forgot Frank Ocean

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:51 (thirteen years ago)

wonder where something like death grips will place.

charlie h, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

But back to the countdown as is, first time playing this Orbital and it's really working for me so I'd be obliged Mr Fever if you would only post albums I have already heard over the next hour so I can continue to enjoy this.

pandemic, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

I'd be pretty happy with that list, DL. Don't like all of it by a long shot but it's a good range of things.

emil.y, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:55 (thirteen years ago)

i had no idea what Armor On was. had to look it up lol

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:57 (thirteen years ago)

much obliged

pandemic, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

ilm favourite that one.

I'd be happy with that top 9 (even though i've come to the conclusion Frank Ocean is just never going to be the one for me), so it's probably wishful thinking.

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 14:58 (thirteen years ago)

cooly's leather-clad fist looks very shiny and menacing in b&w

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

my last post was xposts rE: Armor On

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:00 (thirteen years ago)

really hope t-swift misses the top 10

How well is Farrah Abraham going to do?

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:01 (thirteen years ago)

cooly g!!!!

great record. was surprised to find it just missed my ballot - it was among several excellent records floating around between 15-30 for me. in the summer it would've made it, it's a great lazy day in the heat album (but it's the emotional undercurrent that really makes it...)

playin' me
what this world needs now
trouble (the best coldplay cover ever)

How well is Farrah Abraham going to do?

top 20 for sure, holding out hope for the top 10. get the feeling it'll get lots of high votes.

really hope t-swift misses the top 10

traitor

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

farrah abraham could well be a lock

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

Do we reckon Old Ideas has any chance of placing?

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:03 (thirteen years ago)

forgot how gorgeous/sinister the strings are as they build up in "what this world needs now"

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:04 (thirteen years ago)

think i had cooly g in my top ten. you could maybe find fault with her productions or find her voice a bit lacking, but together they create a really good effect. swoony sensuality overcoming anguished emotion, like being too weak to fight in a dream

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

having serious cognitive dissonance abt the fact that there is a newish artist named "cooly g"

an eagle named "small government" (call all destroyer), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

Dirty Projectors: Kind of surprised this was so low on the list. This album really grew on me to where I can now say that it is quite a bit better than the last one, although it doesn't have that one catchy song like Stillness is the Move. The songs overall are more solid and enjoyable.

Cooly G: I wanted to like this album but her singing is just way too underwhelming. I wish she had focused more on the instrumental/production side of things.

Moodles, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

Found Cooly G very cool if taken on a track-by-track basis. A whole album drags a bit though.

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:17 (thirteen years ago)

It was about the sustained whacked-out atmosphere for me

a la recherche du tempbans perdu (NickB), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:18 (thirteen years ago)

yeah it really worked as an album for me, such a languorous and sensual vibe

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

maybe i just need to be feeling it to feel it.. you could pretty easily fit Cooly's stuff into the same "austere dance" category as a lot of the dance records ITT, and for those you really have to be in the zone

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

Voted for Cooly G, definitely a grower.

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

she is the opposite of austere o_0

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

i should listen again then

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

my prediction for top 10:

Kendrick
Miguel
Dawn
Taylor
Jessie
Swans
Future
Frank
Grimes
I had a tenth one but I forgot who it was...?

every dog latin has his day (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

Just catching up with the Spotify playlist - Twin Shadow is very good, but I've only just figured out that it's not Paul Young but Fergal Sharkey that he reminds me of.

Andrew Farrell, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:24 (thirteen years ago)

swing lo magellan is very very good but i think people didn't like it as much because it was more subtle than bitte orca and didn't have a big pop song like "stillness is the move" on it.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

haven't really heard any of this so far but the three I'm most eager to listen to are Vatican Shadow, Laurel Halo, and Shackleton

Loved the last album, didn't hear a single track from this. Same thing with Animal Collective. There definitely seems to be a massive fall from grace of these guys, which kind of makes me want to give them more of a fair shout, but there was too much other interesting stuff going on this year

^emil.y speaks for me here as well. Though w DP I have no excuse, since I loved "Gun Has No Trigger"

Starting to think I should've made the color ones b&w and the b&w ones color.

re: that cooly g cover of Trouble: most music is alright really or what? No more opinions necessary.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

maybe i just need to be feeling it to feel it..

I love everything about this sentence

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

Japandroids are just so fucking functional. Even that album cover, I mean come on, can you get excited by that? Also, their name put me off listening them for a matter of years.

dog latin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:34 (thirteen years ago)

should've made the b&w ones w&b.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

Prefer the first Japandroids record but this one grew on me as the year went.

pandemic, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

any chance fiona apple places high? i was sad she didn't make it onto the singles list

how the fuck did I miss this Cooly G album

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

Pazz & Jop: #4?? christ that's high

charlie h, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

but I find the drums a little flimsy and annoying, and the fact that he goes into long stretches of just those tinny beats is off-putting (NB: I am listening on shit computer speakers).

sorry, going way back here, but: noooooo ;_; no one would like shackleton if they only listened to it on shit computer speakers. i mean, nothing wrong with getting a little preview like that, but you just have to hear it for real at some point if you're at all curious about it.

probably because the artist's name was 'Cooly G'

乒乓, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

Love that record

Gukbe, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

Okay! There's definitely enough from previewing it that way that I like, so I'll take your word that it'll come together more sonically if I listen properly, and will attempt to make that happen soon.

xpost to karlarkaralakarkrlaaaaa

emil.y, Tuesday, 29 January 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

I tried to work up a Coolio G joke but my brain isn't working. Carry on.
