors album - does it qualify as progressive rock? I guess I'm picky when it comes to what progressive rock I like - as I didn't like either Purity Ring or Dirty Projectors.

― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:05 (thirteen years ago)
way behind but the ricardo villalobos album sounded so stillborn to me for the most part, worse than tedious autechre. i did enjoy one track on it though, "samma," buried in the middle. it's like autechre when they aren't tedious, lol.
― suze (Matt P), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:05 (thirteen years ago)
I never hear anyone talk about it, really, but "Oh Yeah" is my favorite track on this record. "All Your Gold" close behind. Outside of those, I neither love nor hate anything about it. It just is.

Lovely as ever, but nothing on THM has latched on to my brainpan like "What's a Girl to Do" or "Daniel". Production here was perhaps too stripped down for its own good.
― with perhaps the exception of r-r-r-r-rhythm (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:10 (thirteen years ago)
better than the album before but still not very compelling. except laura. she reminds me a little of tori amos. esp. on oh yeah. without the fairy queen aura.
― miesepeter (alex in mainhattan), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:11 (thirteen years ago)
Too low. Not as instantly engaging as Two Suns but a really rich, rewarding piece of work. Especially love Laura, Lilies, All Your Gold, Oh Yeah and Marilyn.
― Deafening silence (DL), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:12 (thirteen years ago)
I never hear anyone talk about it, really, but "Oh Yeah" is my favorite track on this record
Yeah, that's a good one. I kind of hear an echo between the "oh yeah"s there and on the Chap's "Even Your Friend": http://youtu.be/frrO0y2pqZQ
― jaymc, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 19:15 (thirteen years ago)
three strong songs i that i can remember off the top of my head on the haunted man (marylin, laura, all your gold), but the rest was a bit mushy iirc

she reminds me a little of tori amos.
every time someone posts this about B4L it delays my giving her a real chance because i just go off and listen to tori for a while instead
