i kind of like that story

Author ~ Coach ~ Goddess (s1ocki), Saturday, 12 January 2013 19:02 (eleven years ago) link

that felt less like 'critic makes judgment, changes their mind' than 'journalist interviews artist and excitedly promotes their upcoming work, which ends up not fulfilling potential,' which is a bit different than the theme they were going for

Fork Fest 2013 headliners are insaaaaane!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 1 February 2013 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

R. Kelly, Bjork, and Belle & Sebastian.

R. Kelly!

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 1 February 2013 16:49 (eleven years ago) link

why is belle and sebastian headlining in 2013 is my immediate reaction

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 February 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago) link

Because it is 2013 and the fest couldn't get them in years past, closer to their popular peak?

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 1 February 2013 16:52 (eleven years ago) link

I know where I'll be this summer, what a great set of headliners after a crap list in 2012.

skip, Friday, 1 February 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

i could see belle & sebastian being a big deal for kids that were too young to see them at the height of their career

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:19 (eleven years ago) link

that is profoundly depressing

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

Can't wait for the big collab from the headliners, "Like Dylan Trapped In The Closet (It's Oh So Quiet)."

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

Bjork singing "Trapped in the Closet" may be the only context in which I would be entertained by "Trapped in the Closet"

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

belle & sebastian is a pretty good legacy act

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

I get that logically, I just super hate them

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

I thought everyone in Belle & Sebastian died

:C (crüt), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

maybe that was just a dream

:C (crüt), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

you're thinking of their infamous stand-up set

Ima R.A.E.D. (DJP), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

gonna make big bucks by smuggling in no-doz and jolt and selling them right before the B&S set

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:50 (eleven years ago) link

(because they are a snooze)

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 February 2013 17:50 (eleven years ago) link

wtf jordan defending belle and sebastian

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:06 (eleven years ago) link

consistently worst taste in music on ILM

Mordy, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:08 (eleven years ago) link

i think j0rd was just saying the booking was smart, in terms of the festival

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:12 (eleven years ago) link

hmmm, one of the more popular indie bands of the last 20 years headlining one of the more popular indie festivals?

tylerw, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:14 (eleven years ago) link

yeah obv you'd have to be totally clueless to things like "indie rock" and "the internet" if you think that's a bad booking from a business standpoint

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

thats some real "Who's Bonny Bear" shit from n/a

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:20 (eleven years ago) link

it was less "why now" and more "that band sucks"

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

sinister development

buzza, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

i mean yeah i think belle & sebastian is a solid band too, but they're a much better headliner from an objective standpoint than some of the bands that were on the bill last year

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

i mean even if you don't think they are straight fire beautiful song you have to admit their place in the bookish fancypants UK indie canon

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:47 (eleven years ago) link

no one has argued that this is a bad business decision! everyone's just saying they're shitty!

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

the friday night headliner last year was feist, the worst act out of r. kelly/belle & sebastian/bjork is >>>>>>>>> feist from both a business and quality perspective (imo)

d'eejban (J0rdan S.), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

xpost -- Quite true, that.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

Feist > Belle and Sebastian; that shit is str8 garbage

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 1 February 2013 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

you know, i'm a mild feist fan i guess, but my wife loves her, anyway i got good tickets and took her as a surprise...and i have to say, feist was probably the artists that most exceeded my expectations as a live act....it was pretty rocking, and her band and arrangements were great, she played a lot of fingerstyle electric on a les paul jr that was cool.

this was a really nice small amphitheater though, she seems more suited to a venue like that

downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

idk to me they feel like they're from a different era. nothing wrong w/that necessarily but it's like when there's a metalfest and the headliner is Testament I'm like, fuck yeah I rep for Testament but that's past-master stuff not Where It's At Now y'know? at any rate if anybody needs me I will be marshalling all forces to try to persuade or compel R to play U Saved Me from beginning to end as his entire set

available for sporting events (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Friday, 1 February 2013 18:52 (eleven years ago) link

has anyone ever done a "major headliners are only allowed to play the other headliners' songs" concert?
