This Metz album seems okay, but if I'm in the mood for something like this I'll just play Hot Snakes.

it doesn't have the same lustre or immediacy as JL, or DLJ for that matter, perhaps because it's plying in a second-hand kind of way for the same effect so many years down the track.

metz record holds up fairly well; theres always a place for one or two records like this a year

I like the riff in "Knife in the Water" like whoa. But I agree that this is largely not a patch on what it's copying.

Almost impossible to imagine an improvement on Jesus Lizard type stuff these days, that's the problem.

Maybe in 20 years...

wow, listening to Knife in the Water now, that riff is 100% Drive Like Jehu. don't know why i didn't pick up on that before.

This Metz album is fun!

enjoying Metz, but the production is a bit odd. Needs a bit more bottom end IMO, but then again I'm probably saying that because I'm used to these kind of records being produced in an Albini style.

they're great live, too. imagine the album just 100x louder

i'm annoyed because i have been SO INTO that track for the past month, one of the best discoveries of the rap EOY lists for me, just in awe of how he lands his syllables and his obvious love of words but how he never loses the rush of energy, and then, ugh

That was one of the comparisons that popped into my head when I tried listening to some Vatican Shadow. I've tried really hard, but never found any Muslimgauze I've liked at all.

4-song EPs should not be eligible for album polls

and 4-song EPs with 2 completely inessential songs should not be voted for in album polls, regardless of whether "aaliyah" is the best track ever or not

4 normal length songs, that is, it's not like this is a suite of 4 epics

the whole thing is like quarter of an hour long

I'm all for EPs being eligible, because if not here then where?

There's plenty of great Muslimgauze, the problem is about 90% of it is redundant, so after 3 albums one wonders why bother.

I'm in favor of EPs in the album poll. I don't think this one really is a strong, long, or coherent enough collection to merit a vote.

i didn't object to EPs being eligible because some "EPs" are basically album-length, and some 6/7-track EPs feel as substantial as a mini-album (like the bigbang one, i presume), but i thought people would regulate it themselves to stop it being ridiculous. COME ON, 4 songs and 15 minutes doesn't belong in an albums poll.
