Maybe a couple of others I can't remember. Can't see me ever being more than an occasional metal listener but I'm enjoying working my way through and I'll no doubt find a few things that'll merit repeat listening.

Were the Harvey Milk vocals too much for you?

Though I think they fit the music.

This is really similar to my short list of stuff I've heard, also. You owe it to yourself to check out the Melvins album and also the Nachtmystium, both are great and pretty accessible and interesting for us "occasional" metal listeners.

second to recommendableness of nachtmystium to non-super-metal folks. esp anyone with like for epic, vaguely psych-proggy rock musics

lots of psych

At high volumes it's a kind of druggy, disoriented psych that for some reason works REALLY well with what they're doing on this record.

I really like the vocals on it

Portishead would've got plenty of votes too if it had been in(I drew the line at allowing thm nominated though as I know some people would vote for it and nothing else.) Geoff barrow loves his doom/psych/stoner/drone and has a record label devoted to it! I know a lot of metal folks into them. Some metalheads are open minded you know.
Infact most of the aphex twin and squarepusher fans I know are metalheads.

I only heard a bit of 'Worship Me Or Die' or whatever that Marnie album is called, but the bit I heard could have reasonably been deemed Van Halen dickwaving if you didn't know who was waving it, so it's legit imo

If Stern is in the running for best metal something-or-other then yeah, Aphex Twin for best ELP impressionist. I mean, they both use synths, so clearly...

loooooooool @ Herman's enthusiasm on the other thread. If only people did that with every album, I'd have an actual idea of what half those records are. Personally, I get the Earth disc, it's nice and all, but there just seems... I dunno, something lacking. I think i'll go back to it but as 'nice' is all i can come up with, I think i'll only be going back because i can't actually afford to go buy lots of records.

The one Marnie Stern thing I heard made her sound like a Sylvia Juncosa for the 00's.

I will. It's just remarkable I am semi regularly listening to any metal, and bookmarked rolling metal (although i have no idea what people are talking about - i guess it'll take a while to sink in) considering I'd written the entire genre. :)

eh, i listen to a lot of metal and i dont normally really know whats going on on rolling metal either (i think a lot of this has to do w/most of you being hooked up with critic streams and promo stuff, tbh)

yeah, rolling metal is mostly useless for me, cuz it seems all to take place in shorthand, as an ongoing convo between a bunch of people who all get and listen to basically every metal album in the universe. so it's a constant stream of:
