and also we don't know these people or what actually goes on in their lives
what we can and still should speak out against is how the narrative is being flogged to the public in her music as some sort of doomed tragic romance

this is kind of how I've come to think of a couple of my friends in abusive relationships
― puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 17:41 (thirteen years ago)
I get my old man think-of-the-kids on about that shit. young girls look up to Rihanna so "it's my choice to get back with the abuser" is a shitty look imo. fairly sure I've ID'd my particular stake in this on this thread at some point. hope Chris Brown has a fatal car crash ASAP.
― available for sporting events (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 17:51 (thirteen years ago)
oh don't get me wrong, me not wanting to talk shit about Rihanna's choices had absolutely no bearing on my desire to see Chris Brown's severed head splashed across the CNN.com front page

A$AP Fatal Car Crash
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 30 January 2013 17:54 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, aero, my opinion is an amalgam of yours and those previous. Rihanna is ultimately responsible for her own fate, but it really is terrible that the path she's chosen looks an awful lot like domestic abuse advocacy. Also, I'm hoping CB has some kinda nonfatal-yet-disfiguring freak fishing accident. Although, realistically, his temper is probably just going to get him murdered.

think we have to try to understand that rihanna leads a p much surreal life utterly devoid of perspective
she is young and surrounded and indeed profiting from the overdriven fuck the haters swag swag 24/7 of the age so how is she not going to totally susceptible to bs rock n roll turbulent romanticism
nothing in her existence is set up for a nice caring chap, and nor is it likely to be anytime soon
― r|t|c, Wednesday, 30 January 2013 20:48 (thirteen years ago)
but lex otm re label vultures and the like
in truth i kinda think less of terius in particular, maybe i'm just being ridiculous but idk. he has this great gift of inhabiting the person he writes for but apparently it's just coldly delivered from an unfeeling place - 'nobody's business', none of his either

rtc otm about rihanna's weird bubble lifestyle but it's also important to remember that the shit she's saying is no different to the shit millions of domestic violence victims have said as they've gone back to their abusers. the collective tut-tutting about how she's a role model and won't she think of her fans is the same as "won't you think of your children" writ large. i'm not saying that the people around her, or the people around all those other victims, shouldn't be saying that, but we have to realise that the pattern of cases like this is such that the emotional abuse is so great that it doesn't work.
it's important to focus less on the individuals in this and more on the system that perpetuates situations like this: the industry's continued support of chris brown, of course, but in a wider sense attitudes to domestic abuse that either fail to take it seriously (see: the victim-blaming that began the minute the case came to light) or fail to understand the intricacies of it. rihanna ditching chris brown isn't going to solve domestic violence.

― christmas candy bar (al leong), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
it would be hilarious if chris brown went to jail BUT on principle people shouldn't be getting locked up for skirting on community service the first time around
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
Suuuuuuure he's going to jail.

this dude is never going to jail come on now
― Welcome to my world of proses (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:08 (thirteen years ago)
i feel like this goes a little beyond skirting, it's like a weird conspiracy to dupe the court. not sure he'll go to jail though.
― christmas candy bar (al leong), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:09 (thirteen years ago)
how much of an asshole do you have to be to shirk yr fucking community service for **felony assault** against your **girlfriend**, WHO YOU ARE STILL INVOLVED WITH. It's not like he had unpaid traffic fines or some shit. I mean, what the everloving fuck. ASSHOLE. PRIZE-WINNING fucking asshole.

feel like the amount of fudging on community service numbers must be billionsof hrs in toto. grossest detail in that story (if i'm reading it right) is collusion by his family
xps

― Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:15 (thirteen years ago)
Him going to jail (which he won't) for fudging community service rather than, you know, assaulting people would be some Al Capone shit.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:15 (thirteen years ago)
someone's family is lying in order to help that person to get off? THE HORROR
― d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 6 February 2013 21:15 (thirteen years ago)
his family must be pretty shitty, based on this and other evidence, so it may be a slight horror. plus i mean it's just community service, he already 'got off' pretty easy it seems.
